Tan bersalah menembak mati pemilik kelab malam LELAKI bergelar 'naga mata satu', Tan Chor Jin, dijatuhi hukuman mati oleh Mahkamah Tinggi semalam setelah didapati bersalah menembak mati seorang pemilik kelab malam, tahun lalu.

Seorang jurucakap Fatah al-Islam, Abu Salim Taha, sebaliknya berkata, 'Jika tentera Lebanon meneruskan serangan, pejuang kami bersedia berjuang ke titisan darah terakhir'. - AP, AFP, Reuters, Bloomberg

BUSH MAHU WARGA AS GANTI WOLFOWITZ SEBAGAI PRESIDEN BANK DUNIA

- AP, AFP, Reuters.

POLIS, ASKAR IKRAR KHIDMAT TERBAIK

- BHM.

I keep chasing her away
By Mindy Tan

May 23, 2007

Miss Nurliana Ramlan, carrying her 4-month-old baby. She is flanked by her other daughters, aged 1 1/2 and 3.

FOR an agonising 15 hours, she waited anxiously for news of her missing baby, praying that nothing bad had befallen the 4-month-old.

Neighbours had seen two teenage girls fleeing with the baby after hearing the young mother's screams for help.

The teenagers had visited Ms Nurliana Ramlan, a 20-year-old single mother of three, at her Woodlands Circle flat last Saturday night.

Witnesses said the girls were passing the baby to and fro as they sprinted down a 500m stretch.

The girls were seen loitering suspiciously in the void deck just 10 minutes before the baby-snatching.

After 15 long hours, Ms Nurliana finally received good news. Police had found her baby unharmed in a unit in Block 65 Teban Gardens.

The two teens - a 15-year-old Secondary 3 student and a 16-year-old, believed to be a waitress, were arrested for abduction from lawful custody, a police spokesman said.

Ms Nurliana told The New Paper that the student, Jane (not her real name), had turned up uninvited at her 4-room flat around 9.45pm last Saturday.

It was Jane's third surprise visit in about three weeks.

Each time, Jane, believed to be a runaway, would insist on playing with Ms Nurliana's daughters, aged 3 years, 18 months and 4 months. She would also hang around to watch TV till late.

On Saturday, Jane showed up with another girl whom Ms Nurliana did not know.

Ms Nurliana's mother, Madam Anna, 41, a retail assistant, had taken her three-year-old granddaughter to the mosque. The rest of the family - her step-father, 36, and two siblings - were at work.

She was not thrilled by the unexpected visit but let Jane in. The other girl remained outside.

When her second child complained of a stomachache, Ms Murliana took her to the toilet, and asked Jane to feed her youungest from a milk bottle.

When she came out, her flat was unlocked and her baby and the girls were gone.

She told Lianhe Zaobao: 'When I couldn't hear my baby's cries, I knew immediately that something was wrong.

'I shouted Jane's name down the corridor but there was no reply. I took a lift down to the void deck.'

She called her mother who returned in a few minutes.

She also informed her boyfriend, Mr Salleh Roslan, 20, the NSman father of her three children (nasib baik 3 anak 1 bapak...kalau 3 anak 3 bapak??), who searched Ang Mo Kio Central where Jane was believed have been staying with a friend since she ran away from her Hillview home.

FLEEING

Jane's mother was also alerted and turned up at the void deck 30 minutes later.

Meanwhile, neighbours approached Ms Nurliana and Madam Anna, both of whom were in tears.

Housewife Rosnah Kasim, 41, who was sitting on a swing outside her ground-floor unit, saw the girls fleeing with the baby.

'They were hugging the baby very tightly. One girl in black was running across the block, holding the baby's head to her chest.

'When a voice shouted from above, she passed the baby to a girl in brown (Jane). She ran ahead while the other tried to catch up.'

Said another housewife Normala Ismail, 47: 'We noticed the two girls walking past suspiciously about 10 minutes earlier.'

While MD Firdauz, 20, took off on his motorbike for a 30-minute search around Woodlands Circle to look for the culprits, Freda Ismail, 14, followed Ms Nurliana to search the carpark.

Others, including an elderly couple from the opposite block and an elderly woman also joined in the search.

