Vieira: Arsenal still the great entertainers
December 20, 2007

Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira admits Arsenal remain the great entertainers.
The former Gunners captain said: "Arsene (Wenger) has done some great things and the players are responding to him at the moment. "When I left, (Cesc) Fabregas had the chance to be selected. And he has since blossomed. "Titi (Henry) has left and (Emmanuel) Adebayor has never scored so many goals. (Robin) van Persie also feels he is like a leader now. In my time, we had a great team. We played well and were physically strong. But this current team plays better football than in our day. "Whether that means they are going to win something is another story. But whatever happens, Arsenal are one of the two or three teams in Europe who play the best football."

Ramos: Spurs not at Arsenal level
December 20, 2007

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos admits they're not ready to compete with tomorrow's opponents Arsenal. Ramos said: "Now is not the time to compare us with them. We are not going into this game in normal conditions. We had a game two days ago and we have players suspended, injured and unavailable. "Arsenal played in midweek - but not with their usual players. They will play with their strongest side on Saturday."

Toure: Arsenal fear no-one in Europe
December 20, 2007

Arsenal defender Kolo Toure says they fear no-one left in the Champions League.
"Definitely we are prepared for any team that we come up against," he told Arsenal.com. "We have done so well since the start of the season. There is no team that will think they can beat us and it will be easy.
"The strongest part of us at the moment is that we are strong together and especially at home we don't give away anything. "This stage of the Champions League is always tight because we play away and home but whatever happens we are really confident. "We have lost some games but all the teams in Europe have lost games. I think the main thing is to be confident when the time comes. "At the moment we feel really strong. The squad is confident and we are winning the big games, like against Chelsea. We just need to believe in our skills and believe in what we are doing, the job we do and the belief the manager gives us and the way he teaches us to play. We must be focused on that and we can get through any team. It will be really hard but we are confident."

Van Persie: Arsenal fans want us to beat Spurs
December 20, 2007

Robin van Persie knows Arsenal fans are desperate to beat Tottenham tomorrow.
"When I see the fans in the street, they tell me that the Tottenham game is the one they want us to win," he told Arsenal.com. "It means so much for these people, whether they are at the training ground, or when I am out shopping. It doesn't matter where, everyone speaks about this game. It means a lot. "You can sense there is a special atmosphere. It is similar to the games against Chelsea and Manchester United in terms of atmosphere and that's what I like the most. "I just love to play those games when the fans are on top of it, they are loving it and every single piece of action in the game gets the fans involved. It's great to be a part of it."

Lehmann: I get angry seeing Almunia in Arsenal goal
December 20, 2007

Jens Lehmann admits he gets 'angry' when he watches Manuel Almunia in the Arsenal goal.
The veteran German has lost his place to Almunia this season and has started just one game for the Gunners since August. He has recently admitted that he is prepared to stay at Emirates Stadium, despite fears for his place in the Germany side for Euro 2008. However, Lehmann concedes that he is still frustrated by the situation and has suggested manager Arsene Wenger treats his goalkeeping rival differently. "My coach confirmed my impression that he uses a different measuring stick to evaluate Almunia," Lehmann told Kicker magazine. "For me this was a disappointment. "It's very frustrating. When I see the performances on the field, I get angry and I have to clench my fist in my pocket."

Vieira can understand Diarra's Arsenal frustration
December 20, 2007

Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira can understand Lassana Diarra's frustrations at Arsenal.
"How your career turns out depends on the choices you make," the former Gunners captain told L'Equipe. "When you leave Chelsea for Arsenal, you aren't guaranteed to play more. At the moment in their midfield, even Gilberto, who is sometimes captain of Brazil, is on the bench. "He (Diarra) really wants to play, and that is normal. At that age, I was the same. When you make the France team, when you are involved in that squad, you start to have goals. "But when you decide to go to Arsenal, it is difficult. He must simply make the right choice, that is all."

Spurs to bid for Arsenal's Diarra
December 20, 2007

Tottenham are planning a bid for Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra - less than six months after he quit Chelsea.
The Guardian says Diarra alerted a host of clubs, including Lyon in his native France, when he revealed his determination to quit Arsenal just four months after joining them from Chelsea. Damien Comolli, the Tottenham sporting director and Diarra's compatriot, knows the midfielder's representatives and will look into signing him for Juande Ramos, the club's new manager. Ramos would like fresh blood in defensive midfield. Fifa's transfer regulations state that a player "is only eligible to play in official matches for two clubs" in the period from 1 July to 30 June of the following year but they may be registered for "a maximum of three clubs". Diarra came on for Chelsea as a substitute in the Community Shield against Manchester United on August 5 but he did not play for them again before his transfer to Arsenal on August 31. The Football Association confirmed last night that the Community Shield was not an official first-team game.

Carling Cup - Fabianski fires Almunia warning
Eurosport - Thu, 20 Dec 16:38:00 2007
Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has declared his intent to win the number one jersey off Manuel Almunia. The Polish youngster is number three behind Spaniard Almunia and Jens Lehmann but has been preferred to the out-of-favour Germany veteran for the Carling Cup matches this season. And Fabianski is determined to use Arsenal's good run in this competition to good effect, laying down the gauntlet to the former Murcia shot-stopper.
"Games like the one against Blackburn show that I want to become the Arsenal's first choice goalkeeper," he told Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza after the 3-2 Carling Cup quarter final win. "It is now certain that I will start for the rest of the Carling Cup.
"This is my cup, my competition and we have a great chance to win it. Our team in the Carling Cup is young and does not have a lot of experience but we are all very ambitious and want to prove ourselves."
Fabianski also spoke of his desire to play Tottenham in the semi finals - which has been realised with the draw pairing the North London rivals - and is eyeing a first team berth in their upcoming FA Cup campaign.
"We will start our participation in the FA Cup on January 6th but the boss has not decided yet who will be the first choice goalkeeper in the competition," he continued.
"What is the difference between sitting on the bench and being a third choice goalkeeper? Both are not something to be proud of.
"The fact that the coach is fielding me as a starter in [the Carling Cup] shows that he has trust in me."
Arsenal face Spurs in the semi final in the second week of January, two and a half weeks after hosting them in the Premier League this coming Saturday.

Premier League - Djourou set for Arsenal return
Eurosport - Thu, 20 Dec 11:20:00 2007

Johan Djourou is to be recalled to Arsenal in the New Year in order to bolster the Gunners' defence. Defender Djourou, 20, has spent the first four months of the season on loan at Birmingham City, and has been one of the Blues' outstanding players during that time. Now Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is recalling the Switzerland international in order to add to his defensive options, as centre back Kolo Toure will leave for the African Cup of Nations in January.
Birmingham manager Alex McLeish said: "Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told me he is taking him back in January.
"He will be a loss, for sure. It is disappointing that he is not going to be with us for much longer.
"You have to respect Arsenal's decision.
"Johan is a big presence of a boy, no doubt about that, and those kind of players seem to be a feature of many a squad in the Premier League."
Djourou had previously stated his intention to return to Arsenal, saying: "Obviously I love my club Arsenal and if they want me back, hopefully it will be for a good reason."
