Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 16, 2006]

Eminent director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Friday approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash the case filed against him pertaining to the violations of the provisions of the Essential Commodities act during the filming of his magnum opus ?lack?. In March 2006, an antique dealer Farida Hoosenally approached the Borivali Metropolitan Magistrate Court seeking an FIR lodged against the director and his production house, Applause Bhansali Films for the destruction of antique items resulting in loss of several crores.

Farida had stated that Bhansali has used two Liquefied Petroleum Gas Cylinders of 14 kilograms for domestic purpose. However for commercial purpose a 19 kg cylinder has to be used as per the Essential Commodities Act and Liquefied Petroleum Order. Also during the filming the set had caught allegedly destroying antiques worth several crores in February, 2004. The chargesheet has been filed but the case is still pending before the court. Bhansali approached the court seeking quashing of the chargesheet and the case before the magistrate court. The matter will be heard on January 16th.

Currently Bhansali is working on his next film ?aawariya? starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. He is desperately hoping to get reprieve from this case.

Ash-Abhi Shaadi? Nah?ot Again?
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 18, 2006]

A Mumbai tabloid yesterday published a hush hush news report that the elusive couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai will be tying the knot (finally) on February 19th, 2007. And the big reception will be held at Hotel Grand Hyatt in Mumbai. Obviously the media as expected will be kept out of it. Now, don? you think this Ash-Abhi shaadi business has become a bit too boring for comfort?

In the past few months everything that the couple has been doing is being talked about. Ashi-Hrithik kiss controversy spread like a dhoom fire, Abhishek? lackluster bloated look in ?hoom 2? came in for strict criticism, Ashwarya? Enforcement Directorate troubles surrounding the ?ash? problems (gifts and hawala), the miserable failure of the ?mrao Jaan? chemistry, Abhishek winning a high honour in Uttar Pradesh reserved for senior poets and writers, a fluff magazine solemnizing the Ash-Abhi marriage in a Madurai temple, the not-so-secret-post-midnight pooja performed by Ashwarya along with Bachchan in Varanasi?.Life? been one controversial ride for the couple. And the best part is that the duo has been fuelling speculations through their actions and then go around saying that there? nothing in their relationship.

One never knows, but even this February 19th marriage date is another publicity stunt to boost their next film ?uru? which has been receiving thanda vibes so far. Right before the release of ?mrao Jaan? (another film starring the couple) there were reports from the so called ?eliable? sources that Ash will be making the announcement on her birthday November 1st. As expected no announcements were made and ?mrao Jaan? ended up as a colossal flop of the year. Hopefully ?uru? will receive a better response for it is the creation of a genius and must be a better watch.

As for the Ashi-Abhi marriage rumours, Bachchans should come out clean. For somehow, their reputation is suffering because of this never ending drama?nd then they blame the media?ow ironical!

Nishabd promos off the air?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 18, 2006]

Why does it keep happening to Ram Gopal Verma movies?

In a year that has not been too kind to Ram Gopal Verma, the promotion and release strategy for his films has left much to be desired. First there was this sandwiching technique that RGV had tried to apply by announcing the release of his 'Shiva' and 'Darwaza Bandh Rakho' a week before and after 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna'.

The promos did come on air announcing the release date but were inconsistent to leave much of an impact.

Later, the release of both the films were postponed and the box office outcome was there for everyone to be seen. Meanwhile he wrapped up his 'Nishabd' and while the film was in its post production, he started his magnum opus 'Ram Gopal Verma Ke Sholay'.

Somewhere towards the end of this year, he decided to start the promotion of 'Nishabd' and soon the publicity of the film kick started in a big way.

The slick'n'sensual promos were all over the small screen which indeed managed to catch quite a few eyeballs. After all an 18 something Jiah Khan acting seductively in front of a 60 something Big B was not something that could go missing.

The release period was announced to be February as well and suddenly all of this seemed to be very much planned and thought of.

Hence it comes as a surprise to see the pace go down for the publicity of 'Nishabd'. The promos that had arrived with a bang are suddenly finding them extinct with the promotion of some other films taking precedence over it. A movie that appeared to be coming to the town soon now seems to have gone slow.

One wonders if 'Nishabd' would eventually arrive in an anyways overcrowded February that has confirmed releases like Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd., Traffic Signal, Eklavya - The Royal Guard, Shakalaka Boom Boom and Metro lined up.

Banjar [Kabul Express] arrives - Finally!
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, December 18, 2006]

Ever since Raghav Sachar's debut Bollywood soundtrack for 'Kabul Express' had arrived, the wait was becoming unbearable to see the best song of the album, 'Banjar', on screen. Though it was known loud and clear that none of the songs would be making an appearance in the film, the least one was expecting was a promotional music video of the song, a la 'Kabul Fiza'.

Well, YRF may not have got a music video created for the song but they at least got the song on air as a part of the film's promotion by incorporating number of important shots and scenes from the film as the song played in background. Needless to say, this track sung by Shubha Mudgal, KK and Sunidhi Chauhan has succeeded in making a terrific impact on the viewer as an array of scenes are viewed on screen.

A rock track by all means, this number written by Swartmika Mishra and Vijay Kumar along with Aditya Dhar is one of the best theme tracks heard this year and one must credit Raghav Sachar for the effect he has managed to create.

