Hamilton hit with 5-place grid penalty
Lewis Hamilton will be handed a 5-place grid penalty for this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix, with the McLaren driver needing a gearbox change after just two races.
Current rules force the use of one gearbox for a total of five Grand Prix events in 2012, having previously been set at four until the end of the 2010 campaign.
"We have a gearbox issue and we will change it on Saturday morning so I will get a five-place penalty, but hopefully we will be quick enough to still move forward," Hamilton is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News in the Shanghai paddock.
Hamilton is currently second to former McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso in the drivers' standings, having claimed two pole positions and two third place finishes. |
