Flores Preparing Five-Man Midfield For Sevilla
Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores tried out a five-man midfield with Saturday's clash against Sevilla im mind.
Los Che travel to the Sanchez Pizjuan for what is set to be the clash of the week, and Flores is looking to reinforce his midfield in order to deal with Sevilla.
He switched from 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1, with Baraja slotting in alongside Raul Albiol and Edu, Joaquin on the right, and Vicente on the left.
David Villa and Morientes were on international duty, so it wasn't clear which of the two would start up front, though it is unlikely that Villa gets pushed to the bench.
What was surprising, though, was that Tavano still played with the substitutes, as youth team forward Aaron was preferred.kes naya tul la....balik italy je lah tavano :lol
Injury problems returned to disrupt preparations toward the end, as Vicente injured his ankle after being tackled during the practise match, while Edu also had to retire with what was later discovered to be an inflammation of the knee ligament. The Brazilian is doubtful for Saturday's game.
David Silva can fill in for Vicente, but it is not sure who will take on Edu's role. Midfielder Jorge Lopez is likely to be the replacement if Flores decides on three central midfielders.
First Team Used In Training: Ca?zares - Curro Torres, David Navarro, Ayala, Cerra - Joaquin, Baraja, Albiol, Edu, Vicente - Aaron. |

Valencia seal top spot
Two goals in two minutes either side of half-time saw Valencia ease to a 2-0 win at home to Olympiacos. Despite already having qualified for the last 16, the Spanish side fielded a full-strength line-up and might regret it after David Villa limped off in the first half.
His replacement Fernando Morientes was amongst the goals with a powerful 46th-minute header, after Miguel Angel Angulo had given Valencia the lead with a superb right-footed effort just before the break.
The great Brazilian Rivaldo, now of Olympiacos, is perhaps most famous for a remarkable hat-trick he scored against Valencia for Barcelona in 2001.
He started as though he intended to inflict similar damage again, stinging Santiago Canizares' hands with a 20-metre effort on three minutes.
He carried the Greek attack to the hosts, who were guaranteed a qualifying berth before kick-off and are now assured of top spot.
Questions will certainly be asked about Quique Sanchez Flores's selection of leading striker Villa, especially after the Spanish international went down clutching his knee on 20 minutes.
Olympiacos' Milos Maric, himself an early substitute, forced a tremendous save from Canizares with a long-range free-kick, before David Silva went close at the other end with a flying header.
Angulo broke the deadlock on 45 minutes, as neat first-time passing on the left found the Valencia number ten, who skipped past his man and saw his effort deflected high into the net.
Less than 60 seconds after the restart, Morientes doubled the lead when he leapt to head in a precise Silva cross.
That made it four goals in five Champions League outings for the former Liverpool man, who is really enjoying his football now he has returned to Spain.
Right winger Joaquin came agonisingly close to making it two five minutes later, when he breezed past his man and chipped goalwards, only to see his effort cleared off the line.
There was more frustration for the former Real Betis man later, when a pacy free-kick from the right cannoned back off the upright with Antonios Nikopolidis beaten.
The Greek side had no answer, but can still nick third place and a UEFA Cup berth if they beat Shakhtar Donetsck in Piraeus in a fortnight.

Villa to miss Madrid clash
Valencia striker David Villa, who was forced off in the first half against Olympiacos in midweek with a thigh injury, is almost certain to miss the vital Liga match with Real Madrid at the weekend.
Los Che welcome the capital club to the Mestalla on Sunday, needing to win to avoid losing touch completely with the teams at the top end of the table.
Despite Valencia having already secured qualification for the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League, Sanchez Flores fielded a full-strength side and paid the penalty when Villa pulled up hurt.
The Valencia boss was upbeat however, claiming that the 2-0 win over their Greek opponents on Wednesday will give his team the advantage over a Madrid side who could only draw at home to Lyon.
"This win will raise the team's spirits and improve our self-esteem before Real visit us," he insisted.
Right back Miguel meanwhile illustrated the horrendous run of injuries from which the club is currently suffering, with Edu, Raul Albiol, Emiliano Moretti, Asier del Horno, Carlos Marchena, David Albelda, Jaime Gavilan, David Navarro and Vicente all missing from the first team squad.
"Everything is happening to us," Miguel lamented. "The last three or four weeks have been tough with so many injuries. It's not a good spell, but we will overcome it."
