Inter 1-1 AC Milan: El Shaarawy and Schelotto exchange strikes in absorbing derby clash The Nerazzurri rode their luck at times in the first half, but were able to fight back after the break to earn a share of the spoils, and keep their CL qualification hopes alive
Inter and AC Milan battled to a 1-1 draw during a crucial Derby della Madonnina clash in Serie A at San Siro on Sunday.
Stephan El Shaarawy's razor-sharp finish opened the scoring for the Rossoneri who should have been out of sight by half time, but wasted a number of chances, with Mario Balotelli particularly at fault for a few glaring misses.
And with 19 minutes remaining, the Nerazzurri would make them pay for their profligacy, when substitute Ezequiel Schelotto powered in a header to ensure that his side would take home a share of the spoils, which leaves them one point behind Milan in third place.
Ricky Alvarez was handed a surprise start in midfield, with Yuto Nagatomo and Walter Gargano also stepping into the side. For Milan, Balotelli, ineligible during the Champions League midweek, returned to displace Giampaolo Pazzini against his former club.
The first half belonged to the Rossoneri. Mattia De Sciglio’s early shot was saved before his flashed cross found Balotelli unmarked yards from goal, but the forward’s first touch let him down badly, and allowed Samir Handanovic to claim, when he should have had no chance.
It was a golden opportunity wasted, but Milan, who were bettering their rivals in all areas of the pitch, would make no such mistake with their next opening 21 minutes in.
Sulley Muntari did excellently to win the ball and feed Kevin-Prince Boateng, who slipped in the sprinting El Shaarawy between two defenders for a thunderous finish into the corner.
Inter, abject up front and shambolic at the back, were hanging on for dear life, and indeed, owed a lot of debt to Handanovic for keeping them in the contest.
The Slovenian was at his very best to tip away a Balotelli header from point-blank range before standing tall to deny the 22-year-old a tap-in from inside the six-yard area.
Minutes before the interval, Handanovic won the battle against Balotelli yet again, reacting well to thwart the striker’s 30-yard free-kick as the Nerazzurri somehow ended the first half only a goal down.
It took Andrea Stramaccioni’s men the best part of an hour to get their first real chance on goal. Rodrigo Palacio’s superb cross was met with conviction by Fredy Guarin, but Christian Abbiati did excellently to save, with Antonio Cassano striking the rebound onto the post.
Handanovic did well to touch a cross away from the onrushing Balotelli, as Milan looked to regain their first-half dominance. But instead, with 19 minutes remaining, Inter found a way back into the match.
Nagatomo sent an in-swinging cross into the area where Schelotto, only on as a substitute for three minutes, rose highest to thump a punishing header past Abbiati for the equaliser.
Muntari sent a long-range piledriver whistling inches wide of the post, and Schelotto forced a good save out of Abbiati with another header, but there was no more to come, as both teams were foced to settle for a point apiece.

Pazzini brace as Milan go third
AC Milan climbed above Lazio into third place in Serie A with a comfortable win over the Biancoceleste at the San Siro.
Giampaolo Pazzini was on target twice for the Rossoneri, who played over 70 minutes with an extra man following a red card to Antonio Candreva.
Kevin-Prince Boateng also found the back of the net as Milan moved a point above their opponents and into a qualifying berth for the Champions League next season.
Milan soon made it clear they meant business when Stephan El Shaarawy tested Federico Marchetti at his near post in the fourth minute.
Moments later, El Shaarawy appeared to be fouled inside the penalty area, but the referee waved play on as the ball fell to Pazzini, but his shot was deflected off the goal line by a Lazio defender.
At the other end, Candreva teed up Sergio Floccari, who gave Abbiati a rare touch of the ball with a weak shot from 15 yards, but Milan were soon back on the attack again.
The only way Candreva could find to denying El Shaarawy a goalscoring opportunity was to tug his shoulder, earning a red card after the Milan striker tumbled to the deck, although the referee ignored Milan's pleas for a penalty and instead awarded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area.
It took Milan surprisingly long to make their extra man count, but they finally made the breakthrough five minutes before half time,
Pazzini, deputising for the injured Mario Balotelli, was on hand to score after the ball was touched away from El Shaarawy inside the six-yard box.
Pazzini was certainly making his presence felt, all the while giving coach Massimiliano Allegri a selection headache, and his header brought a fine one-handed save out of Marchetti, who was helpless to prevent Boateng from slotting in the loose ball to make it two just before half time.
The chances of Lazio recovering were ultimately ended on the hour mark when Stefan Radu made a hash of his clearance, presenting the ball to Pazzini who lashed it in low from 20 yards.
M'Baye Niang struck the top of the crossbar late on, but no further damage was inflicted as three goals were enough for three points.

Milan keep up the pressure
AC Milan continued their pursuit of second-placed Napoli and warmed up for next week's Champions League trip to Barcelona with a hard-fought Serie A victory at relegation-threatened Genoa this evening.
Goals in either half from Giampaolo Pazzini and substitute Mario Balotelli earned the Rossoneri all three points, despite a red card for visiting defender Kevin Constant.
That was not the game's only controversy, with the hosts demanding two penalties in the first half, but Massimiliano Allegri's side held on to secure the three points at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
M'Baye Niang had the first chance to put the visitors in front, but Genoa goalkeeper Sebastien Frey was equal to his attempt.
A foul by Daniele Portanova on Pazzini then saw the Genoa defender booked. The Milan striker limped on, with Balotelli told to warm up on the touchline.
Before the substitution could be carried out, though, Pazzini managed to put his side ahead with a powerful shot which went in off the underside of the crossbar.
His celebration towards the Genoa fans did not go down too well, but the home fans were soon more disillusioned when the referee did not award a spot-kick after the ball struck Niang's arm inside the penalty area.
A push on Andreas Granqvist shortly after was also missed by the officials, further infuriating the home faithful.
That frustration turned to disbelief when Cesare Bovo's direct free-kick hit the post for the luckless hosts.
Ciro Immobile was introduced in place of Mattia Cassani on the hour mark by Genoa coach Davide Ballardini as he searched for a goal, which came within seconds of the former Pescara forward's introduction - but at the other end.
A misplaced pass by Immobile set up the Milan attack, which was finished by Balotelli, who left Frey no chance with his instant, diagonal shot.
Tempers flared soon after with Constant picking up his second yellow card after a clash with Bovo.
The home side had a few chances to reduce the deficit, with Granqvist moving into a more advanced position to give even more weight to their attack.
However, despite their best efforts, they were unable to find a route back into the game and they remained just five points above the drop zone, while Milan climbed to within two points of Napoli ahead of their clash at Chievo on Sunday. - ESPNsoccernet |

kali terakhir Milan menang di Nou Camp ialah 13 tahun yg lalu.. zaman2 costacurta, fernando redondo dok main lagi... dan barca dibintangi oleh kapten guardiola, rivaldo dan xavi yg masih muda remaja baru tumbuh bulu kaki...
Barca 0 - 2 Milan.. gol2 oleh Francesco Coco dan Olivier Bierhoff..
dan lepas 2000 Milan hanya draw 2 kali dan kalah 2 kali di Nou Camp... kali terakhir tahun lepas kena 3-1...
manakala kali terakhir tim italy berjaya menang di nou camp ialah pada tahun 2003 apabila tim merah jambu/fuschia menang 2 - 1
