Karan Johar as a caricature
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, February 17, 2007]
Designer Manav Gangwani considers his best friend Karan Johar as his inspiration. Besides being a designer of repute in the fashion circle, Manav is also quite adept at painting.
And since he is close to Karan Johar, he has painted a caricature of Karan as a puppeteer, sitting in a coffee mug and pulling the strings of stars like Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Saif Ali Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Preity Zinta etc. It is appropriately titled 'Koffee with Karan', which he has gifted to him.
Karan very sportingly has hung the portrait in his office. He has also done a painting called K-Mantra for the New Season of his T.V Show.
Says Manav, "Karan is a multi-faceted personality loved by all and my painting shows his universe of people close to him in a much caricatured manner. And Karan very sportingly has hung the painting in his office. He is my inspiration."
Incidentally, after creating his brand name in the fashion industry, and his trademark 'Fashion', Manav is being very selective in choosing the right director, and the right production house for his foray into designing for films.
About Manav Gangwani
Manav Gangwani is one of the most promising designers in Delhi who at a young age has taken the fashion world by storm.
Manav Gangwani's evolution has laid the foundation of a unique youthful opulence, attracting high profile celebrities such as Soha Ali Khan Pataudi, Sharmila Tagore, Ameesha Patel, Riddhima Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Pooja Batra, Zeenat Aman, Suzanne Roshan, Amar Singh, Sameera Reddy, Sridevi, Priyanka Chopra, Saif Ali Khan, Zayed Khan, Amrita Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Smita Thackeray and many more.

And now Dino Morea lip locks on screen
IndiaGlitz [Monday, February 19, 2007]
Dino Morea is all set to take over the mantle of the Best Kisser in Bollywood from Emraan Hashmi.
Insiders who have seen the rushes of the film 'BHRAM' swear that the lip lock between Dino & Supermodel turned actress Sheetal Menon is the most passionate scene ever shot in Bollywood.
Though it will be Dino's first on-screen kiss, Dino like a true blue Italian Casanova has carried it off exceptionally. The director has shot the passion play between the two beautiful people very aesthetically.
According to sources present at the shoot, though Dino was initially nervous because of his first on-screen kiss, when he started off, it turned out to be the most passionate kiss. Also, both Dino & Sheetal with their supermodel background shared a certain comfort level with each other during the shoot.
In fact it is also being reported that the chemistry between them would overshadow even Keira Knightley & Johnny Depp's kiss in 'Pirates of the Caribbean'. As the source added, "In 'BHRAM' the kiss is with a twist in the tale, which is great." When teased by the unit, Dino was at his enigmatic best. But if ever a book on best Bollywood kisses is written, Dino's act would certainly find a notable mention. |

"Have you ever heard an actor say - I hate my co-star?" - Salman Khan
IndiaGlitz [Monday, February 19, 2007]
When Salman Khan is in mood to give quotable quotes, there is no one better than him. This is why his interviews make for a great copy and are loved by the readers all over.
In one such quirky mood, he was simply holds-no-bar in a recent interview. On being told that his co-stars like Preity Zinta and Rani Mukherjee couldn't stop raving about him, he said he would believe so if the ladies said the same on candid camera.
His logic was that stars are required to promote a film and they抣l obviously say pleasant things about their co-stars. He also questioned if any actor would say, "I hate my co-star. He抯 an idiot"? Nevertheless, he concluded that even he was fond of Preity and Rani and the feeling was mutual.
Getting nostalgic, he also shared a hitherto unknown fact about his younger days. Apparently he along with Chunkey Pandey and Sajid Khan attended Daisy Irani抯 acting school for a month but the lady had to shut down the school after some time.
Reason? On the first day, the trio were given a two page long speech from 'Pyaasa' which none of them could ever get right. That too even after seeing the film about 10 times. Later she did complain that 揟um logon ka kya hoga, meri acting school bandh karwah doge. |

Saif Ali Khan hospitalised - Fine now
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, February 19, 2007]
Saif Ali Khan was admitted to a hospital at Mumbai on Sunday evening after he felt unwell while rehearsing for Stardust awards ceremony.
He complained of chest pain following which he was immediately shifted to the ICU of Leelavati Hospital. An angiography was later conducted on him and doctors gave him a clean chit.
His sister Soha Ali Khan addressed the media late in the night and said that everything was fine with him and there were no reasons to worry. Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, with whom Saif has just starred in 'Eklavya', also added that doctors had confirmed that he was out of danger and should be out of hospital in a couple of days.
Apart from mother Sharmila Tagore and girl friend Rosa, well wishers who arrived at the hospital were Rosa, Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Govinda, Pradeep Sarkar, Subhash Ghai, Zayed Khan, Aishwarya Rai, Preity Zinta, Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora, Fardeen Khan, Amrita Arora, Farhan Akhtar, Sudhir Mishra, Bunty Walia and Ken Ghosh amongst others.
Apparently the 36 year old National Award winner actor hadn't slept for 3 consecutive nights due to his hectic schedule. He had returned from South Africa only a night back and was fatigued. Due to his sudden illness, he couldn't be on stage to collect his award for "Best Negative Character" for the film 'Omkara'. |

