Sushmita's Love life Rocking again!

For those who are still wondering about the status of Sushmita's enormously tranquil and happy love life, here's news.
Though they may not flaunt it like some of our more filmy high-profile partners in filmdom, the stunning Sen and the media-shy Menon remain blissfully compatible. To prove it , the actress and the ad-maker shot for a posh ad last week.
Laughs Ms Sen, "It was a sort of coming home for me. Two-and-a-half years ago I had met Manav when he shot a jewellery ad with me . And now here I was, back shooting with him for an ad for home furnishings (Carmichael House). Life has come a full and fascinating circle for me."
Proudly she talks about Manav's creative growth. "I had a long gap between my first and second ad with him. So I've the perceptive advantage of seeing him evolve. Believe me , the growth graph is tremendous. I'm very proud of him. And yes , there's a very adept feature-film maker lurking in there."
If all goes well, Manav Menon would finally go the Rakeysh Mehra way梖rom directing ad to directing a feature. No bumper prizes for guessing who would star in Mr Menon's feature film.

Don't pit Mallika against me & Ash |
Having conquered the global audience with her brave stint on Big Brother Shilpa Shetty is all set to star in an Indian musical on the lines of Bollywood Dreams, that Andrew Llloyd Webber-A.R Rahman musical which changed the destiny of pop-Bollywood culture globally.
Reveals Shilpa, "I'm going to be in an Indian musical on the lines of Bollywood Dreams. Though it will be 'Bollywood' in spirit it will be completely catering to Western sensibilities.
It's a hugely ambitious musical, and I'm very excited. I always wanted to do something like Moulin Rouge or Chicago. This is my chance,"
Farhat Hussein who organizes the big Bollywood concerts in Britain, is going to produce the musical.
"Farhat has very big ambitions for the musical. And if it all goes well it will be the biggest staged extravaganza ever featuring someone from the Mumbai film industry. My schedules are being worked out. But I plan to do it for three months in England, and maybe then take it down to the US and Australia.
Bollywood is so 'in' right now. Post Big Brother, this entire ethnic culture has created such an intrigue all over the world. And Bollywood Dreams did so well so many years ago. The appetite for Bollywood in the West has only increased."
On one end Shilpa is acquiring the reputation of being a spokesperson for racial discrimination and other global issues. On the other end her role as a glamour icon grows.
"Oh, there are numerous projects on the anvil, including a film in British and Indian film from a very reputed company. But that Bill Bannerman film never came to me. And I doubt it went to Ash either. People just presumed we got the offers because maybe we're the names that immediately come to mind.
I'm very happy for Mallika, and I feel she got the role because she suited and deserved it. Please don't make it seem as if she was pitted against us.
As for me, there's the question of whether I'd want to do such a role or not. There're certain compromises I'd never make. I've never made them, so why should I do so now?
So whether it's Hollywood or British films, they've to fit into my scheme of morality. It's very easy for me to sign lucrative deals out here. But I want to make money on my own terms."
Shilpa was in India last week. She attended the Liz-Hurley-Arun Nayar marriage. "When I came back here to London I was horrified when a Reuter journalist asked me if Liz Hurley tried to hitch me up with Imran Khan.
It's such a frivolous question. I mean, just because Imran is Jemima's ex and Liz is Hugh's ex, does it mean we'll come together? Sounds weird, doesn't it?"
Shilpa will be traveling back from London three times in the next month to finish shooting for Anurag Basu's Metro.
"I couldn't finish the film because there were too many combination scenes with Kangana, Shiney Ahuja and Konkona. Trust me, I'm not responsible for the delay. I'm very very proud of Metro. It's turned out very well."
Right now Shilpa is incredibly excited about the Bollywood musical. "After Big Brother I was constantly asked about which films and endorsements I was doing.
Those are fine. But I was looking at expanding my horizon, going to another level. This musical gives me a chance of doing something I always wanted to do."

