Home Ministry officer arrested on suspicion of embezzling more than RM200,000
A Home Ministry officer was arrested by police recently for allegedly embezzling more than RM200,000 of public funds. The Malaysian Insider learnt that the 36-year-old woman was attached to the ministry's Film Control and Enforcement division. "The suspect was a frontline officer who dealt with film distributors applying for a Certificate 'B' from the ministry," a senior police officer said. Under Malaysian law, films that have been viewed, censored and considered suitable for screening by the National Censorship Board are issued a Censorship Certificate (Certificate ‘A’). Copies of films to be screened and distributed to the public are issued a copy of the Censorship Certificate (Certificate 'B'). Under normal procedure, the applicant will meet an officer and fill up the application form before being issued a payment form.