Karan Johar? ?og?ed avatar
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 19, 2006]

Karan Johar is a creative guy for sure. For, he keeps coming up with ?ifferent? kinda ideas. After breaking his own mould with the bold ?abhi Alvida Na Kehna?, KJ is all set to start working on an animated version of his hugely successful debut film ?uch Kuch Hota Hai? and hold your horses, dogs are going to be playing the roles immortalized by SRK, Rani and Kajol. Sniff sniff?o that one?

It has also been learnt that in this dog? day out caper song and dance will play a part too. So, get ready for some canine-music. One wonders if SRK, Rani and Kajol will give their own voices to this ?og?ed affair. Moreover, will there be a shift in clothesline of Kajol from gawky pants to chiffon sarees?t? gonna be one hell of a brainstorm?r should we say?og-storm

Aamir, the reformist, Rises again?
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 19, 2006]

Aamir Khan is known to do different things. Differently. After supporting a film like ?ang De Basanti? (It may never have been made if Aamir wouldn? have agreed to be a part of it), his support for the rehabilitation of the displaced people owing to the building of Sardar Sarovar Dam earned him loads of accolades. Now, it seems Khan is all set to take up another issue. But this time around he is making a film on that.

According to sources, Aamir is going to be producing a film revolving around farmers who are forced to commit suicide when they are unable to meet with the calamity of crop failure. The film has been written and will be directed by former journalist Anusha Rizvi. Apparently Aamir was gravely moved by the script which talks about the alarming suicide rate among farmers.

The story is centred around a broadcast journalist who has been closely following the abominable condition of defaulter farmers and their families. As for the casting, then Aamir wants to bring in real faces for the film and auditions are being held at NDTV? office in Mumbai. The film will be hitting the floors by Februray-March, 2007. Now, it remains to be seen where does that leaves his other films like ?hajini? remake and ?ajjo?. But if Aamir actually goes ahead and makes such a film as this then it will be a wonderful gesture on the part of the superstar. For, he is using his position to do something for the betterment of the society.

Indiaglitz says?ore power to Aamir Khan.

Rahul Sharma launches 'santoor' albums in dozens
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 19, 2006]

There was a time when the only music that was marketed well (apart from Hindi film music) was the genre that went by the name of Indi-pop.

Further to this came the remix wave which has more or less died down over the last couple of years. But to one's pleasant surprise, an industry that has grown over the past few months is lounge music and fusion albums that incorporate Indian classical elements in them.

The man who seems to have benefited most out of this new wave is internationally acclaimed 'santoor' player Rahul Sharma.

If one looks at the sheer volume of albums he has brought on stands in the last few months, it would make the picture quite clear. His TIME TRAVELER came a few months back and was an instant success. Further to this, he came up with WHITE which was picked up by the connoisseurs of experimental music.

But what takes the cake is the last couple of months that have brought to fore as many as 4 new albums by Rahul Sharma. First to come was H2O that was followed by MAYA. Beyond this, there are also albums like LADAKH and INTERFACE that have been gracing the stands for last few weeks.

Needless to say, though it seems like an overdose of santoor albums by Rahul Sharma, each of them come with a distinct flavor of their own that makes the music stand out.

With number of music videos on air that feature tracks from these albums, it indeed has been a great musical year for Rahul Sharma and the music lovers who have found a liking for 'santoor'!

Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 19, 2006]

Vishal Bhardwaj's 'The Blue Umbrella' is all set to release on 5th January and the film is already arousing curiosity amongst those who want their cinema to be simple, sensible and yet entertaining. A story about a young girl who gets hold of a fascinating umbrella that becomes the object of desire of everyone in her village, 'The Blue Umbrella' brings to fore the talent of a young girl names Shreya Sharma.

She plays the role of a sweet, unassuming 10-year-old girl, Biniya who leads a simple life in her village up in the mountains. She loves her family dearly and worships her older brother, Bijju, a local wrestler and village champ.

Like all children, she is loyal and values her friends dearly and will defend them when they are in trouble. Wise beyond her years, Biniya possesses a maturity, which places her above the villagers, as she is the only person who can see through fellow villager Nandkishore? [Pankaj Kapur] tricks.

The blue umbrella makes her popular in the village but it does not take away any of her innocence. The umbrella comes to represent her whole world. But when it goes missing, she plunges into deep despair; alienated from her perceived source of popularity, only to discover that the friends and family she has all along is what make her so special.

Sanober's 'Soniye Dil Nahi Lagda' sourced from Aman Hayer composition
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, December 19, 2006]

A few days back we had mentioned about Sanober Kabir making a splash with her brand new song 'Soniye Dil Nahi Lagda'. Now we have been informed that it is actually a number that has its base from an already existing song with the same title.

The song has been composed by Aman Hayer who is a well known composer in UK Bhangra music scene and is the student of well known composer/singer Sukshinder Shinda, the man who composes for Jazzy B. The original 'Dil Nahi Lagda' has been sung by Feroz Khan and Vinni and was released in 2005.

Nevertheless, what matters in the end is whether the song is entertaining or not and in that regard, 'Dil Nahi Lagda' winds hands down. Young Sanober makes just the right moves as required by the song while the rocking tune only makes the number extremely catchy and likeable.