Kareena Kapoor's Patiala Peg |
"It looks like my days of chilling out are numbered. Now it's work work work for the rest of the year," sighs Kareena as she spends some (more) quality time with Shahid.
The two will be together for a long schedule of Imtiaz Ali's film which begins on April 1.
Says Kareena, "We'll be shooting in Pataiala. I've never visited that city before. Also I get to play this really loud Punjabi woman, which I haven't done before. Shahid plays a quiet character. Come to think of it, I've been awfully quiet in my recent films like Aitraaz and Omkara. About time I came out of the shell."
Kareena also gets to go blissfully rustic in Mani Rathnam's Lajjo. Considering everyone is commenting on how svelte chic and urbane she looked on Koffee With Karan wouldn't the rustic act be a little hard to carry out?
"Not at all! That's where the talent comes in," she ripostes "In fact in the Yashraj film that comes between Imtiaz Ali and Mani Rathnam's films, I play an extremely glamorous woman. So it'll balance itself out."
Kareena brought in Shahid's 25th birthday in Goa instead of the foreign spot that they intended to visit for the occasion.
"We had no time," explain Kareena. "I had to fly back to Mumbai to collect my Filmfare award匢 keep bumping into my Omkara director Vishal Bhardwaj at all these awards functions. I wish he's sign me for my next."

Lisa Ray-Sheetal Seth play lesbians |
It looks like alternate sexuality is here to stay. After a spate of coming-out-of-closet films like Brokeback Mountain and Kinsey, it's author Shamim Sharif's turn.
It's a film based on her own autobiographical book. Shamim has just finished shooting I Can't Think Straight in London. In this autographical story Lisa Ray and US-born Sheetal Sheth play lovers.
The film has been shot entirely in London and Oxford.
Interestingly Ray who plays the rather unconventional role in Shamim's film, has just beeen seen wowing the world and its poor cousin India in Deepa Mehta's irradiant Water.
Though Deepa is tight-lipped about her prot間閑 foray into another kind of cinema the director does wonder what Lisa (who was chosen for Water after going through a short list that included Tabu and Kareena Kapoor) is up to.
"I've no idea what Lisa is doing with her career," says Deepa. "I know she's very very much in demand after Water. Beyond that I've no comment to make on her career."
Lisa who started her career in Bollywood with Vikram Bhatt's Kasoor strangely, chooses not to talk about her lesbian project.
Aseem Bajaj (who shot Pritish Nandy Communications' Chameli) served as the DOP in the film.
In a replication of TV star Iqbal Khan's visa blues Aseem says, "It was touch and go when some of the crew from India were denied visas. I had to go alone and get my assistants from London. But once there it was smooth-sailing all the way.
We were supposed to take nearly forty days to shoot. But we completed in just thirty-two days. I won't say the film is going to be controversial. Not in this day and age, Shamim has handled the theme with great delicacy."
Aseem returns to London to shoot Shamim Sharif's next film called The Reader, a scandalous yet tender love story just after World War 2 about a blind teacher in Oxford and her student.

Kareena & Shahid hurt Salman's ego

The Shahid-Kareena Kapoor starrer Milenge Milenge directed by Satish Kaushik has been in the making for nearly two years.
So what gives?
Apparently Boney Kapoor's lucky mascot Salman Khan who bailed the distressed producer out by doing an extended guest appearance in No Entry, is in an indirect way, responsible for the film's delay.
Salman was in fact supposed to do an extended 12-day cameo guest appearance in Milenge Milenge, not just because of his rapport with Boney but also for Satish Kaushik with whom Salman collaborated over the memorable Tere Naam.
Even the dates on which Salman was supposed to shoot for Boney's film had been roughly worked out.
However when Salman returned from the Rock Stars concerts with Shahid and Kareena he flatly refused to give the dates and politely told Boney he won't be doing it.
What happened?
Boney has no explanation to offer. "I've no clue why Salman decided he didn't want to do Milenge Milenge any longer. I needed him for a very important cameo and he had happily agreed to do it after the world concerts. When he returned from the concerts he said he won't do it. I was baffled. But I didn't probe.
I love and respect Salman too much to question him. I remember how warm-hearted he was during No Entry. He was, and will remain, one person who will always be there for me even at 2 in the morning if I need help |

