Info pasal Filem HOORE HOORE...
Filmmaker Saw Teong Hin turns to Sudirman’s inspiring music in his upcoming movie Hoore! Hoore! – due next year. There is one particular quote that really inspired award-winning director Saw Teong Hin, and it has rung true throughout his career. The quote belonged to the late Sudirman Haji Arshad. Saw came across the quote in one of Sudirman’s albums. It read: “Kita dalam menghadapai kehidupan jangan taruh pagar mengelilingi kita.” (Don’t chain ourselves with boundaries.) Driven by Sudirman’s wise words and inspired by musicals like High School Musical and Mamma Mia, Saw decided to merge these elements into his next movie Hoore! Hoore! – a musical using Sudirman’s songs. Paying tribute: ‘I thought it would be wonderful to use the High School Musical and Mamma Mia format to honour Sudirman,’ says Saw Teong Hin on his movie Hoore! Hoore!’
“All of Sudirman’s songs have little stories to it which we can all relate to, whether we’re Malays or non-Malays. I’ve also decided to venture into the one movie genre I’ve never tried before – a musical,” said the producer, scriptwriter and director who is known to be a perfectionist among his peers. For almost two years, he kept himself busy with research and writing the Hoore! Hoore! script with another friend, Shahriman Wahab, whose past records include writing scripts for Ngangkung, 7 Petala Cintaand Tangkal Besi. “I wanted to call it Hoore! Hoore!, not only because it is one of Sudirman’s more popular songs, but also because I like the ring to it. It is catchy and has such a positive vibe,” said Saw, who named Salam Terakhir his favourite Sudirman song. For the director, Salam Terakhir is such an emotional listening experience. “If you dig into the lyrics, it has resonance in everybody’s lives.” As he continued his research on the man, Saw was amazed to know that Sudirman has so many hits and almost all of them are popular tunes. “Sudirman is one brilliant singer/composer who had a unique style of delivering his songs. Too bad we could not feature most of them in the movie. I have only 98 minutes to tell my story, so I can only accommodate 12 songs for Hoore! Hoore! “It would be great to launch the movie with a live Sudirman ‘jukebox musical’ ... make it like his ‘greatest hits’ party,” said Saw who directed Puteri Gunung Ledang and won two awards at the Malaysian Film Festival 2005 with that movie. It was easy for Saw to use the Sudirman tunes in his upcoming film since they are entertaining and rich with meaningful lyrics. “Since I’ve always loved musicals, I thought it would be wonderful to use the High School Musical and Mahmma Mia format to honour Sudirman,” said the 49-year-old director who was born in Georgetown, Penang. The songs of the late Sudirman Haji Arshad are featured in Hoore! Hoore!
In fact, Saw is dedicating Hoore! Hoore! to the late singer, once dubbed Asia’s No.1 Entertainer. “This is a small token from a fan to a great singer. I’ve always admired him and his songs.” Hoore! Hoore! is a joint venture between Saw’s company Real Films and Astro-Shaw. It is reputed to cost RM2.1mil and is currently in the final stages of completion. The colour grading and Dolby Surround Mix was done at the Prasad lab in Chennai, India two months ago. All the 12 songs featured on Hoore! Hoore! have been rearranged by composer Audi Mok. They include Bercanda Dipasiran Pantai, Basikal Tua, Hidup Sederhana, Hoore! Hoore!, Salam Terakhir,Kasih, Milik Siapa Gadis Ini, Merisik Khabar, Ayah dan Ibu, Pelangi Petang, One Thousand Million Smiles, Anak Gembala, Terasing and Balik Kampung. “All the songs will be sung by the artistes featured in the movie and we are also including one original track, Idola, composed by Audi Mok and sung by Lan from Azlan & The Typewriter,” revealed Saw. This musical is about a plump, tudung-wearing girl named Nurul Aiman who is naive but has a good heart. She has two best friends, Lana and Azadan, and they all come from the same village and went to the same school. Lana and another friend, the gorgeous Rita, are out to get the smart and handsome Johari, who secretly admires Nurul. One day, Nurul decides to enter a beauty contest, Ratu Ayu, organised by a magazine. Feeling threatened by Nurul’s popularity, Rita goes all out to make it difficult for Nurul to win the title. “It is a simple, sweet, feel-good movie. It is about Nurul and how she achieves her dream despite the obstacles she has to face. She eventually gets her trophy and her man,” explained Saw, who used 300 extras for the street dance sequence. The cast of Hoore! Hoore! includes Akim AF7, Kilafairy, Nurfarah Nazirah, Harun Salim Bachik, Sandara, Sahronizam Noor, Aznil Nawawi, Fauziah Nawi, Nur Shazwana, Shahila Shariff, Syafiqah Jemey, Nabil Mohamad and Mohd Faiz. The movie is scheduled to be released in the middle of next year. “Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Sudirman’s passing. This movie is timely to recap all the beautiful works of the great singer.” Sudirman died at the age of 37 in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 22, 1992. Saw, who last directed the light romantic movie, Apa Kata Hati, which unfortunately did not go down well with viewers for some reason, believes that Hoore! Hoore! will appeal to the masses. “Each time you hear Sudirman’s songs, you are affected somehow. The more I listen to the songs, the more I feel for them. “I also don’t let my past records affect me too much, whether or not I’ve won an award or my movie has not made the mark, it doesn’t matter. I do my best, everything else is not up to me,” said Saw, who also plans to make a movie about family values, centring around the Penang-Hokkien heritage titled, You Mean The World To Me. |
