McLaren ‘bubble’ nose test-only component
McLaren has confirmed to GPUpdate.net that its new-look ‘bubble’ nose cone is a test-only component, with the part being used at the Circuit de Catalunya by Jenson Button on Tuesday. Furthermore, the Woking squad has also verified that it will not be able to make use of the innovation at any point during the season.
The verification confirms that the bubble-shaped nose, which was first used by Button shortly before 10am today, is a test-only part – housing additional amounts of measuring equipment – which would be illegal to use at any point across a Grand Prix 'event', ruling out the possibility of Friday and Saturday practice sessions.
FIA Sporting Regulations, Article 2.2:
‘Event means any event entered into the FIA Formula One Championship Calendar for any year commencing at the scheduled time for scrutineering and sporting checks and including all practice and the race itself.’ |
