She's here, there, everywhere. Shilpa Shetty is truly the one actress who's crossed over to the west without doing even a single Hollywood film.
CNN-IBN correspondent Varsha Pillai chats up with her on her plans to celebrate her birthday in Yorkshire at the IIFA awards.
Varsha Pillai: It's London all the way for you, is it?
Shilpa Shetty: Oh God, well i guess it is just the timing. I was telling Andre why not call it Shaifa! I'm just joking.

	Aziz Mirza's son to direct Aamir Khan?
	If sources are to be believed then Aamir Khan has committed to do a film which will be directed by Aziz Mirza抯 son Harun Mirza. This will be Harun抯 directorial debut. The film is likely to be produced by Tips Industries. Though nothing has been signed on the dotted line, Aamir Khan will most likely be doing this film. Aamir has apparently asked for certain changes in the script and if the changes are made on time, then the film may go on floors somewhere in August or September. Another principal character is yet to be finalized and the person who will most probably be approached will be Shahid Kapoor mainly for the fact that he has signed a two film deal with Tips. Shahid at present is signing select films and hence should have his dates free during that period. Aamir is currently acting in his home production Taare Zameen Par which will also mark his directorial debut. He is also committed to do Mani Ratnam抯 Lajjo costarring Kareena Kapoor and remake of the south Indian film Ghajini costarring Asin and Mohit Alawat. Apart from all this he is also launching his nephew Imraan Khan under his banner through the film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Seems like the actor known for doing only one film at a time has his date diary full for the next couple of years.

You抳e just bagged the keenly-contested Screen Award for Best Actor (Female) for Omkara. Be honest, were you expecting it?
I had come for the Awards Nite to give a performance. I was really excited about matching steps with Helen aunty...live...on stage. After my act was over, I sat down with Shahid (Kapoor) and Karisma to enjoy the show. I wasn抰 expecting anything. It was a wonderful surprise when my name was announced.

And Kajol who was a strong contender too for the same trophy, reached out to give you a warm congratulatory hug.
(Beaming happily) Yeah, and it felt wonderful. Kajol and my sister have been contemporaries. She抯 seen me literally grow up. I guess she has a kind of sisterly affection for me. She herself came up with a tremendous performance in Fanaa. When your own film family cheers for you, it抯 very heartening because then you are convinced that all the hard work has paid off.

And Omkara was a lot of hard work?
It was a real tough act to pull off not only because I was surrounded by top-notch actors like Ajay (Devgan), Saif (Ali Khan) and Konkona (Sen Sharma) who kept me on my toes, but also because I did not have too many lines. I抳e always believed that dialogue is the biggest crutch for an actor but in this film I often had to emote in silence. I had to feel...and then make it real. This was doubly difficult for someone who抯 a mainstream actor. But Vishal (director Vishal Bhardwaj) held my hand and guided me like a toddler. He was very supportive, right through the shoot.

Film on Salman Khan's black buck shooting Filmmaker Ranjit Sharma has decided to make a movie on Salman Khan's shooting of the endangered black buck that sent the Bollywood hero to prison for 71 hours.

The actor is facing trial in a Jodhpur court on charges of killing a black buck and chinkaras (Indian gazel) while shooting for 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' in 1992.

Salman was sentenced to imprisonment in April last year. After spending 71 hours in jail as prisoner number 210, Salman won bail from a higher court.

'Quaidi Number 210', the movie based on the case, is expected to star real characters, including the lawyers who are fighting the case. Jodhpur-based Kamal Srimali has written the script for the film.

Sharma, who has earlier made a film on the life of bargirls, was in Jodhpur recently to finalise locations and sign characters.

'Barring Rahul Roy, who will play Salman in the film, we wish to cast real characters of the story to make the film as original as possible,' Sharma said.

He added that the Jodhpur central jail administration had granted him permission to shoot inside the prison.

Sharma has started approaching people involved in the case. He has already signed the driver of the Maruti Gypsy used in the killing of the animals.

Hastimal Sarawat, Salman's advocate, confirmed that Sharma approached him for a role but he said he would not make a decision without going through the script.

'I want to make sure the film will not harm my client in any which way. Also, it should not show anything which might influence the trial,' he said.

Mahipal Bishnoi, who has fought the case as a representative of the Bishnoi community, is also unsure about acting in the film. 'It all depends on what they what to show. Let me read through the script,' he said.

The Bishnoi community of Rajasthan worships the black buck. The area where the animals were killed is populated by Bishnois.

However, Sharma is confident he would be able to win them over and he hopes the film will hit theatres early next year.

When Shiney Ahuja lifted Vidya Balan in his arms

The two actors are paired together in Priyadarshan抯 forthcoming film Bhool Bhulaiya .

In the movie Vidya Balan plays a Kathak dancer who suffers from split personality syndrome. Shiney Ahuja plays the man in love with her.

While shooting for a romantic song together, Shiney and Vidya enjoyed each other抯 company so much that their chemistry was apparent before the camera.

During a shot, Shiney acted on impulse and lifted Vidya in his arms. Though the shot looked romantic, Shiney ended up with a sprained back.

But Shiney is not complaining. He says even if he has to lift Vidya a hundred times and sprain his back doing so, he would do it.

