si fenny aku tu pun aku suspek ada kurap gak.. memula kat area leher dia.. dulu dia pakai choker.. agaknya tuan dia dulu x pernah bukak choker tu.. dah lebih kurang sebulan la dia x pakai choker.. pastu kat tempat bekas choker tu bulu dia botak (bekas choker). pastu aritu ada kutu lak.. tapi aku x beli spray kutu lagi.. now ni dah macam ada luka2 lak.. kat leher tu, kat telinga dia..
aku ingat nak mandikan dia kasi wangi sket.. tapi si fenny ni garang nak mampos.. kalau time manja, manja sungguh x hengat tapi kalau dtg angin monsun dia, pegang sket dia gigit aku sampai lebam2 (pic ada kat thread kucing membawa penyakit). so aku takutlah nak mandikan dia.. part kurap dia tu aku baru letak minyak gamat sekali jek.. nanti aku nak taruk lagi lah.. |

Ringworm (dermatophytosis) in Cats
What is ringworm?
Ringwormis the most common fungal skin infection seen in cats. Contrary to thename, ringworm is caused by a microscopic group of parasitic fungalorganisms known as dermatophytes (which means "plants that live on theskin"). Ringworm invades the dead, outer layers of the skin, claws& hair.
Are there different types of dermatophytes?
Yes there are. In cats, there are three most common types of dermatophytes which may cause ringworm.
Microsporum gypseum (M. gypseum)
This species of ringworm is usually from dogs and cats that dig into contaminated soil.
Microsporum canis (M. Canis)
Thesource of this species of ringworm is almost always a cat &accounts for approximately 75 - 98% of ringworm seen in cats *
Trichophyton mentagrophytes
This species infects dogs and cats when they are exposed to rodents or the burrows they live in.
Microsporumcanis is the most common form of ringworm in cats. It is believed thatup to 20% of cats are asymptomatic carriers. This means that they carrythe fungus but show no signs of infection.
Are certain cats more susceptible than others?
Ringwormis more common in younger cats (under 12 months of age). This may bedue to the fact that their immune systems haven't matured fully.Immunocompromised (such as those with FIV) are also more vulnerable toringworm. Longhaired cats are also more likely to have ringworm thanshorthaired cats, as are cats under stress.
Is ringworm contagious?
Yes.Microsporum canis in particular is highly infectious. It can be passedfrom cat to cat, dog to cat, cat to dog, cat to human, human to catetc.
How does a cat become infected with ringworm?
Acat can become infected with ringworm either by direct exposure with aninfected animal or via the environment, such as contaminated bedding, grooming equipment, carpet & furniture. The spores are attached tothe hairs, which are shed into the environment & can remaininfective for up to 13 months.
How do I know if my cat has ringworm?
Themost recognised sign your cat is infected with ringworm is circularpatches of hair loss, especially around the head & limbs (althoughit can occur on other parts of the body also). Other signs are grey, patchy areas of baldness, with or without redness & itching, seborrhea sicca (a type of dandruff), dry/flaky skin, onychomycosis(infection of the claw & clawbed).
How is ringworm diagnosed?
1)Wood's Lamp: A simple way to diagnose ringworm is to use an ultravioletWood's lamp (also known as a black light) on your cat, although onlyaround 50% of ringworm strains will show up. The hair shaftswill glow a fluorescent green when exposed to a Wood's lamp.
2)Microscopic examination: For rapid diagnosis, your veterinarian maychoose to perform a microscopic examination of the hairs formicroscopic fungal pores. This method has it's pros & cons. Sporesare often difficult to see, so it is best performed by an experiencedmycologist (a botanist who specialises in the study of fungi). If thesample taken had no spores, diagnosis may not be accurate.
3)Culture: Your veterinarian may take some samples of your cat's hairfrom the infected region & growing them in a lab on a specialculture which enhances fungal growth. The benefit ofperforming a fungal culture is that the lab will be able to diagnosethe exact species of fungus. It will take around 10 days to perform theculture.
4) Biopsy: Sometimes if the lesions look uncharacteristic a biopsy will be performed.
What are the treatments for ringworm?
Onceyour cat has been diagnosed with ringworm you will have to treat boththe cat & the environment. If you live in a multiple cat household, all cats in your home will need to be treated. Carefully follow theinstructions on the packet & or by your veterinarian when treatingyour cat. In healthy cats, ringworm will often resolve itself in 2 - 4months. However, it is recommended you treat your cat for ringworm tospeed up the process & prevent infection of humans & other pets.
Shampoos/Dipsime sulfur dips are the most effective. Sometimes clipping the cat(especially longhaired cats) is recommended to increase theeffectiveness of treatment & also decrease environmentalcontamination. The cat must not be allowed to lick it's coat before itdries as this can cause vomiting. Bathing should be done every 4 - 6days for approximately 2 - 4 weeks. Lime sulfur dips can causeyellowing of the coat, this however will fade in time.