At 10.45pm, a police report was made and a search was launched.

Neighbours called off their search by 11pm (asal search 15 minit je??)and waited at the void deck till 2am for news.

After failing to find Jane, Mr Salleh returned to his home at around 3am.

While Ms Nurliana gave up waiting by 4am and went to bed, Madam Anna could not sleep the whole night.

A police spokesman said: 'Using our resources at hand, we subsequently found the baby at Block 65 Teban Gardens, at about 12.30pm on 20 May.'

According to Ms Nurliana, police located Jane through her EZ-link card.

She turned up at the Jurong Police Division at 2.30pm with her family members, milk bottle and food to feed her hungry baby, who was later cleared at a hospital checkup at 4.30pm.

The young mother befriended Jane in March at a friend's flat.

She was working as a production operator and left her baby in the care of her colleague's mother in Taman Jurong.

One day after work, Ms Nurliana and her colleague went to a friend's flat in Bukit Panjang where she met Jane. She also spoke to Jane's mother once when she turned up to look for Jane.

Since then, the mother had been calling Ms Nurliana whenever Jane went missing.

Said Ms Nurliana: 'Jane told her mother that she likes playing with my children, so she always calls me.'

She has no clue how Jane obtained her address when she first visited her on 30 Apr, and she never asked.

Jane lingered at her place till 11pm that day and had to be chased away.

Madam Anna said: 'I dislike her (Jane). She was in my house watching TV and did not want to leave. She did not acknowledge me when I returned home, nor show any respect.'

Jane turned up uninvited again early on 14 May, Ms Nurliana claimed. They did not converse much because Jane's was preoccupied with the children.

Said Ms Nurliana: 'She kept saying that she was very stressed. But I don't know what she was stressed about.'

Jane, a fair-skinned girl with chin-length hair, is understood to be an only child who had been periodically missing from home over the last few months. She is believed to have found out recently that she was adopted.

According to Ms Nurliana, Mr Salleh knew Jane separately - a fact that the young mother only found out later.

'They are friends too,' she said. entah

Man gets one year's jail for pushing girlfriend off MRT platform

SINGAPORE: The man who pushed his girlfriend onto the MRT track has been given a year's jail by a Supreme Court judge.
The sentence for 26-year-old Kwong Kok Hing is backdated to last September when he was held in police custody two days after the incident at the Clementi MRT station.

And pending an appeal by the prosecution, Kwong could soon walk free.

But if the prosecution had its way, Kwong would be behind bars much longer.

It had pressed for a deterrence sentence of three to five years.

The prosecution has 10 days to indicate if it would like to appeal.

Kwong could have been imprisoned for up to seven years.

But his earlier charge of murder had been reduced to culpable homicide when the court heard that Kwong had been suffering from depression.

His lawyers said that at the time of the incident, Kwong had been getting psychiatric treatment for 'reactive psychosis'.

He had also just started a new job which had overwhelmed him, sending him deeper into depression, paranoia and anxiety.

His parents and friends were relieved that Kwong was given a lighter sentence.

Kwong is a permanent resident from Malaysia.

His parents said they would be bringing him home to Kuala Lumpur to continue his psychiatric treatment after his release.

Shashi Nathan, Kwong's lawyer, said: "His psychiatric condition was instrumental in getting the charges reduced in the first place. Clearly it was not a situation where there was any premeditation. What happened was a split-second impulsive act. And it's unlikely to happen again. He's calmed down a lot, and he's healthier."

Kwong has also apologised to his 26-year-old ex-girlfriend Jenny Low Siew Mui over the incident.

He had pushed Jenny off the platform and into the path of an oncoming train, following a quarrel in which he refused to break up with her.

Jenny, who is also a Malaysian, managed to dash across the tracks to safety.

Kwong, who came to Singapore as an ASEAN scholar, has since promised not to hound Jenny in future.

Shashi Nathan, Kwong's lawyer, said: "We conveyed his apology by way of a letter, and she has accepted the apology. So we wanted to inform the court he's contrite, and he's genuinely remorseful for what he's done. He wants to start his life anew, he has his brother and sister, his parents to go back to. This is just a painful part of his life and he wants to put it behind and get on with his life."