Amongst his dozen odd hits, Emraan Hashmi would certainly place 'Ya Ali' [GANGSTER] in at least one of his Top-3 hits ever. Now the co-star of his first big hit [MURDER], Mallika Sherawat, too is seen lip synching to 'Ya Ali' though the setting is completely different. She gyrates to the namesake track for her upcoming release AAP KAA SURROOR - THE MOVIEE where she reportedly plays a negative character. Sunidhi Chauhan sings for Mallika in a westernized mode with her voice suiting Mallika's on-screen appearance. Also featuring the lead cast of the film, Himesh Reshammiya and Riya, 'Ya Ali' is set as a party track where Mallika is shown to be falling in love with the composer/singer/actor as he renders the track.

Big B pushes Brand India at Cannes

After the honour of walking the red carpet at Cannes, Brand India continued to make its presence felt at the film festival with Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan promoting his latest release 'Cheeni Kum', which was premiered here. There were several other eminent filmmakers present, including Mani Ratnam, Shankar, Prakashraj, Rituparno Ghosh, Raju Hirani, adding to the Indian touch Monday. Ashutosh Gowarikar's historical 'Jodha Akbar' as well as 'Goal' were launched at the festival. The India Pavilion was abuzz with a lot of networking and activity. IDream Independent Pictures held several screenings of the films it has brought to market and were reported to be doing brisk business. Shemarro Entertainment is marketing its animation film 'Ghatothkach', which has also fetched several market enquiries. 'There is a huge India interest now. I can say with confidence that Cannes is not fun, but serious business,' said Ajay Khanna, deputy director general, Confederation of Indian Industry. India was the partner country at the opening night of the Cannes Market Party on May 17. The next day was the India Focus party, attended by over 1,000 guests. Over the next two days seven Indian films were screened, in addition to the Indian delegation being given the honour of walking the Red Carpet on May 19. On Monday, Amitabh Bachchan became India's brand ambassador walking the Cannes croissette when his 'Cheeni Kum' was premiered at the Cannes Market. A group of independent Indian filmmakers held a grand party at the Carlton beach projecting India's presence. India was also the spotlight country at the producers network organised by National Film Development Corporation Tuesday. Over 20 Indian showbiz companies have exhibited their projects and products at the India Pavilion and exhibition area Palais. It has been organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry with the support of the ministry of information and broadcasting. Over 80 companies from India, including 40 independent filmmakers, are at Cannes and they have over 150 films to showcase.

SC allows Shilpa Shetty to go abroad

The Supreme Court Friday allowed Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty to go abroad, staying a look out notice issued against her for the controversial on-stage pecks Hollywood star Richard Gere planted on her cheek during a public show here. A bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan paved the way for Shilpa's visits abroad by staying the look out notice, linked to the arrest warrant issued against Hollywood actor Richard Gere. In her application to the court Shilpa said that on a private complaint over Gere's pecks to her cheek during an AIDS awareness campaign in the capital last month, a Mundwar court near Alwar in Rajasthan on April 20 had ordered investigation into the episode. Shilpa's counsel told the bench that while the Mundwar court had also barred Gere from leaving the country, another court in Jaipur April 26 had issued arrest warrant against him. And these two legal actions against Gere had also resulted into issuance of a look out notice against Shilpa, impeding Shilpa's free movement, the counsel added. As Shilpa's counsel mentioned the matter before the bench, which also had Justice B.P. Singh and Justice G.P. Mathur on it, stayed the notice issued against her and granted her permission to go abroad. Ironically, the actress had to approach the court for suspension of the notice against her despite the apex court staying all criminal proceedings against her in various courts over the Gere kiss episode merely three days back.

Q: Last we saw you in Don, what prompted you to make a sensational appearance in the forthcoming KYA LOVE STORY HAI? A: Actually the film's director Lovely Singh is a very close friend. I've known him since Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. Doing the song was a gesture of love and friendship. And when he explained the concept to me and I heard the song I knew it was going to be a rocking number. I loved it. I've worn the most glamorous clothes, driven a limo and strummed a 25-feet guitar! It doesn't get better! Q: How was it facing the camera after a year? A: What a coincidence! I began my break last year after completing the dance number for Don, and now I have ended my break again with a dance number for Kya Love Story Hai! I was away purely out of choice because I needed to relax and unwind, but now it feels great to be doing what I have always loved doing. Q: Did you contribute to the song in any way? A: Since I am playing myself in the song, I told Lovely that I would not go overboard on the glamour front with any itsy-bitsy costumes. It was my idea to perform in jeans and gorgeous gowns. Otherwise, it has been the team work of music director Pritam , choreographer Bosco, my dress designer Manish Malhotra, the director Lovely Singh , and Alisha China who has lent her golden voice to this number. Q: Did you imagine what a huge craze It's Rocking from Kya Love Story Hai would become? A: I'm not surprised, when I first heard it, I loved it! Q: Personally what kind of music do you listen to? A: My all time favourites are the old classics from films like Aawara, Chori Chori etc. It's Rocking actually has references to the erstwhile hit, Ude Jab Jab Zulfein Teri! Q: What are your expectations from your sensational appearance in Kya Love Story Hai? A: There are no expectations except that I can experiment with some really glamorous looks. It is a good balance after doing films like Chameli and Omkara where I am deglam. And then there is the additional high of knowing that millions of people out there are going to dance to my moves! Q: Tell us about your forthcoming projects? A: Imtiaz Ali's film with Shahid as my co-star is one I am excited about, then I have Yash Chopra's next with Akshay and Saif, and there is Mani Ratnam's Lajjo with Aamir Khan. Q: What is the secret of your slim-as-a-reed figure? A: I begin the day by doing yoga and that has really helped! Anurag Basu was keen that his lucky mascot, Emraan (they抳e given two hits together- Murder and Gangster) play the role, which was finally essayed by Sharman Joshi. Thankfully, Sharman played the character well.
