Flores Suspends Villa As Che Crisis Deepens

Just two days after the row between Flores and Carboni over reinforcements, the Che camp was hit with another crisis after David Villa was suspended by Quique Sanchez Flores.

This time, it has to do with Flores suspending star striker David Villa for misbehaving during the training match.

It all started when the Spanish international made a couple of very hard challenges on a youth team defender marking him, much to the dismay of all around.

Flores was clearly unimpressed, and reprimanded Villa in front of onlooking supporters: "It is important to have the same attitude and intensity during the game [and not just against junior team-mates], and if we did that always, we would never lose."

The coach then asked the players to move the goals to a different part of the ground, but Villa chose to sulk rather than help his team-mates.

The forward was clearly in a bad mood, and as the game began, instead of passing the ball, he kicked it high and off the ground. Flores had had enough, and duly banished him to the dressing room.

However, Villa was not done, and threw his training vest on the the ground, and kicked another ball away before taking off. Villa's father, looking on, left five minutes later, and Flores himself left the ground soon after.

The forward did not face the press, and also cancelled an interview with a television station. Flores also refused to speak about the incident: "I do not have a version. Things happen.

When certain journalists insisted, the clearly frustrated coach snapped: "Have you not seen the training?"

It is understood that Flores had been frustrated by some lacklustre displays from his charges, with Valencia picking up just one point from their last two away games. Carboni's refusal to even consider bringing in players despite both left backs - Moretti and Del Horno - being out for a while, has done little to calm him down.

Draw Adds To Che Problems

A last minute equaliser denied Valencia a much-needed victory, leaving an exasperated Flores wondering what to do next.

Lax passing dogged Valencia's attacking play, spearheaded by a redeemed David Villa, recalled after Flores initially banished him after misbehaviour on the training ground. It was the mark of a coach who knows he needs every weapon in his arsenal to drag his team from their current confidence mire.

Urzaiz caused problems for the hosts early on and had an early clame for a penalty, while Igor Gabilondo went extremely close to giving the struggling Basques the lead.

Villa had a penalty appeal of his on dismissed as he and his team mates continued to be frustrated by their lack of punch up front. Bilbao were happy to sit back and hit on the break, but their plans went to pieces after Morientes stole in to give Los Che the lead.

The hosts began the second half solidly enough, but their inability to capitalie on the lead gave Los Leones increasing confidence in the final stages.

Joaquin was taken off  for Angulo after yet another unconvincing display, while Baraja made his return to the team after injury from the bench.

Valencia were finally made to pay in the very last minute of normal time, sending the visiting players and fans into raptures, and leaving Quique Flores with his head in his hands.

The former Real Madrid ace admitted earlier in the week that the team were in dire need of a confidence boosting 3 points this weekend and, coupled with well-documented in-fighting that has plagued the club recently, the young coach faces an uphill task to maintain control in the coming weeks.

Juve target Spanish ace
Monday 13 November, 2006

Juventus are eyeing a move for Valencia抯 David Villa and have offered the Spanish side £5.7m plus Marcelo Zalayeta for the player抯 services, according to reports in Italy.

Bianconeri sporting director Alessio Secco was reportedly in Spain in the past few days and met Amedeo Carboni, who confirmed that the Primera Liga side values the player at £17.8m.

The Old Lady allegedly offered Valencia a swap deal including striker Zalayeta plus cash as their return to Serie A becomes more and more certain as the weeks go by.

Villa, who is also a target for Inter, landed in Valencia in 2005 and scored an impressive 25 League goals last season, finishing one goal behind top scorer Samuel Eto'o of Barcelona.

The Spanish international had a row with Coach Quique Flores last week and has seemingly asked the club to leave, despite being contracted until 2013.

Meanwhile, Juventus are set to extend the contracts of Alessandro Del Piero and Pavel Nedved, which will include roles for after their playing career.

Rumours have suggested Del Piero may be given the Presidency of the Turin outfit, although this has not ended speculation that he may receive an offer to end his career in Japan.

Valencia consider Reina swoop

Valencia are closely monitoring Jose Reina's situation at Liverpool, according to reports in Spain.

The UEFA Champions League hopefuls are believed to be scouring the transfer market for a new keeper as Santiago Canizares is still to sign a new contract.

Reina has attracted criticism for his performances this season, particularly during the Merseyside derby defeat to Everton, but would not come cheaply even if Rafa Benitez did think about selling his fellow Spaniard.

After joining from Villarreal in 2005, 'Pepe' has made the number one jersey at Anfield his own, seeing off the challenge of Champions League final hero Jerzy Dudek.

Mestalla sports director Amedeo Carboni is said to be contemplating the merits of making a move for the 24-year-old.

Reina, meanwhile, has written off Liverpool's title chances after the defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

"Fourth place is our target now," he stated.

"We have to fight for that.

"The championship is probably too far away for us because, mathematically, [Manchester] United and Chelsea are so superior.

"We have got to start showing more character."
