'The Blue Umbrella' brochure in children story book format
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 09, 2006]
Remember your school days when you used to read colorful'n'glossy story books? The specialty of these books lied in the fact that they alternatively had simple and easy to understand text on one page and beautiful images on the other.
Brochure of 'The Blue Umbrella' too has been designed as per the same format as it comes across as a cool children's book which would be lapped up even by the adults. The book contains synopsis of the film along with information about the cast and the crew along with some exclusive pictures.
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, 'The Blue Umbrella' is based on a novella by Ruskin Bond and has been recently acquired by UTV Motion Pictures to be presented under the banner of UTV Classic.
Starring young Shreya Sharma and Pankaj Kapur in principal roles, 'The Blue Umbrella' is a sweet'n'simple story that releases on 5th January. |

Big B's 'Kehta Hai Baabul' premiered
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 09, 2006]
Amitabh Bachchan's version of the title song 'Kehta Hai Baabul' from the film 'Baabul' has been premiered.....and in style.
Coinciding with the release of the film, the song has been showcased on the small screen with a full length music video starring only one man - Amitabh Bachchan! No extras, no opulent sets, no props...just plain and simple Big B with great lighting (mostly black) and good camera angles that capture Big B's terrific emotions quite well as he narrates the relationship between a 'baabul' and his daughter.
It may be recalled that there was a lot of hue and cry when the album was released with only Jagjit Singh version of the song while Bachchan's version was missed out. Now with a music video of the song arriving on the music channels, one awaits the music company to incorporate this beautiful number written by Sameer and put to music by Aadesh Srivastava in the next dispatch of album too! |

Arnab Chakraborthy: In Search of ?aam?
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 09, 2006]
? would like to maintain my originality,? says new singer on the block Arnab Chakraborty whose claim to fame are ?ada Raha? from ?hakee? and ?atra Qatra? from the film ?amily?. Arnab? first non-film music album ?aam? was recently launched by music directors Shantanu Moitra (He gave him the first break in the form of a jingle) and Ram Sampat (?hakee? and ?amily?).
? have tried to incorporate the different folk forms of Indian music in my debut album,? Arnab says. Having done a post graduate diploma in Sugam Sangeet from Mumbai Universty, Chakraborthy has already worked with renowned names like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Ram Sampath, Shantanu Moitra, Salim-Suleiman, Pritam, Raju Singh, Jatin-Lalit, Nikhil-Vinay and many others.
He is also excited about song he recorded with Sunidhi Chauhan and Sukhwinder Singh with music director Pritam for Meghna Gulzar? next film ?aat Pakki? for which Gulzar sahib has written the lyrics. It seems Arnab is determined to carve a ?aam? for himself in Bollywood. |

Promo Watch: I See You
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 09, 2006]
Arjun Rampal is a talented actor who is a great looker too. But his stint in Bollywood has met with limited success in spite of having the wherewithal to make it in the big league. His performance in films like ?akhen? and ?k Ajnabi? were appreciable. And he made his presence felt in a special appearance in Farhan Akhtar? ?on?. With ? See You? he turns a producer and hopefully he shall find his due place under the sun in an author backed role. The promos are slick, music seems fine but how different the presentation is remains to be seen.
Theatrical Trailer: Raj Jaiswal (Arjun Rampal) has his plans cut out. Yes, he plans to be a bachelor forever. He enjoys his life flirting around with the most beautiful girls around. Till he finds his fairytale love? But his Cindrella is an illusion with whom he dances on the street. His friends think he is going nuts but he is determined, ? am not imagining things,? he says defiantly. Sounds and seems interesting.
Subah Subah: ?ubah Subah? is a pop number wedded to London visuals with cool dude Arjun Rampal sauntering on the streets of happiness. The song seems interesting carrying a private album feel than being the regular Hindi film song. Rampal looks a hunk?.Can this be his defining moment?.
Aaj Raat Haalo Haalo: ?aj Raat Haalo Haalo? is a drum-n-bass number with a catchy hook line. It? a party number with loads of attitude, funky lighting, delirious babes, delicious dancing and Arjun Rampal making full use of this opportunity shows off his mean moves on the dance floor in style while his illusionary lover girl in white makes her presence felt?airies swish around in air while the number kicks on. Catchy fare?. |