'Ash & I will meet the sex workers!' |
Sushmita's impending appointment with Hollywood actress Ashley Judd has her excited like seldom before.
"What makes Ashley's trip to India so special is not only the fact that she cares so deeply for the AIDS cause. It's also because she's coming all the way to our country to raise funds for this cause. And as far as I'm concerned that's enough reason for India to play host to Ashley.
I feel she's my guest and I'm going to do my best to make her feel at home," says Sushmita before Ashley Judd comes to Mumbai to join hands with Sush.
Ashley has gone on record to say she's keen on to meet Sush.
"Has she?" Sush is delighted. "I read up a whole lot on her on the net. And I must say I'm very very impressed by her work. It's not just what she's done on screen, but what she has done off screen that makes her so important. It's the kind of career model I'm trying to follow. "
On 14 April Sush and Ashley leave early in the morning for the Kamathipura red-light area of Mumbai to spend the whole day with sex workers.
Says Sush, "I'll be speaking to the sex workers in the language that's prevalent among them, Bengali. I'm really looking forward to my day with Ashley and with these brave women who perhaps need just that bit of information to make their lives healthier and safer."
The day with the sex workers will be followed by a 90-minute interview for the National Geographic. "Then on the 17 March Ashley and I will be attending a very exclusive dinner to raise charity funds for the cause," says Sushmita who says she loves public events.
"Even the dance performances at functions. Because I dance basically for myself. If the audiences enjoy it, good for them."

Mallika leaves her Bikinis for Burqa! | First, it was Jackie Chan in Myth, and now it is Bill Bannerman, Hollywood stalwart Clint Eastwood's right-hand man. What's with Mallika Sherawat impressing foreign directors? Our very own oomph girl Mallika Sherawat now has signed for a woman-centric Hollywood film "Unveiled" to be directed by Bannerman.
"It's a fantastic story - part thriller, part psychological drama, part film noir... It was so fast paced and exciting and so well written, I couldn't put it down for a second," said Mallika.
"And the icing on the cake was that it's a story from the point of view of a woman -- a woman who has relationships with three men from different continents, and she goes from an ultra-traditional Muslim environment to an ultra-liberal Western one. This is a script I could never say no to," she added.
Bannerman is Clint Eastwood's assistant director and has been honoured by the Director's Guild of America as the best assistant director for "Unforgiven", the film, which went on to win Oscar awards for best director and best film.
About casting the Indian actress, Bannerman said: "I was impressed by Mallika's acting prowess in 'Murder' and knew by instinct that she will be able to do justice to the role perfectly."
Praising the actress further Bannerman said he was taken aback by her level of professionalism and was surprised to find out that she doesn't have a larger body of work and that Bollywood had not tapped the talent as yet.
Bannerman has a phenomenal resume, which includes four films with Clint Eastwood -- "Unforgiven", "Bridges of Madison County", "A Perfect World" and "Absolute Power".
He has also worked as the development executive for "Payback", "Mission Impossible", and "Star Trek: First Contact" and was the executive producer for "The Grudge 2" and "Walking Tall".
Bannerman is directing the feature film with his mentor Eastwood's blessing.
Talking about the film, Bannerman said: "'Unveiled' is a film about a Muslim woman who has two husbands and a lover. It is a twisted film noir, sexy thriller and dark drama. It is the first Hollywood film to feature a female Muslim protagonist.
Describing the character, to be played by Mallika, he said: "Behind the dark burqa (veil), there lies a sexy, manipulative victim, who's dangerous as well as in grave danger."
Many actresses were considered for the role, before zeroing in on Mallika, that is.
Sources reveal, "Hillary Swank and Penelope Cruz had shown interest, but they wanted the actress to be a South Asian or from the Middle East so that she could portray the character of a Muslim woman from the Middle East, and lend a degree of authenticity in terms of accent, body language, knowledge of customs, etc."
Mallika managed to beat actresses Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty to it.
"Aishwarya Rai and Shilpa Shetty were strong contenders. But speculations are rife that Aishwarya Rai had date problems and her impending marriage plans would have been a possible hindrance.
As for Shilpa Shetty, she only has a big name. In reality, she still hasn't signed anything worthwhile so far," says our source.

