PM Najib to announce 1Malaysia song contest winner on Aug 31

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak himself willannounce and introduce the song adjudged the winner of the 1Malaysiasong competition on Aug 31, in conjunction with the celebration of thecountry's 52nd independence anniversary.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office heretoday, audio recordings of the 10 songs shortlisted for final selectioncan now be heard on the Prime Minister's www.1Malaysia.com.my websiteand the public is invited to vote their choice through theshort-messaging service (SMS). Other avenues which will be announcedsoon.
"I encourage all Malaysians to get in to the spirit of 1Malaysia.Do visit the 1Malaysia website, listen to the songs and vote for yourfavourite.
"I want this to truly be a song from the hearts of ordinaryMalaysians, for Malaysians and chosen by the Malaysian people," saidNajib.
The idea for the competition was initiated by Najib who wanted asong that represented the spirit of 1Malaysia, that was written andchosen by the people as well as for the younger generation to thinkwhat 1Malaysia meant to them.
"I hope that this contest will inspire all of us to accept oneanother with the mutual respect that is at the heart of 1Malaysia. Letus also not forget to reflect on the struggle for Independence that ourforefathers sacrificed for.
"It is only as one united nation that Malaysia can truly succeed.We must remember that our diversity is our strenghth. This song contestis about capturing that spirit," he said.
So far, 10 finalists have reached the second round of thecompetition. A private television station taking up Najib's call forthe song received over 350 submissions, representing all of Malaysia'sdiverse communities, in just nine days.
"I am extremely happy and excited with the response. In fact, thetop 10 finalists are made up of a wonderfully diverse group that rangesfrom well-known composers to complete unknowns, covering all races,genders, age groups and backgrounds.
"The spirit of 1Malaysia is truly in the hearts of Malaysians and Ihope everyone will vote for a song they feel truly represents themeaning of 1Malaysia to them," added Najib.
The Prime Minister also urged the Malaysian media to play its role in supporting the effort to search for the winning song.
The winning composer will receive a cash prize and the song will also be made a music video. - BERNAMA |
