Kidd joins Man City project
Brian Kidd has returned to Manchester City as technical development manager at the club's academy.
His brief will be to coach both the talented youngsters coming through Platt Lane and also head up the in-service training of the staff.
Kidd spent last season at Portsmouth, where along with Paul Hart they kept the club in the Barclays Premier League following the departure of Tony Adams.
City's football administration officer Brian Marwood said: "Brian has vast experience at both club and international level.
"He will help maintain the excellent development programme we have in place at the academy," stressed Marwood.
"He was much in demand when it became clear he wasn't going to stay at Portsmouth and we are delighted that Brian has chosen to come and work with us."

FIFA Confirm Manchester City Investigation Regarding Jeremy Helan - Report
Complaint made last year, according to reports...
Manchester City will now face a FIFA charge relating to their conduct in allegedly inducing talented youngster Jeremy Helan away from French club Rennes, according to Sky Sports News.
The broadcaster is also reporting that Rennes lodged their complaint against the Citizens as long ago as last spring, although the club have refuted the allegations, informing BBC Manchester that no inducements were offered to the player, and that the transfer was "totally legal".
This incident follows hard on the heels of the transfer embargo placed on Chelsea by FIFA after the game's governing body found that the Londoners signing of Gael Kakuta breached the regulations that apply to the movement of young players.
The Blues are appealing that decision, whilst Manchester United, who were reported to be interested in Helan before he opted to join City, yesterday declared that they were prepared to take legal action to defend themselves, following complaints from Le Havre that Paul Pogba was illegally induced to leave them to join the Red Devils.

Tevez to miss Gunners clash
Manchester City forward Carlos Tevez will miss Saturday's Barclays Premier League game against Arsenal, manager Mark Hughes has confirmed.
The 25-year-old picked a knee injury while on international duty with Argentina, but City hope he will ready to face Manchester United the following weekend.
"Our doctor has spoken to the Argentine medical people and the feeling is that he is out for the weekend so he will not play against Arsenal," Hughes told www.mcfc.co.uk.
"The hope is that he will be okay for the derby, but we will have to determine that when he comes back.
"He is staying with the national squad because he needs acute treatment at the early stage of the injury, which is what he can get now.
"Flying him back quickly might compromise the injury, so he will be back towards the end of the week so we can assess him and hopefully get him ready for the United game."
Robinho, who faced Tevez in Brazil's 3-1 win over Argentina on Saturday, also has a slight knock.
"It's a different situation with Robi," said Hughes. "It's an old injury that he aggravated last year, just above his ankle.
"We are going to get him back as soon as possible, the hope is that he will be an option for the weekend."
City are fourth in the Premier League having won all three of their fixtures so far this season. |

Kolo Toure Named Manchester City Captain
Toure has been confirmed as the new chief Citizen...
Mark Hughes has continued moulding Manchester City to his image by declaring that new signing Kolo Toure has been handed the full-time captaincy at Eastlands.
Previous incumbent - Richard Dunne - departed for Aston Villa at the end of the transfer window for £6 million as the remnants of the pre- Abu Dhabi era are rapidly reducing.
The vacancy was rumoured to have been otherwise contested by currently injured Vincent Kompany, Gareth Barry and City youth graduate Stephen Ireland, but Toure won his manager's vote.
Hughes told Manchester Evening News: “He has all the attributes you need to be a good captain – great enthusiasm for the game, and is nice and vocal in the dressing room and before, during and after games. And he wants to drive the club forward.
“We are very lucky to now have that mentality in our dressing room with a lot of the lads, who could all carry the mantle of being a football team captain. But Kolo is the better option for us.
“You see those qualities from afar but until you work closely with a player you don’t get inside the way he conducts himself, and how he is as a man and as a footballer.
“Having worked with him for a couple of months, he has shown good qualities on and off the field, and the qualities he has shown are the ones you can use to the benefit of everybody.
“In different dressing rooms where there are not as many strong personalities, maybe you do need a captain of real vocal authority who will have a greater impact on the group.
“Kolo certainly has that quality, but our dressing room is packed full of strong characters, guys that want to win.
“There is an obligation for a captain, certain rituals in the game which are his responsibility, and which are important. But, truth be told, the qualities for which I am looking need to be shown by more than just one person, and we have that at the moment.
“That has been a big shift in that regard in comparison to the group of players we had last year.”
The former Arsenal defender is set to lead his side out against his former club on Saturday and will be determined to vindicate Hughes' faith.