Abhishek is a hard man to please!

Belying the over-enthusiastic reports of a marriage date for Abhishek and Aishwarya, the Big B says, "We still haven't got a date. The two of them are so busy, we haven't been able to sit down and work it out with the kids and their parents.
Now Abhishek's schedule (for Drona) is postponed. So I'm hoping we'd be able to sit down and finally work out a date. But Aishwarya is in Karjat shooting, Jaya has gone off to parliament. Everyone is impatient. So are Aishwarya and Abhishek."
Though the two families would like it to be an intimate affair, there's obviously going to be a large wedding.
"Let's see. I think far too much is being made this affair. It's just another wedding."
It was a very moving moment when the Big B went up to the stage at the Filmfare awards to give his wife the lifetime achievement. "I didn't know I had to give a speech. So whatever I said came from the heart. I needed to recollect a lifetime with Jaya to give her the trophy for lifetime achievement.
That evening brought out a lot of emotions. My daughter Shweta who's a really tough girl was moved to tears. Aishwarya was crying. For Jaya to acknowledge us and Aishwarya's family厀as wonderful.
The day Abhishek announced Aishwarya was the girl he was going to marry, she became part of our family. I look on Aishwarya as a daughter."
As for the Big B not getting a Filmfare award this year, "I didn't deserve one this year. I thought Abhishek was far more award-worthy in KANK. I very happily and proudly accept that."
On stage Jaya had thanked her husband for giving her a home.
Says AB, "That was a manifestation of a larger socio-cultural philosophy. In our society a woman is uprooted from her paternal home after marriage and put through this whole process of re-acclimatization in what's known as a paraya ghar.
A lot of us don't understand how painful this uprooting process is for a woman. That evening Jaya was acknowledging that whole process."
For a special directors' preview of Nishabd on Wednesday night, Abhishek Bachchan was moved to tears.
Says the Big B, "I called all my directors to see Nishabd on Wednesday. Ravi Chopra who's very hard director to please was deeply moved. People are surprised. They came expecting something else.
Abhishek had only some rushes earlier on. He had some apprehensions about Nishabd. He doesn't show his emotions that easily. He was visibly moved. He feels my performance in Nishabd is better than Black.
Abhishek made an interesting observation. He said I had huge props in Black. In Nishabd I perform without props. Again Abhishek is a hard customer to please."
The Big B laughs, "People had come in with all sorts of apprehensions. Some women almost thought they'd be confronted by pornography. But men and women alike were bowled over by the film's sensitivity. Nobody expects Nishabd from Ram Gopal Varma. They've seen him do violent gangster films.
To see this sensitive side of him |