Baabul Public Opinion is Positive
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 09, 2006]
Ravi Chopra? ?abul? has released amidst mixed reviews from the critics. While some have liked it, there are others who don? think too highly of the film. We at Indiaglitz did an exclusive Public Opinion video for you guys that you can watch today.
The film is about widow remarriage and is being liked by ladies and young girls for its noble social message. The men and young lads somehow don? think too highly of it. Comparisons with Chopra? ?aaghbaan? are inevitable. Generally people prefer ?aaghbaan? over ?abul?. But most of the people (More than 90%) are also of the opinion that ?abul? is a good movie too. Acting of Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee and Salman Khan is being appreciated by one and all. As for Aadesh Shrivastava? music, then the verdict is mixed too with most of the people liking it while a few finding it average. Mr Bachchan? composition ?ehta Hai Babul? comes for special appreciation.
While the critics have their own point of view, it seems ?abul? is finding its audience. The word of mouth will make it even better. Another box office victory of the year is all we can say. |

?? an international gypsy,? says M F Hussain
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 11, 2006]
?? an international gypsy,? said M F Hussain in an interview recently in context with the forced exile from India, his country for the last ninety one years. The world famous modern artiste has always been prone to controversies. But the recent ones where he painted Mother India as a nude earned him the wrath of the moralists. Prize money as huge as Rs 51 crore was put on his head. Even the government was forced to take action against him prompting Hussain to leave the country.
He has been shuttling between London and Dubai for some time now and is increasingly becoming edgy to get back to India. Hussain? fascination for Hindi films is well known. His obsession with Madhuri Dixit led to her acting in his first feature film as a director, ?ajagamini?. The movie failed at the box office but it was lauded for its intense poetic content. His next flirtation with silver screen ?eenaxi? starred Tabu and Kunal Kapoor (More famous for his ?ang De Basanti? act with Aamir Khan). It didn? do any magic on silver screen either but one of the songs ?itli?.? Sung by Sukhwinder Singh with music by A R Rehman was coloured by the palette of life.
Hussain had handpicked Shreyas Talpade after watching Nagesh Kukoonoor? ?qbal? for essaying himself in the film ?he Making of a Painter?. The film hasn? started yet. Hussain got back into limelight recently when he revealed that he had watched Sooraj Barjatya? ?ivaah? nine times and was in awe of the character Poonam (Amrita Rao) in the film as she portrayed true Indian woman? attributes. And this is not the last we?e heard from the famous artiste?here? more to follow |

Does Bipasha deserve GIFA best actress trophy?
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 11, 2006]
Bipasha Basu? sterling performance in ?orporate? was her best till date. No doubts about that. But can it match the superlative effort put in by Kajol in ?anah?? The answer lies in the question itself. Incidentally Bipasha was present during the recently concluded GIFA Awards in Kuala Lampur yesterday and the organizers found it befitting that the best actress award be given to her instead of say Kajol who was conspicuous by her absence. It? not the X Factor?ut the C Factor (Read Convenience?).
It seems GIFA awards were fraught with gaping bloopers. At many an occasion the trophies kept breaking away, Arbaz Khan and Minisha Lamba goofed up their lines in spite of prominent Tele Prompters and everybody present got some sort of award or the other (Katrina Kaif: Miss Beautiful Lips, SRK and Priyanka Chopra: Most searched stars on internet). And except for Abhishek and Salman? performance the fizz was missing in the show (SRK opted not to perform due to a torn ligament). Never mind the damp squib?heck out the award list anyway?

Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 11, 2006]
In an exclusive dekko, Mallika Sherawat's 'Mayya Mayya' was premiered on Saturday.
As expected, temperatures are bound to soar as the song is unleashed in a big way across music channels this week. The song lives up to the expectations that one has from Madame Sherawat as she sizzles, teases and gets your adrenaline soaring as she gyrates on screen.
This A.R.Rahman number with strong Middle East flavor was always meant to be the highlight of the album and hence it was expected that it would be making a late appearance when the film will be near its release.
With each of the songs showcased so far ['Tere Bina', 'Barso Re'] being hits and the album already on the top of the charts, 'Mayya Mayya' is poised to take the success stry of the album forward and keep the film in news before it arrives on Jan 12th.
It must be mentioned that this song set in a club/bar also features Abhishek Bachchan. Stay tuned! |

Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 11, 2006]
After completing 50 days at the box office, Shirish Kunder's 'Jaan-E-Mann' is all set to arrive on DVDs and VCDs.
Come 15th December and you can watch the film at the comfort of your living room. This family entertainer was always a safe bet for the home viewing and if not for the competition from 'Don', it could have fared much better at the box office.
This romantic light hearted entertainer starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta has some real fun moments that would make you weep and cry at the same time.
Melodious songs by Anu Malik are an added bonus, especially 'Humko Maaloom Hai', 'Ajnabi Shehar' and 'Sau Dard Hai.' Neat''n'nice presentation of the film ensures that it can be watched on a nice little Saturday evening family get together. |

Tanushree lives a ?isk? life
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 11, 2006]
Tanushree Dutta has been basking in the glory of being a glamour girl who doesn? mind revealing her steamier side as was evident in ?hocolate? and ?ashiq Banaya Aapne?. But it seems she is eager to shed that image with some level of performance in her roles too. If promos of ?hagam Bhag? and ?isk? are anything to go by, then she is determined to unleash her acting skills.
Tanushree had a fuming experience a few days ago when a website showed her name and photograph listed as a high profile escort. Well, that? the price one has to pay for one? stardom or item girl image. Let? see if she does a turnaround and emerge as an actress, something the way Bipasha Basu has done with ?orporate?. |

Why Mithoon scores over Pankaj in Anwar music?
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 12, 2006]
Mithoon, the young twenty something music composer is the best news for film music this year apart from Raghav Sachar of course. After the superlative show of brilliance in his maiden venture ?as Ek Pal? where one of the songs ?ere Bin? became humungously popular, Mithoon infinitely impressed with his second outing ?nwar?.
Both the songs composed by him, ?aula Mere? and ?aveda Zindagi? are a direct contrast to his western compositions in ?as Ek Pal?. The simplicity with which he has used the light Indian Classical flavour in both the songs is a direct contrast to the ornate classical arrangements of the other composer of the album Pankaj Awasthi. While ?aula Mere? and ?aveda Zindagi? are songs that one feels like listening to again and again, ?ilbar Mera?, ?o Maine Aas Lagayi? or ?ela? (all composed by Pankaj Awasthi) are songs that attempt more to show off the classical leanings of the composer rather than having a soul. Moreover, Pankaj Awasthi? morose singing makes most of his numbers unbearable too.
After listening to the album one wishes Mithoon had composed all the songs for ?nwar?. Hope he is the only composer in his future albums. |

Govinda, the actor or the politician?
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 12, 2006]
When you read the headline: ?ovinda, an actor or a politician?? What are your first thoughts? Well, it goes without saying that Govinda the actor is far superior to Govinda the failed politician. In his twenty year film career, Govinda has weathered the toughest storms and managed to claim a place for himself. On the top. In spite of the Khans, the Kumars and the Roshans of the world.
?warg?, ?atya?, ?ankhen?, ?hola Aur Shabnam?, ?ero No. 1?, ?oolie No. 1?, ?aajan Chale Sasural?, ?aseena Maan Jayegi?, ?eewana Mastana? and ?odi No. 1?Govinda has delivered hits at every juncture of his life. Till he hit the roadblock five years ago when his films stopped working at the Box Office and the producers stopped patronizing his brand of films. That? when Govinda decided to join politics. There was no method in this madness. For even though he trounced a heavyweight like Ram Naik in a Mumbai constituency, Govinda has cut a sorry figure as a leader in the last two years or so. He doesn? attend the Parliament, seldom speaks his mind, vanishes during the floods and is unavailable when tragedy strikes in the form of train blasts. The only notable act done by him is the stoppage of August Kranti Rajdhani train (coming from Delhi) at Borivali.
There was a point of time when the media made him as their favourite whipping boy with videos of his Dubai parties with the underworld being shown on national tv again-n-again. That eerie background score convicted him anyway. His family survived an untimely accident in Rajasthan while his secretary of many years died.
The resurrection of Govinda the actor started with help from a few friends in the film industry. Salman Khan offered him a film opposite himself (Partner) to be directed by David Dhawan. And then Suneil Shetty left a meaty part for him in Priyadarshan? ?hagam Bhag? opposite Akshay Kumar. Nikhil Advani? ?alaam-e-ishq? was like an icing on the cake for this fabulous actor. With ?hagam Bhag? and ?alaam-e-ishq? ready for release, Govinda the actor is back in the reckoning. And that frown has been taken over by that ready smile. `
So, now, do you wish Govinda to continue as an actor and a politician simultaniously. Or would you want Govinda to concentrate only on his acting?o let us know your opinion |

