"We are just handsome faces? We are too young? Listen to our music first!"
When E-Daily's SPN asked if they are often referred to as "the handsome band," FT ISland responded "those who thinks of us that way should definitely listen to our music."
It seems that they've been called "the handsome band" more than enough times. The media is merely complimenting their attractive faces but FT Island seems to be taking as a criticism; 'showing off their looks without any skills'
So we asked: are there any adults that belittle you based on your young age? FT Island sincerely revealed what they've always had in their minds.
"Every time we hear that we think band culture is still not publicized in korea. In other countries, little kids live with an instrument in their hands but here, when teens like us say we want to form a band adults demean us saying 'how can kids like you know music?' We hope those critics listen to our album and witness our performance."
And then they added with a smile, "it'd be great if Korea's band culture change through us."
FT Island is a band of five memebers: Choi Jonghun, Lee Hongki, Oh Wonbin, Lee Jaejin and Choi Minhwan. Leader and piano player Jonghun, vocal Hongki and vocal and guitar player Wonbin are 18 years old. Bassist Jaejin is 17 and drummer Minhwan is 16, even younger than the band members' average age 17.4.
Although Five Treasure Island boasts charming faces that justifies their nickname "the handsome band" they revealed that they want to be recognized for their skills instead of looks in the indsutry.
They have recently released thier first album "Cheerful Sensibility" and title song "Love Sick" is ranking top spots on on/off line charts.

1990's hottie singer Shimsin and 2000's handsome group FT Island presented a fantastic stage together and drove the fans wild.
Shimsin and FT Island performed Shimsin's 1991's hit song 'You, the only one" on MBC Show! Music Core and received endless applaud.
Shimsin, who was extremely popular in the 1990s and led the 'oppa troup,' performed together with this year's hot topic FT Island.
FT Island's vocal Lee Hongki, with a powerful vocalism that almost parallel that of Shimsin's, stood shoulder to shoulder with his idol. Hongki and Shimsin brought back the 90s onto the stage by dancing the classic double gun dance.
Shimsin, who appeared charismatic with his shades, was also praised for his amazing vocalism that hasnt changed from 16 years ago.
FT Island's other members illuminated the stage even more with their live performance of drums and bass.
When the song ended Hongki and Shimsin closed the stage with exchange of warm hugs.
Shimsin expressed his joy that the performance "brought back memories." Hongki confessed "when I was a baby my parents were Shimsin fans so I listened to your music growing up" and flattered the singer.
Meanwhile audience members like Hwanhee, Bryan and Clazziquai could not close their mouth in awe and sent their applause.

