bkn jua Hawk... when hom mentioned IT kegunaan atu bkn maksud hom Govt sja kan mengambil org IT ani bekeraja..
what I am trying to say is... IT can be anyway..not necessarily keraja ra ...
I believed that most parents would want their children to work with the Government, altough it's not pensionable, it is still secure. From experience, working in a private sector in Brunei is not secured. Workers are easily given notice to leave. and as a result you just cannot plan your future. Not only that, there is no protection from the Government should there be retrenchment. Just see what happen to MCT Muara. The contract is supposed to be 25 yrs, but was cut short to just 6 yrs. The workers planned themselves for 25 yrs at least until the bombshell. What happen now? They are out of job. And there were other retrenchments which not people know about. Orang yang merasa saja tau tu!
Having said that I do agree that IT ani kegunaan but IT can be self thought while other degrees or qualifications cannot be self thought. If my children were to be given a scholarship by the Government, I would certainly advise them to go for other qualifications rather than IT. |

Asem Looks To China To Solve Major Issues
Hamburg - Top diplomats from 46 countries in Asia and Europe meet in Germany from Monday for talks ranging from the Darfur conflict and the North Korean and Iranian nuclear crises to global warming.
Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, is in Hamburg to attend the talks. The eighth Asia-Europe meeting (ASEM) of foreign ministers comes after new French President Nicolas Sarkozy declared that major international issues cannot be resolved without the cooperation of China.
"There will be no solution on the question of Iran, on the question of Darfur, on the question of North Korea, without strong and positive Chinese involvement," Sarkozy said on Wednesday.
French Foreign MinisterBemard Kouchnerhas signalled that he plans to use the two-day meeting in the northern German city of Hamburg to hold one-on-one talks with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi on Darfur.
China is the leading customer for Sudanese oil and sells arms to the Khartoum government, which is accused of supporting Arab militia in Darfur in a brutal campaign against non-Arabs which the UN says has left 200,000 dead and two million displaced. Beijing has been blocking US-led attempts at the United Nations Security Council to use sanctions to force Sudan to allow UN troops into the region to stem the bloodshed.
On Friday, the council endorsed plans for a hydrid UNAfrican Union force but its deployment remains subject to the approval of Khartoum.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose country currently holds the EU and G8 presidencies, last week said Berlin believed strongly that UN peacekeepers should "at last" be deployed in Darfur.
Kouchner, a human rights champion for whom the ASEM meeting marks his second trip abroad since taking office this month, has pinpointed China as one of the countries that should be included, along with the United States, in a proposed new contact group of nations on Darfur.
China's presence at the ASEM meeting will also give European diplomats another chance ahead of the G8 summit on June 6-8 to press the emerging industrial giant for a clear commitment on fighting global warming. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin

'Walk For Life' Draws the Crowds
By Aemy Azlena
Bandar Seri Begawan - People from all walks of life yesterday gathered at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien for a walkathon to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS.
More than 1,000 people including government officials, staff of private companies and the general public took part in the four-kilometre walk around the capital.
The Minister of Health, Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Awg Suyoi bin Hj Osman, lauded Brunei Darussalam Aids Council (BDAC) over the success of the `Walk For Life' event.
He hoped that other private agencies would follow their example and that the walkathon would be held annually.
Liyana Latif, the chairperson of the "Walk for Life" event and honorary secretary of BDAC, said that walkathon was to make people realise that HIV/AIDS exists in Brunei Darussalam. She also urged the public to put an end to the stigma of HIV/AIDS.
The "Walk For Life" event was supported by Kristal FM, DST Com, Gob Hock Kee Motors Sdn Bhd, Sullivans (B) Sdn Bhd, D' Anggerek Service Apartment, TST, Aifa Sdn Bhd, Nazmi Textile Mall, Little Bean Company, BLNG, Soon Lee Megamart, Freme Travel. Sdn Bhd and Standard Chartered Bank. Volunteers from the Penyinar Club were also involved in the walkathon.
At the end of the event, prizes were presented to the top four people who collected the most donations for the event; first prize went to BDAC President Datin Hjh Edah Hj Mohd Noor.
Proceeds will go to BDAC's awareness programmes and other Penyinar Youth programmes.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin

Peek Into Future Defence Technology
By Lyna Mohamad
Bandar Seri Begawan - The BRIDEX 2007 Forum that begins May 31 will look into the software and the experience in terms of creating this technology in the defence industry, so as to provide more knowledge to Bruneians, especially in sharing information, experience and ideas.
"We are looking at the future technology, communications and intelligence in the field of defence. As far as the economic enhancement is concerned, I think it will open up new dimensions for our people, especially our entrepreneurs to venture into the defence industry to establish contacts, look for possible investments, joint venture with foreign companies, and so on," said a representative of the Forum committee.
He said that there will be a mix of people who will benefit from this forum and of course for the local participants, it will enhance their vision and knowledge on what's going on in the defence industry.
"This is a golden opportunity for them to learn as much as possible. As I said many experts will be here, so take advantage of them and ask as many questions as possible to gain knowledge," he added.
Students who are interested to learn more on defence matters for their future career are also welcome.
Participants can either walk in or register at the registration centre at the ICC or register online through the BRIDEX 2007 official website.
The forum committee has in fact received some online registrations and seats have been reserved for them. The forum will cater to about 300 to 400 participants and entry will be on a first-come first-served basis as the committee has also invited a number of military personnel from MINDEF, Directorates Military and Civilians and the three services, Navy, Air Force, Land Force and Support Services.
The first session of the Forum entitled "Economic Enhancement Programme" will see seven speakers moderated by Chairman and CEO Blenheim Capital Services Mr Richard Grant Rogan.
The speakers are from various companies as DESO, SAAB, BT, Clifford Chance, STEMCO and Blenheim themselves and have played a key role in assisting the Forum committee to identify speakers.
The second session May 1 will focus on technology C41 SR and UV Unmanned Aerial Vehicle with four speakers making their presentations. Under this session, speakers from General Dynamics of Canada and Northrop Grumman, SAAB and BAE System will be heard followed by question and answer sessions. The committee prefers to have an interactive session amongst the participants and audience, allowing them to ask any questions.
The third session in the afternoon will focus on Homeland Security. There will be two speakers, one from SAAB and the other from Pakistan, and it will be moderated by the Director of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies.
The fourth and final session will focus on combat fitness, where there will be short discussions from professors and doctors on Roles of Sports Medicine and Exercise Science and on the performance of an Optimisation Centre that RBAF is planning to establish.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
