On tour with the LFC Masters in Malaysia
The Masters have returned to the hotel just in time to catch Liverpool’s clash with West Brom back home. It’s been a great first day in Kuala Lumpur, and once again we’ve been left staggered by the sheer fervour for LFC in this part of the world. Thanks to everyone we encountered tonight for being so friendly and helpful. Goodnight and well done Reds once again!
Fowler lifts the trophy for Liverpool and the Kopites inside the arena go wild. The players then embark on a lap of honour as they’re serenaded by You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Robbie Fowler has not only been named as the competition’s top goalscorer with 13 goals, but he was also elected the player of the tournament, and is presented with two trophies.
Champions! Liverpool have clinched the 2012 Standard Chartered Malaysian Masters with a thrilling penalty shoot-out victory over United.
A frantic game ended 4-4, with Robbie Fowler scoring his second of the game in the final five seconds to force the spot-kick drama. Earlier, God had found the back of the net to become the highest ever goalscorer in any Masters tournament.
With the penalties taking place in front of the Liverpool section, Paul Jones saved superbly from David May to hand the Reds the advantage. Berger, Fowler, Kvarme and Smicer all netted before none-other-than Stephane Henchoz stepped up to convert the final kick to clinch the trophy.
