Sampai surat ke rumah kata ank dia dah diblack listkan so dia ambil inisiatif guna duit simpanannya utk bayar hutang ank tu tanpa pengetahuan ank, dlm hati kalau m cik ada banyak duit kenapalah masa ank belajar biarkan dia berhutang...hmmmm..

700 in a quandary as they have yet to receive PSD funding

PETALING JAYA: About 700 SPM top scorers who were scheduled to study abroad on government scholarship are now in a dilemma as the funding is not coming through.

There is high anxiety among these students – and their parents – who have completed their A-Levels, with some expected to enrol for degree courses in Australia next month.

The group comprises 9A+ top scorers of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia 2013 who were supposed to “automatically” receive the national bursary for A-Levels and degree courses in top foreign universities.

The matter was brought up to the Cabinet yesterday by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who pleaded on the students’ behalf.

“It is a crucial moment now. Those studying in Australia will start their semester in February,” he said, adding that the students need money for their university fees.

The matter came to light when the deserving students did not receive the crucial financial affidavits from PSD, which is the proof required by the foreign institutions that the Malaysian Government is footing their education bill.

The desperate students sought help from Dr Wee.

“They have finished one and a half years of A-Levels. Some have been accepted into top 10 universities overseas only to find themselves facing this financial difficulty,” he said.

Dr Wee said the cost of supporting these 700-odd students to study overseas could be up to “several hundred million ringgit a year”.

“We have to be very careful and understand the current situation. Bear in mind, we are facing a difficult time. In view of our economic situation, I hope there will be a solution,” he said.

The Cabinet, according to Dr Wee, had ordered the Chief Secretary to the Government and PSD to look into the matter.

The Education Ministry’s bursary was started in 2012 and was offered automatically to SPM leavers who achieved a minimum of 9A+s.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had also recently said the 2016 Budget would be “recalibrated” to reflect the current economic climate.

Use 1MDB’s RM1.1 billion grant to fund JPA scholars, says Rafizi

Putrajaya should use the RM1.1 billion grant it awarded to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) to fund the Public Service Department (JPA) scholarships, said PKR's Rafizi Ramli.

Commenting on reports that the government will suspend JPA scholarships due to falling revenue, Rafizi said 1MDB should not be using dwindling public funds to finance its projects.

"I urge Datuk Seri Najib Razak to instruct 1MDB to return the federal grant worth RM1.1 billion it took for the relocation and upgrading of the army base in Bandar Malaysia.

"That project is 1MDB's responsibility and should not involve public funds. RM1.1 billion is more than enough to fund the scholarships," Rafizi said in a statement.

News of the suspension was first reported by Chinese-language paper Sin Chew Daily yesterday, quoting Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Wee Ka Siong, who said the government would suspend JPA scholarships this year in view of falling revenues due to low oil prices.

Rafizi said the government had been slashing funds for scholarships since 2015, including those from Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara).

"The approach Najib is taking in the Budget 2016 revision is clear: he is cutting expenses for the public first before slashing expenses that involve cronies," said Rafizi.

"For instance, I am interested to know whether the government will continue to provide soft loans to companies that are awarded highway concessions." – January 21, 2016.