"This year's New Artist Award is Ours"
There is a rock band that plays instruments and sings while boasting their charisma on stage. But if you look closely, their faces are very young. Whats more? They are hot! It's no wonder we cant help but stare. We've seen alot of teenage dance groups and teenage ballad singers but teenage rockband like them is a rare case.
Perhaps its because they appeared on Mnet's "Wanna be my boyfriend?" last march and got themselves familiarized with the fans that they are already named "top star" among teens. Their huge popularity has gathered up 5000 fans at their recently held fan signing event. The media is already shadowing their every unpredictable moves.
We met with the dreamy FT Island that doesnt seem like teens when talking about music related passions and concerns but are obviously young middle and high schoolers who laugh about betting $1 in order to avoid going to the pool at dawn.
Following is an interview with FT Island.
- The media is already expecting alot of you. Dont you feel overwhelmed?
* (Lee Jaejin) We want to fulfill those expectations but we have much flaws since its our first time. We feel nervous and sorry at the same time because they overestimate us. So when we our schedules are empty we practice on our own.
- Why did you name your band "Five Treasure Island?"
* (Lee Hongki) The name reveals that we want to be like treasures to the fans and be cherished for our talents and music.
- It is unusual to have debuted with music instead of dance at young age.
* We didnt gather to dance so we never even attempted it. We dont want to dance either. We rather practice our instruments more if we have time to dance.
- How does "Buzz the 2nd" sound to you?
* We are thankful and honored. But we want to become a group with our own definite color.
- It seems alright to have debuted once you've become adults.
* Although we have flaws right now but our possibility for improvement is inifinite. We'll definitely improve releasing 2nd and 3rd album. Thats why we think its better to start early. For the sake of our dream we decided to accept the regrets we feel about not being able to enjoy normal highschool experience.
- Please tell us about the title song 'Love Sick'
* (Lee Jaejin) It is composed by Ryu Jae Hyun of Vibe and is a sad and lachrymose song that its sweet melody played on piano warms one's heart. Addition of Hongki's vocal and Wonbin's rap to this gives out dramatic impressions.
- What is special about the first album?
* I can be called the pre - stage for expressing our color. Publicized band music is emphasized. We want to do various kinds of songs. We'll show the improving us.
- Between the publicized rock and experimental rock, to which direction are you heading?
* Among the songs in our album, we prefer fresh and experimental rock style like 'FT Island.' But people tend to avoid bands so we tried dividing our album into two categories, publicized style and experimental rock, in order to approach the public.
- Do you feel confident about your skills when compared to other rock groups?
* We think we'll show as much as we practice. We practiced really hard so we want to be evaluated based on that. We hope that they'd come to our concert and feel our musical talents.
- While living with 5 men, any disagreements?
* We've been living together since 2005 for s years. At first we missed our mom and wanted to hang out with our friends. But by losing some we gain some so its ok now. We also found amusement in doing music. Living together with other members was a little difficult at first because of our different personalities but we get along well now.
- Any plans other than in music?
* We are a group formed because we like music and we still have a lot to work on musically. We only want to perform music. Even when we become skilled musicians, we think we'll still prefer music. For now we want to be all for music.
- Child-star Lee Hongki's decision to become a singer:
* I starred in KBS Children's Drama "Magic Kid Masuri" and MBC "Bingjum" when I was in 5th grade. When I sang at the after party for the last episode of EBS Children's drama "Ggangsooni," everyone complimented me on my singing. I was very intrested in music to begin with. So I think I got the feel right then and there (laughs)
- Ideal girl?
* (Lee Hongki) I like innocent and cute style like Song Hye Gyo.
(Oh Wonbin) I find stlyes like Jun Jihyun in the movie 'My Sassy girl' attractive.
(Lee Jaejin) Im Soo Jung's character in the movie "Sad Ruby" appeals to me.
(Choi Jonghun) Someone eloquent like Han Yeasel.
(Choi Minhwan) Someone cute like Han Hyo Ju.
- Any rivalry among members?
* (Oh Wonbin) I originally joined the team as a vocal but due to my overflowing greed I ended up playing guitar, singing, rapping and even playing the harmonica. I started late so I feel I'm behind everyone. I'm practicing hard daily.
(Lee Jaejin) I'm jealous of Minhwan. Despite he is younger than me he is alot stronger (laughs). I envy how when he decides to achieve somehting, he sticks to it like a practice - worm until he fulfils it.
- Future Plans
*Since we are a band we want to have alot of concerts. We dont feel confident about game programs because honestly we are not goot at speaking and its more fun to watch them for now.
- This year's goal
*We want to be ranked #1 in all the charts. We want to spread our music to many more poeple and definitely win this year's 'new artist award.'

[NEWS] "We want to hear guys cheering for us", FT Island.

The 5 member idol(?) band F.T. island showed hope to see male fans cheering for them.
In the interview with Herald econonmy F.T. island said that they want to hear low tone cheering from the audience.
In the present F.T. island gets a lot of attention from female fans, but they hoped that male fans would also cheer for them since that's what happens to Rock bands.
F.T island's members Choi Min Hwa (drum), Lee hing ki ( vocal), Lee jae jin (base), Oh won bin (guitar, vocal) Choi jong hoon(guitar, piano) range from Junior high to high school. The members are all in the 10's and are in the spotlight because they are also a band with looks.
They also said that their role models are Muse, Nickelback, Hoobastank, Linkin Park, YB, leeseungchul, boohwal (revival). They said that their goal is to spread Rock music.