Kareena trashes Ash, Bips & John! | The fresh season of Koffee with Karan is turning out to be too hot to handle for some Bollywood stars.
After Sanjay Leela Bhansali commented on Kunal Kohli on the show, Priyanka was caught in embarrassment when K Jo showed a clip where Kareena completely denied being friends with the lady which was in fact totally opposite of what Priyanka had stated.
Then came a moment of truth from Mallika Sherawat who boasted how she could have done Kareena's item song Yeh mera dil better in Don .
But the best was just around the corner with this week featuring Kareena Kapoor and her beau Shahid.
On the show Bebo made her dislike of John evident and proclaimed that he was 'expressionless'. Always the one to please his girlfriend, boyfriend Shahid abandoned his diplomatic stance, and on being asked about the one leading man Kareena would never work with, promptly said, 'John Abraham'.
Kareena and Bipasha's tiff began when the two first worked together in the film Ajnabee. The two were shooting in Switzerland for the film and Bips decided to borrow Kareena's clothes stylist. However Bips did not ask Kareena whether she could borrow her costume designer and this is what got Kareena miffed.
However, John refuses to comment on the issue. All he says is that Kareena is a 'sweet girl'.
However Bips and John were not the only ones who Kareena took digs at,when she was asked to name one celebrity who had recently made a fashion faux pas, she said "I think Aishwarya as she recently wore turquoise coloured boots to an event, which in my opinion is a fashion faux pas."
Kareena also stated that she feels that she could have done Ash's role in Dhoom 2 better.Well considering that older sis Karisma was on the show,it is no surprise that Kareena took a potshot at Ash, Abhishek Bachchan's current fiance.
Nonetheless it seems like the three Kapoors,Kareena,Karisma and Shahid had a great time on the show with each other and Karan. Karan Johar seems especially happy with the rising TRP's of his chat show as he gets to know all the inside gossip about bollywood's biggest celebs.

I need a man to get married:Shilpa | One of Shilpa's happiest memories from Big Brother is her friendship with Jermaine Jackson.
"And guess what?" she squeals in delight. "Michael Jackson saw us on Big Brother. I told Jermaine to go home and just let me hear his voice."
Back home Shilpa is over-joyed to meet up with her sister. "Shamita was shooting in Hyderbad. I borrowed her from her co-star Madhavan. I hadn't spent any time with my sister in almost two months!"
Shilpa is very hurt by attempts to attack her family in Indian and British press. "Please don't run down my family. They accused us of not paying workers at our factory. My father has worked so hard to keep that factory going. The workers love him. I don't care what they write about me. But why target my family? My father is 67. Spare him.
My parents have gone through so much on my account. They were worried while I was doing Big Brother. I had the choice of getting out. And I was tempted to do so for my family's sake. But I didn't want to be a loser. Honestly it wasn't easy in there.
And when people out here see the full footage it'll anger them. What kept me going was the belief that I'd be out of there in three weeks. But there were fun moments "
As for Shamita's unbecoming picture appearing in a tabloid, Shilpa sighs, "Everyone makes mistakes. Publishing her picture was a very mean thing to do. The difference between us and the West is that we've some ingrained values and we draw a line of decency in public. No point in aping the West. We should never lose our intrinsic values."
Comparisons with Rakhi Sawant who appeared on Big Boss were also hurtful. "Sorry, but with due respects, Big Brother is a hundred notches higher than Bigg Boss.
Honestly Big Brother this time was one of the most decent seasons. I was very clear that I was going to do nothing indecent. It's the non-celebrity Big Brother that's pretty obnoxious. There was no nudity or anything obnoxious in my show."
A couple of Bollywood actresses came forward to claim they had been offered Big Brother. "It was their choice if they didn't do it. I took up Big Brother because they paid me my money and stuck to the clauses in our contact. In a way I feel television is my true calling. Of course I'm known as a film actress. And I'm proud of that label."
"I never knew it would become so big. They were writing all kinds of things about me. If I wasn't Shilpa Shetty I'd actually believe what's written about. They're now trying to dig up supposedly unsavoury details about me.
Out there they're so used to celebrities who are abnormal and dysfunctional. They're incredulous that I'm so normal. I'm very happy wuth the way things are going. The media over there works very differently from the way it's over here. "
Shilpa has been getting feedback from places as far-flung as Barbados and Romania. "Yes it was the racism issue that has made it so big. People in India wouldn't understand the nerves that my situation at Big Brother touched among Asians abroad who've been through discrimination."
According to the Western press not since Gandhiji has the third-world risen in one voice to protest against racial discrimination as they did for Shilpa. "Asians from India and Pakistan and Bangladesh rose up to protest against my discrimination. That's been my biggest achievement.
People at home have been very welcoming. All I'm requesting is, please don't write irresponsibly about me. If I don't get respect at home how can I get it abroad? Don't write well about me. But please don't run down my parents."
Marital dreams? "I want to settle down. But I need a man first. I'm sure God has great plans in that department too. Just look at what He planned for me this year!"

