Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will pay an official visit to Japan from October 9 to October 12, 2017. Japan is the world’s third-largest economy, so an important trading partner for Denmark, and the two nations celebrate 150 years of diplomatic relations this year.

This year, Denmark and Japan celebrate 150th anniversary of start of their diplomatic relations. On the occasion of that anniversary, the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess visits Japan between 8 and 12 October and will be responsible for business and cultural events there. On the first day of the visit, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary are welcomed by Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako on arrival at Chiyoda Palace Hotel in Tokyo. Then, the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess attended Denmark Festival and Walkathon held with the cooperation of ECCO Japan and Novo Nordisk in Tokyo.

On the second day of Japan visit, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary visited Kanazawa. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended a breakfast event with Kanazawa City Deputy Mayor at the Tsubajin Restaurant in Kanazawa. Then, the Crown Couple attended a guided tour through at Kenroku-en Park in Kanazawa. Next, the Couple visited the exhibition Everyday Life - Signs of Awareness held at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art in Kanazawa.

On the 3rd day of Crown Princess Mary's and Crown Prince Frederik's visit to Japan, Princess Mary visited Funabashi Andersen Park and was welcomed by Funabashi mayor Mr. Toru Matsudo. The Crown Princess visited Nordic Fair at HC Andersen Park. Nordic Fair gets inspiration from traditional Danish Christmas bazaars. She planted trees with mayor of Funabashi there and visited Fairy Tale Pavilion.

The Crown Princess visited Children Museum and saw the nebuta which is a large paper lantern and which has been designed as the ship of Rasmus Klump. Afterwards, the artist Mr. Shunichi Kitamura made a presentation of the work.

On the 4th day of Japan visit, Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark attended the opening of Business promotional campaign at Gajoen Hotel in Tokyo. The objective of the opening is to welcome the Danish business delegation. Then, the Crown Princess attended opening of "The Design Lounge". Crown Princess Mary also attended the event "Danish Design DNA: Towards a New Leadership Model". Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko held a lunch at Imperial Palace for Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.

Christmas seals are specially designed seals that are launched for charity intended programs at Christmas season every year and sold in Denmark in addition to Christmas stamps. Crown Princess Mary is the patron of Christmas Seal Foundation (Julemaerkehjem).