FT Island #1 (online charts ranking)
"Are you sure they are new?"
Recently debuted vocal group FT Island took over #1 spot on online music charts and rose as this year's brightest star.
Currently FT Island's title song 'Love Sick' is ranked #1 on major online music charts such as Mnet.com, Melon, Muze, and Lunchbox.
This is the case of a newbie (that hasnt even debuted for 2 months) competing against (and defeating) top stars such as MC Mong, J and Bobby Kim. Among the new groups that debuted this year, FT Island is the fastest to reach the summit of k-pop charts; they are truly a 'scary newbie.'
Their success seems to the result of the group's 2 years of pre-debut training in vocal, instrumental skills and teamwork, and their sophisticated album made by Korea's best producers
FT Island, as a rock band of five Lee Honki (vocal), Lee Jaejin (bass), Oh Wonbin (guitar, vocal), Choi Minhwan (drum), Choi Jonghun (guitar,piano), cannot be compared to dancing idol groups.

F.T. Island Ready to Enter the Limelight
New, 5-member group FT Island will begin their full-scale advance into the Korean and Japanese pop scenes in August.
The brand new group has already created a buzz here in the local music world and through the power of the Korean Wave, they are also gaining recognition in Japan and even South East Asia. Some already die-hard Thai fans are even known to have traveled to Korea to attend the group’s events and concerts.
FT Island’s debut album, “Cheerful Sensibility,” as well as their first single, “사랑앓이/Love Sick,” have garnered a great response from local and foreign Kpop fans. The group will share the stage with big names like SG Wannabe, Yangpa and SeeYa on the 22nd as part of the Big 4 Concert series, to be held in Seoul Olympic Park.

"The Handsome Band" of five FT Island's 'Love Sick' took first place on online Music Site Jukeon.
FT Island has proudly won the top spot on Jukeon Weekly Chart (07.09 ~ 07.15) 5 weeks after their entry against Seeya's 'Sarang's Insa (Love's hello)' and MC Mong's 'So Fresh.'
Five Treasure Island is a band of five - Choi Jonghun (guitar.piano,17), Lee Hongki (vocal, 17), Oh Wonbin (vocal.guitar, 17), Lee Jaejin (bass,16) and Choi Minhwan (drum, 15) - that has all the qualities of an idol group.
Their debut album 'Cheerful Sensibility' showed off their various talents by presenting 'emotional' chapter with publicly appealing emotions and 'Island' chapter with experimental music that they want to do.
Meanwhile, last week's #1 Seeya has descended to 3rd place, MC Mong rose up to 2nd place, Fly to the Sky's 'My Angel' rose to 8th and successfully entered Top 10. 'The Pretty Boy Band' FT Island's Ideal Girl?
The band, FT Island, which has both looks and talents have revealed their ideal girl.
In a recent interview, FT island revealed their individual ideal girls among today's active female celebrities.
Song Hye Gyo, Jun Ji Hyun, Im Soo Jung, Han Ye Seul, Kim Tae Hee were among the top chosen.
They also said, "The ideal girl is nothing but the ideal girl (laughs)"
Hongki, the one that picked Song Hye Gyo, said the reason was because she's pure with a slight charm (aegyo) and that's the kind of person he likes. Oh Won Bin said he likes Jeon Ji Hyun from the movie "My Sassy Girl" because she overpowers men and Jaejin said he was an Im Soo Jung fan. Choi Jong Hoon's pick was Han Ye Seul's character in "Fantasy Couple" and Choi Minhwan picked either Kim Tae Hee or Han Hyo Joo.
FT Island's first album "Cheerful Sensibility" is said to be attracting fans with their sensitive and easy-going rock.
FT Island doesn't want to be known as "The 2nd Buzz" or "The 2nd MC the Max" but will try hard to be recognized as their own group with their own distinct flavor. "Therefore, later on, we hope many people will be yearning for us," remarked FT Island.
