Andrew Garfield
The newest Spider-Man was universally praised by critics his performance as Eduardo Saverin in "The Social Network," but he was left out this morning. The only actor from the film nominated was Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg. Sorry, Justin Timberlake: You're going to have to do more work to earn that rare hat-trick-plus-one honor known as the EGOT.
"The Social Network"
For the last couple of months, the general consensus was that "The Social Network" was winning far too many critics awards -- all of them, essentially -- to be overtaken as the dominant Oscar favorite. And there it is, sitting in third place, right next to "Inception," with just eight nominations. Sure, it came away with its expected Best Picture and Best Actor nominations, but the so-called "Facebook Movie" may have a formidable opponent in "The King's Speech," after all.
Christopher Nolan
Without question, "Inception" was the morning's biggest loser. Sure, it's nominated for Best Picture, but Nolan's brain-twisting hit missed out in almost every other major category, including Best Direction. Traditionally, nominations from the Directors Guild awards lead to nominations at the Academy Awards, but tell that to Nolan, who has received a DGA nod for three films ("Memento," "The Dark Knight," and "Inception"), but has never been nominated for an Oscar.
Ryan Gosling
"The Notebook" Heartthrob-Turned-Serious-Actor dug deep into his role as the alcoholic bad husband in "Blue Valentine," but only his counterpart Michelle Williams earned an Oscar nomination. (This is somewhat surprising since Gosling was nominated for a Golden Globe for the performance.) "Blue Valentine" was one of the year's better-reviewed films, but it ended up with only one nomination -- tying for the other single-nod movies "Salt," "The Wolfman" and "Tron: Legacy."
Mila Kunis
The former "That '70s Show" star won raves (and a Golden Globe nomination) for her sultry performance as Natalie Portman's rival dancer in "Black Swan," but she didn't make the cut at the Oscars. With "True Grit"' newcomer Hailee Steinfeld added to this category -- she was a casualty of The Great True Grit Golden Globes Purge last month -- one Globe nominee had to go, and it was going to be either Kunis or Jacki Weaver of "Animal Kingdom." Kunis ended up losing out.
"Burlesque"
Sorry, Golden Globes: No nominations here, not even for Best Song.
SURPRISES
"The King's Speech" and "True Grit"
"The King's Speech," which won the Producers Guild award this weekend (and might be the new Best Picture favorite), earned a whopping 12 nominations. "The King's Speech" even received nominations for technical categories you wouldn't have expected, nailing down nominations such as Art Direction. This means the film has the wide support an Oscar-winning movie traditionally needs. Also, the theory that "True Grit" missed out on Golden Globe nominations because it screened too late for those voters has a lot of merit: It went from zero Globe nominations to 10 Oscar nominations.
John Hawkes
The former "Deadwood" star -- who had a brief cameo in the final season of "Lost" as Lennon -- shocked many by sneaking into the Best Supporting Actor category for "Winter's Bone." (He also portrays the brother of fictional, has-been baseball star Kenny Powers on HBO cult-favorite "Eastbound and Down.") Hawkes's menacing, understated performance knocked out Garfield's, and Matt Damon's from "True Grit."
"The Illusionist"
Most expected "Tangled" or "Despicable Me" to join "Toy Story 3" and "How To Train Your Dragon" in the Best Animated Film category, but this French film sneaked in. Not that anything would stop "Toy Story 3" from winning.
The Academy Awards will be broadcast live February 27 and will be hosted by Anne Hathaway (not nominated for "Love and Other Drugs") and James Franco (nominated for "127 Hours"). It's a safe bet that neither will use any of Ricky Gervais's jokes. |

adeh,Oscar dah lah weekend ni..kesian tengok thread ni dah terbelakang sgt..pastu takde sapa nak buat prediction untuk kategori utama..lagi sedih tuan thread takpun momod tak nak edit tajuk ataupun highlight benang ni kasi semua orang rasa debaran Oscar ni
apa2 pun, debaran kemuncak hari isnin pagi...
my prediction
-Best Picture : Inception
-Best Actor : Collin Firth
-Best Actress : Natalie Portman
-Best Supporting Actor : Christian Bale
-Best Supporting Actrss : Helena Bonham Carter
