ARSENE WENGER is set to pick the youngest team in Arsenal’s history for tonight’s Sheffield United Carling Cup clash.

Even Theo Walcott, 19, will be rested as Wenger prepares to play up to EIGHT teenagers including Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong, 16.

Gunners boss Wenger confirmed: “There is a possibility it will be the youngest team I have ever selected.

“In the first team, we already have many players around the age of 20. At Arsenal you can say they are the experienced players.

“We will keep a few of those in the side for the Carling Cup but the majority of the team will be between 16 and 19.

“You’re likely to see Gavin Hoyte, Abu Ogogu, Aaron Ramsey, Mark Randall, Jack Wilshere, Fran Merida and Carlos Vela.

“Lukasz Fabianski, Alex Song and Johan Djourou will provide the experience and maybe Nicklas Bendtner will also play.

“But we will also have players like Emmanuel Frimpong and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in the squad, so it will be a very young side.”
Youngest

Wilshere became Arsenal’s youngest first-team player when he came on as a sub in the 4-0 win at Blackburn aged 16 years 266 days.

Wenger added: “I am really looking forward to this match and think it’s very, very interesting.

“We cannot play without anyone who has played at the top level and those players can show the route forward to the younger players coming through.

“It’s a good opportunity for us to develop an important asset and give a chance to young players.

“It’s always an adventure for a young group together.

“They can give us a view of how life at Arsenal could be in three to five years.”

The likely starting XI will have a combined age of 209 — average 19 — with keeper Fabianski the veteran at 23.

Wenger is particularly looking forward to seeing the full debut of Mexican international Vela, 19, who finally joined the squad in the summer after two seasons on loan in Spain.

He said: “I worked very hard to get Vela here and he has done well.

“He will certainly have a full game against Sheffield United.”

Swiss star Djourou signed a new four-year deal yesterday, while left-back Gael Clichy is fine after his collision with Bolton’s Kevin Davies on Saturday.

Wenger said: “We hope he can play on Saturday.”

aku paling teruja nak tengok wilshere, fran merida, jay thomas main... mesti gempak punya..ramsey mesti tunjuk taring.. bendtner dan vela akan score nanti. silap-silap si Alex Song main CB dengan Djourou kot. tang Agogo dengan G.Hoyte main gopoh sikit..

Fabregas - 5 - Nothing really. No key passes, no setting up, no shots. Felt like he played as DM n Denilson as AM. but good job mopping up the field.

Eboue - 6 - Main kiri?? i think he was offside for d goal. starting to show his attacking prowes by getting into the box more often.

ermm... kiri? he did a good job.. even bukan his natural side..

Song - 7 - Really solid. He's similar to Petit. But still rough. nice shot at goal. Hit the post too! He n denilson should fight it out for the DM position.

Walcott - 7 - Changed the game instantly when he came on. Good vision to see Ade to set up the 3rd. Should've passed to Ade in d final minutes, but that shows he's getting more confident.

I noticed in d previous threads that some of u are dissing Gallas n Eboue in particular. hey, lets give them some credit eh? Its early season, so keep the knives n pitchforks until later kay...
