What's common between 1942 - A LOVE STORY and EKLAVYA?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, January 16, 2007]
Vidhu Vinod Chopra made an epic called 1942 - A LOVE STORY way back in 1994. And now he is back with yet another epic of monumental stature - EKLAVYA - THE ROYAL GUARD. So what's common between the two films?
Well, apart from the obvious wide canvas look and multi starcast that both the films boast, there is also a commonality between the lead heroines of the film. This is because both Manisha Koirala [1942 - A LOVE STORY] and Vidya Balan [EKLAVYA], who play small town women in the respective films, share a common name - RAJJO!
A mere coincidence? Certainly not, especially with VVC at the helm who has more often than not given his heroines a meaty role to play, whether it is Madhuri Dixit [PARINDA] or Neha [KAREEB].
While Manisha's performance in 1942 - A LOVE STORY ranks amongst her Top-5 performances ever, one expects the same from Vidya too who now even shares the character's name. |

Eklavya - The biggest of all this February
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, January 17, 2007]
As the rush intensifies for the release of films this February, Big B centric 'Eklavya - The Royal Guard' stands out as the biggest and most expensive of them all.
Coming in the middle of the month [February 16th], it may clash with Sunny Deol's 'Big Brother' which again has it's budget in a high range, though not as much as 'Eklavya'.
Other than these two films, the other films arriving in February are 'Traffic Signal' [February 2nd], 'Black Friday' & 'Red' [both February 9th], '1:40 Ki Last Local', 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd.' & 'Just Married' [February 23rd] and have their budgets set in the medium range. 'Nishabd' and 'Provoked' are the other confirmed release of February but are relatively smaller when compared to 'Eklavya'.
The way 'Eklavya' is promoted at the moment; it seems quite obvious that it would arrive with a bang at the theatres. Now it has to be seen if the publicity and hype amount to great box office collections for the film too! |

Black Friday promo stuns all
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, January 17, 2007]
3 more weeks to go and finally 'Black Friday' would be hitting the marquee after being banned for around 2 years.
Promotion of the film has finally begun with the theatrical promo being on along with the screening of 'Guru' at select theatres. By the look of things, Anurag Kashyap has a definite winner in hands since it truly comes across as a hard-hitting film, as always maintained by the entire cast and crew of the film.
Along with some stark and intense shots from the film with acid-laden dialogues, what takes the cake is sheer realism fused with high entertainment qoutient that makes one eagerly look forward to the film.
Starring Kay Kay Menon, Pawan Malhotra and Aditya Srivastava in the lead, 'Black Friday' releases on February 9th. For starters, the film is Anurag Kashyap's much cherished dream of showcasing on the big screen the series of events that happened on Friday, 12th March, 1993.
This is a day which shook the world when bombings took place in Mumbai and hence is considered as a black spot in the history of India. |

It takes two to TANGO - Ask Abhay and Minisha!
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, January 17, 2007]
Abhay Deol and Minisha Lamba are having a ball. And why not? After all they come together to do a TANGO, a dance form that is quite common in Hollywood flicks but a rarity when it comes to Hindi films.
Titled 'Pyaar Ki Yeh Kahani', the dance number is a beautiful piece of composition by Vishal-Shekhar which boasts of some mesmerizing choreography. Minisha looks a million bucks while dancing up, close and personal with Abhay while the party setting just sets the pace for the film which revolves around 6 honeymoon couples out on a package tour.
A musical piece that is quite an eye candy on screen, it would surely be one of the prime highlights of the film when it releases all over on February 23rd. |
