Winged Astros missile included in export deal, Tactical Surface-to-Surface
The winged Astros TM missile being developed by Avibras may have found its first customer. The weapon "is included in the contract for one client," says the company, which did not indicate whether this implied a firm order or a future option in a contract for unguided Astros artillery rockets.
A single Astros launch vehicle can carry two Astros TM rounds. These have fold-out wings and side inlets for an air-breathing powerplant. According to a company official who briefed Jane's Missiles & Rockets, Astros TM is powered by a solid-propellant ramjet, but this seems incompatible with the weapon's flying speed of around 200m/sec (c.Mach 0.6).
