Ayala to make Villarreal switch

Roberto Ayala will join Villarreal in the summer after agreeing a three-year deal.

Ayala, 33, will be out of contract with Los Che at the end of the season. He has been instrumental in Valencia's successes since joining the club in 2000, including two Liga titles and the UEFA Cup.

Ayala also helped them to the UEFA Champions League final in successive seasons during the early part of his Mestalla career.

However, the club's hierarchy had refused to discuss a new deal for the sweeper and so he has decided to make the short move to Villarreal, the small-town club that hail from the Valencia region.

On Wednesday evening Ayala is expected to become Argentina's most-capped player, with 107 to his name if selected against France.

Valencia are currently third in the Spanish top division, while Villarreal - who have become a safe haven for many players formerly at traditionally bigger clubs - are mid-table.

Valencia After Chivu To Replace Ayala

Los Che are said to be concentrating their efforts on Roma defender Christian Chivu, as they look to replace the departing Roberto Ayala ahead of next season.
The Romanian international has been in fine form for Roma over the last eighteen months, and is being targeted by Valencia sporting director Amedeo Carboni after Ayala's confirmed departure.

Carboni's weakness for the Calcio is well known, and while some of his Serie A imports might not have cut it with coach Quique Sanchez Flores, it appears as if the duo are in agreement this time.

Valencia have already played Roma thrice this season, first in a pre-season friendly in August, and twice in the Champions League, and Flores has been impressed with what he has seen, particularly a good sense of positioning. A summer move is now being sized up.

Chivu has been linked with other Spanish clubs in the recent past, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid rumoured to be interested in his services at one point or another.

Roma have so far managed to successfully fend off any swoops for a player they consider to be one of their prized assets, particularly as the player himself has been happy at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, the Romanian is out of contract next summer, and unless there is a new agreement, the Giallorosi will be forced to consider bids to avoid the risk of losing him for free.

It is understood that Barcelona and Real Madrid could also come back in should he become available.

nih ade ulasan skit ttg cara valencia main..

Giving the ball awayAh the kiss of death! You may recall that in last week's column a certain reference was made to the excellent form of Valencia, how they were difficult to beat, how their main men were coming into form, how they might well go on to win the league - and bang, they lose 3-0 away to Getafe. Inter Milan, their rivals in the next stage of the Champions League, will be sitting down to watch selected highlights of the game quite soon, one imagines.

Crestfallen: Valencia were humbled by Getafe

It's interesting that Valencia have been drawn against Inter, since the former have often been accused of a catenaccio mentality above and beyond the call of duty - a rather odd assessment of a side when you look at it on paper, and you see Spain's two best wingers (on their day), Joaqu韓 and Vicente, and Spain's most complete footballing forward, David Villa.
But maybe their instincts are just too pragmatic. Historically speaking, the problem is that the famous exponent of defensive tedium, Hector C鷓er, was one of the managers who put Valencia back onto the map in the late 1990's, with some help from Claudio Ranieri too. B閚itez reaped the harvest, but he did it in a more attractive style (just). But it was ironic that in 2002 C鷓er's Inter knocked Valencia out of the UEFA Cup, and the following season sent them tumbling from the Champions League in a display of cynicism worthy of an X-rating.
The present incumbent, Quique S醤chez Flores, seems to have caught the bug. Last week in a press conference, he was asked to comment on the team's tactics after their defeat of Atl閠ico Madrid. Weren't they a little dull? S醤chez Flores shrugged. 'We decided to give them the ball,' he explained. 'Then when they ran out of ideas, we pounced'. I remember people hating Leeds United back in the 1970's because, like an irate pensioner in the garden, they never gave you the ball back; but the idea that the opposite approach can actually become the tactical game plan seems a bit odd - especially when you look at the all-round quality of the squad.
A slightly more generous interpretation of this issue came from one Spanish journalist this week who wrote that Valencia 'Spend the first twenty minutes or so just watching what their opponents can or can't do with the ball, then move in for the kill'. Which is exactly what they did against Getafe, only to miss two easy chances towards the end of the first half. After that, Getafe simply turned the tables on them after they'd scored their first - sitting back and inviting them forward then hitting them on the break. Touch

Barca crash to Che defeat

Barcelona's problems deepened as the Spanish and European champions slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla on Sunday. Miguel Angulo opened the scoring for Valencia just after the half time break and Silva soon made it two before Ronaldinho snatched a late consolation for Barca.

The win pushes Valencia ahead of Real Madrid into third place and Barca remain top, but the loss handed a real chance to Sevilla to cut the gap to just three points. Sevilla play Atletico Madrid in the late kick off.

It was billed as the biggest game of the Spanish season so far by the local media, but the fixture - which usually produces goals galore - at a soggy Mestalla threatened to somewhat fittingly become a bit of a damp squib