Big B, John in Deepa Mehta's next film
IANS
Posted Monday , February 19, 2007 at 14:07
Updated Monday , February 19, 2007 at 14:33
Mumbai: After Mira Nair's Shantaram, Amitabh Bachchan has now agreed to work with Deepa Mehta in her next film Exclusion.
Deepa, who sneaked into Mumbai for just a day for a series of press conferences promoting her Oscar-nominated film Water, found time to meet up with Amitabh Bachchan at his office Janak to ink a deal.
"Amitabh and I met in Toronto when he was there to promote Karan Johar's film (Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna). I was there with Water. He was interested in Exclusion. Now we met again at his office on Friday and he has said yes. I'm too delighted for words. It's been a dream to direct him," she said.
It looks like the Bollywood icon's earlier stance on the redundancy of an international career is going for a toss. Whether he wants it or not, international filmmakers are ready to take his stardom to the West in a big way.
Earlier titled Kamagata Maru, Exclusion is the true-life tale of a ship that took a group of Indians to the shores of Canada in the early part of the 19th century. But they were not allowed to enter the country.
It is described as one of the most notorious "incidents" in the history of exclusion laws in Canada and the US designed to keep out immigrants of Asian origin.
The film will feature Bachchan alongside John Abraham. It's like a double whammy for Deepa.
She has managed to rope in one of the most sought after actors for her film and Water, about the plight of the widows in the pre-independence era, is set to hit the Indian marquees on March 9. John, Lisa Ray and Seema Biswas play the lead roles in the film, which was shot in Sri Lanka. |

Very secret meeting with Big B
By Subhash K Jha
Deepa Mehta sneaked into Mumbai for just one day for a series of press conferences promoting Water which finally releases in India on 9 March. But she found time to meet up with the Big B at his office Janak to ink a deal.
Yes, Deepa and the Big B are working together!
It looks like Mr Bachchan's earlier stance on the redundancy of an international career is going for a toss. Whether he wants it or not, international filmmakers are ready to take his awesome stardom to the West in a big way.
After Mira Nair who signed him for her Hollywood opus Shantaram, it's Deepa who has roped in the mighty Bachchan for Exclusion. Earlier entitled Kamagata Maru, this true-life tale of a ship that took a group of illegal Indians to the shores of Canada in the early part of the 19th century, will feature the Big B alongside John Abraham.
Says Deepa, "Mr Bachchan and I met in Toronto when he was there to promote Karan Johar's film ( Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna). I was there with Water. He was interested in Exclusion. 'I Honeymooned in Maldives'
By Subhash K Jha
Iqbal Khan and his newly-married spouse Sneha are technically back from their honeymoon. But they continue to be in the honey-mode.
"We make it a point to watch at least one film every day in the theatre. And if not in the theatre then we watch a DVD. Both Sneha and I have become diehard movie buffs," Iqbal says affectionately.
"Marriage so far has been an extended honeymoon. There were no adjustments with with each other or our families since we've known each other for years now."
Iqbal and Sneha's first post-marriage Valentine this month was a unique experience. "We were caught in a traffic jam for hours. So we spent our Valentine's Day trapped in the traffic. No sweat, as long as as we were together."
Shocking as it may sound, Iqbal Khan chose not to honeymoon at any of those exotic spots that his wife selected on the net.
Reason? "I wasn't sure I'd get a visa for any of those countries. After the experience I went through some months ago who knows how the immigration authorities would've reacted to my name," laughs the affable TV superstar, referring to his humiliating experience with the American consulate which rejected his visa plea some months ago arguing that his name suggested terrorist links.
"I'd rather not think about these things. There're enough holiday spots in our own country for my wife and me. We had a week of bliss in the Maldives. And our honeymoon is still on since I'm not working.
But I'm working out rigorously. Lately I had put on a lot of weight. Now when I return viewers will see the taut character Angad that they saw in Kyun Hota Hai Pyarr when I first appeared on television,"
Iqbal who left Ekta Kapoor's Balajee Telefilms in December has yet to make up his mind about his next work move. "I've had very tempting offers from Zee, Sony and Star. But I've said no to all of them. I don't want to go back to doing the same thing. Whatever I do has to be a step forward." |

"Mithoon is a phenomenal composer" - Pritam
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, February 20, 2007]
In an industry where it is rare for one artist to be saying great things about another, it comes as a pleasant surprise to see hot-n-happening Pritam singing praises about new entrant Mithoon who has just got an award for the BEST DEBUTANT COMPOSER (2006) for his score of BAS EK PAL.
Currently humming the songs of ANWAR, Pritam said, "I am hooked on to 'Maula Mere' for weeks now. Mithoon has created such great music that comes with an intense spiritual appeal. Just a couple of films old and what range! Look at 'Tere Bin' and 'Maula Mere'. They are simply superb. Mithoon is indeed a phenomenal singer and would go a long way."
From Pritam who has himself come a long way since the days of 'Tere Liye', debut film of Sanjay 'Dhoom' Gadhvi, this is quite a compliment to cherish for Mithoon. |
