Sylvinho to leave Barcelona
MADRID (AFP) – Sylvinho is leaving Barcelona after the European champions failed to offer the Brazilian international defender a new contract.
"FC Barcelona have informed Sylvio Mendes Campos ?Sylvinho' that his contract will not be extended when it ends on 30th June," the Spanish league and cup winners announced on their website.
"FC Barcelona would like to publicly acknowledge and thank Sylvinho for his contribution and commitment over the last five seasons, during which he has won two Champions League trophies, three Spanish leagues, one Kings Cup and two Spanish Super Cups."
The 35-year-old former Arsenal player joined Barcelona from Celta Vigo in 2004.

Barcelona president leaves door open to Eto'o departure
MADRID (AFP) – Barcelona president Joan Laporta has left the door open for the departure of Samuel Eto'o, saying Wednesday that the future of the Cameroon striker at the Spanish champions would depend on the transfer market.
"The football market is very dynamic and maybe there could be a surprise because he is a player who is very much in demand," he said.
Eto'o, the top scorer for Barcelona in the league this season with 30 goals, is under contract with the Catalan side until 2010 and "it would be great if he finished his career at Barcelona," he added.
The 28-year-old has reportedly sparked interest from English Premier League club Manchester City and French side Lyon and Italian side Inter Milan.
Catalan radio RAC1 reported Tuesday that Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola has told Eto'o that he will not be counting on him next year.
But it is unlikely that Barcelona will let him go unless they sign a replacement for the striker.
Spanish media have tipped Valencia's David Villa, Atletico Milan's Diego Forlan and Inter Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic as possible replacements for Eto'o.

Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas
Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas is reportedly close to signing for Barcelona.
The 22-year-old heads a list of five targets drawn up by Nou Camp boss Pep Guardiola, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
Barcelona are encouraged by a stream of praise from Fabregas, who last week told a Catalan radio station that anyone would want to play for the newly crowned European champions.
And the newspaper claims 'reliable sources' believe there is already a 'firm agreement' that their former trainee will rejoin the club next month.
It is estimated the fee would be in excess of £40million, though Barca could offer players in exchange or a significant chunk of cash in performance-related clauses.
Guardiola is said to have discussed targets with director of football Txiki Begiristain, Barcelona's dealmaker, on Monday.
Other than Fabregas, Barca would recall Brazilian defender Henrique, who spent the season on loan at Leverkusen.
Almeria right-back Bruno Saltor is also wanted to cover for Dani Alves and they are seeking a left-back and winger, who have yet to be identified.