Salman, Warner Bros. and Rs 25 Crore deal?
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 12, 2006]
Salman Khan was the best thing about ?aabul? and ?aaneman? (his last two releases). He is looking like a dream, the humour is not forced any more and the manner in which he has dealt with children in both the films has been very endearing. During the recently concluded GIFA Awards, he sprung to organizer Sunil Shetty? aid when SRK expressed inability to perform by stretching his act to forty five minutes.
It seems to be a good phase for Salman both personally as well as professionally. A gaming portal recently hired him as their brand ambassador for big bucks and if sources are to be believed then Hollywood? big guns Warner Bros. are considering this Controversial Khan for their maiden Hindi film production. They are keen to sign a three film contract with Sallu worth Rs 25 crores.
Stay tuned to Indiaglitz for more on this news |

'Bas Ek Pal' music publicity back with a vigor
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 12, 2006]
In probably the first ever initiative of its kind, publicity of a film soundtrack has been resumed with a renewed vigor.
So what's special? Well, the film came and went a couple of months back but the music is still selling like hot cakes. And that has prompted the music company to devise a new sales strategy of the album and place it in the market once again.
We are talking about the film 'Bas Ek Pal', the music of which can be counted as one of the best ever for the current year.
While Mithoon composed songs like 'Tere Bin' and title song 'Bas Ek Pal' have become a rage over the months, what cannot be discounted is the fact that songs like 'Zindagi Hosh Mein', 'Ashq Bhi' and 'Dheemey Dheemey' that have been composed by Vivek Philip have been priceless gems too.
To promote the album further and flood the songs on music channels, new music videos for the film have been created while roping in singer K.K. to face the camera. No wonder the album continues to stay in the Top-5 of the charts even till date. Way to go! |

When Arshad disappeared at Kabul
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 12, 2006]
A journey to a forbidden land always has a hundred stories to tell. And Arshad Warsi is hardly a person who would keep an interesting story to himself.
Regarding his experience of shooting for 'Kabul Express', he recounts how the entire cast and crew was required to be stationed at the spots identified for them. Not someone who could be satisfied with a journey to just a location or two, he was soon bored of either being there on location or confined to a hotel. So one fine day, he just took a guard along with him and sneaked out of his hotel room to venture into a Kabul market.
His reason for doing that? He mainly wanted to check out the place since it was a one time experience of being in Kabul. He realized the fact that he may never return to this place again in his lifetime and hence it was his one and only chance to check out the marketplace, the gullies, the kind of things that were sold, and different eatables.
Recounting it as one of the most interesting times in his life, he concluded by saying that it was quite a high to be actually venturing out all on his own with just his director Kabir Khan knowing about his outing. |

Inder Kumar makes a comeback with 'Aryan'
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 12, 2006]
Coming Friday is going to be a defining moment for one man - Inder Kumar. That's because he makes a comeback on the big screen after a long hibernation.
His last notable release was 'Maseeha' [2002] which sunk without a trace. Before that he had his big chance with Mahesh Manjrekar's 'Hathyar' [2002] where he played a younger Sanjay Dutt. The film didn't work at the box office and Inder Kumar was out of the big league.
Meanwhile he also had his back troubles to fight since he was bed ridden for a long time. His main support during that time was Salman Khan who had actually tried a comeback for him in 'Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge' [2002] where he had Inder play the main villain. But subsequent failure of all these films meant that Inder was out of the reckoning.
All this may change on December 15th when his comeback film 'Aryan' releases. Pitted against Sohail Khan in the film, he plays a ruthless boxer for whom it is success that matters most, even if it means resorting to unethical and unlawful ways like taking illegal drugs. As per insiders, Inder has come up with a smashing performance in the film and his sequences in the ring with Sohail are utmost real and have to be seen to be believed. |