Shahid & Kareena haven't lost hope! | Real-life couple Kareena-Shahid have not exactly had a dream run on celluloid. They came a cropper in Fida, Chup Chup Ke and 36 China Town. They also have an unreleased film, Boney Kapoor's Milenge Milenge to their discredit.
But now in a film to be directed by Imtiaz Ali who made the quirky Socha Na Tha with Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia two years ago Shahid and Kareena will be seen "in a totally different light".
Says the director, "The Shahid-Kareena film will be about a chance meeting between two strangers in transit, extending into a charming North Indian adventure, and the drastically different effect the meeting has on the two protagonists."
After a year-long sabbatical Shahid has resumed his career with Aziz Mirza's romantic musical co-starring Vidya Balan. However, Imtiaz Ali's film will be the first to go on the floors. Ali starts shooting in March.
Says our source, "Before those two biggies Kareena had a choice between Ajay Devgan's comedy, Sunday, directed by Rohit Shetty and Imtiaz Ali's romantic comedy. She chose the latter."

A few days before the Filmistan incident, Shahid was shooting a stunt for the film in Dubai, where he had to pedal a BMX bike down the face of a 16-floor building over a long cloth that stretched to the ground.
Midway through the shooting, the cloth snapped from its clasps leaving Shahid in mid-air., Kareena was overtly worried when this happened and Ahmed promised her that Shahid was in safe hands thereafter. Later, another incident happened at Filmistan .
Ahmed explains, 揑t was a song sequence. There were 16 mounted pulleys and 120 men pulling up many dancers, including Shahid.
Never before in the history of Indian cinema has such a dangerous and exciting dance sequence been picturised. While shooting, the left wire of Shahid抯 pulley suddenly snapped. Luckily, he was not dreaming.
He is very active and agile and immediately held on to the right wire of the pulley to balance himself. |

Arshad gets director arrested |
Twenty-four hours after it happened, and Arshad still cannot forget the ashen look on director Vivek Agnihotri's face after the terrifying April Fool's prank that was pulled on the director during the shooting of Goal.
Arshad well- ensconced in his cosy apartment in London narrates the incident amidst bouts of guffaws. "I wanted our April Fool's in London to be a memorable experience. So I hired two actors to play cops and told them my simple but scary plan to shake up our director Vivek.
All they had to do was go up to him during shooting and tell him that an Afghani actress Nadia in our unit has been booked and arrested for possession of drugs and narcotics."
Arshad stops to catch his breath. "At the appointed time on Sunday, the two cops played their roles to perfection.
They walked up to the unsuspecting Vivek and announced, 'Sir we've to take you in for questioning.' All of us in unit桱ohn, Bipasha, Boman included梬ere playing along giving the best performances of our lives.
Poor Vivek. He was #ting bricks. He looked around helplessly. We all shrugged and acted helpless. Vivek could've died there and then if we hadn't burst out laughing eventually when he was actually being led away."
April Fool's Day also brought Arshad another popular award in Malaysia for best supporting actor in Lage Raho.Munnabhai. Arshad chuckles, this time with less amusement.
"This is my first round of awards, and I'm not at any of them to receive the trophy. This is God's way of letting me know that he gives with one hand and also takes away with the other. Anyway, can't complain since I'm having the time of my life here."
