The start of the Yarra River...sort off

At the top of the public area of the Upper Yarra Reservoir Park just below the huge dam wall, a small outlet pumps water out into a flat area of grass land which then turns into a small mountain stream. This is the beginning point of the Yarra River as we know it.

Further up in the mountains behind the dam, the river does actually feed into the dam but as its behind a locked Melbourne Water gate and in a protected catchment area, most people will never get to the real start of the Yarra River so this is as close as it gets for us mere mortals without a maste key and an exemption from "Rule 1" (which prohibits access under State law).

Morrell Bridge & Yarra River - Melbourne

The beautiful Morrell Bridge was built in 1899 and spans Melbourne's Yarra River. Located in a very picturesque part of the city, right beside The Royal Botanic Gardens, the bridge, which has also recently undergone a complete restoration, is closed to traffic and is now used as a pedestrian bridge.
