SHILPA HAD TAKEN WRONG DECISIONS IN EMOTION
Even after remaining in the industry for more than a decade actress Shilpa Shetty has not achieved what any heroine dreams about. Though she has played some strong characters in films she has only two big hits like 'Baazigar' and 'Dhadkan' to her credit. Now, she is having introspection oh her strengths and weaknesses. She says that she has never competed with anybody; rather she has tried to create a different place for herself.
Most of the leading actresses of the industry have got married by now or they are not in demand in the market. In this situation Shilpa is happy with her position in the industry. She claims that she has overcome her weaknesses. She admits though that she did take some wrong decisions at a period when she needed to have concentrated on her work. She adds, "Without thinking I signed some films for which I have been suffering even today.
But now I take decision after looking into the matter from all matters and now I have some films which can bring a long term success for me." Now Shilpa is working in Deepak Tijori's 'Khamoshi' and 'Fareb'. Her Salman starrer film 'Shadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar' is ready to release. Deepak's first film 'Oops' was a big flop. Now it is to see how Shilpa is going to prove herself as a hit heroine in industry through these films!

MARRIAGE CHANGES KAJOL?
Believe it or not, but this is true. The tinsel world's most modern and chirpy girl has now turned a 16th century woman though after her marriage. She has shot to glory in Hindi movies in a very short time. Her pair with another equally honored star Shah Rukh Khan had given several hits. This girl is none other than Kajol, hailing from a family of movie stars for three generations. Recently, Karan Johar offered Kajol to do his movie opposite Shah Rukh Khan. However, Kajol is said to have told Johar that she would have to seek her actor-husband Ajay Devgan before accepting it.
She argued though that since the shoot would be held at locations outside the country she needed to consult her husband. Industry circles, however, feel otherwise. According to them, there is no good relationship between Ajay Devgan and Shah Rukh Khan. Hence she tried to avoid rejecting the Johar offer outright. The earlier reports of a patch up between the two prominent Hindi heroes seem to have been of wrong. Sources close to Kajol however say that she is more occupied in looking after her child who is too young to be left alone, especially during shoots abroad.

AISH AND SANJU'S HOT SCENES IN 'SHABD' PROMOS
The promos of 'Shabd' on Indian television channels are showing very hot scenes picturized on Aishwarya Rai and Sanjay Dutt. However, Aish had strongly denied doing any such scene while she was asked about it during the shoot. In fact, she had asked the critics to wait for the film, watch it and then ask her about it. This is to recall that Aish had said the same thing about her kissing shot with Vivek Oberoi in 'Kyon Ho Gaya Naa'. But such scenes were there in the movie when it was released, contrary to her earlier statement.
How far her word can be relied is anybody's guess? Besides, there were reports not in the distant past about Aish playing a James Bond girl. How could she think of doing such a role by avoiding giving a kiss to James Bond and also without exposing her body. Luckily, she didn't get the offer to do this movie. But she could not have done such a movie without it. Why should she hesitate to enact kissing scenes and exposing her beautiful body if she wants to enter into Hollywood movies?

Who Kareena or Bhumika in 'Autograph'?
Raj Kumar Santoshi has recently signed Tusshar Kapoor for his latest movie titled 'Autograph' in the lead role. However, he hasn't finalized the name of the movie's heroine. It is said that Tusshar is having a tough time because he has to choose one of the two prospective candidates. On the one side is his Kareena Kapoor and on the other is pretty star Bhumika Chawla. A tough job indeed!

Dia's short cut entry in Vashu's camp
Dia Mirza shot to fame through a long smooch picturised on her hero Imraan Hashmi in 'Tum Sa Nahin Dekha' of Vashu Bhagnani. However the movie didn't prove a success at the box office. So she was disappointed. Moreover, this is no secret that she had sworn not to work with Vashu any more as the latter had not included her in the cast for his two forthcoming movies. Now, she has changed her attitude towards Vashu Bhagnani, presumably to get entry via a short cut. She is seen admiring Vashu wherever she goes. In a recent chat with the media, she showered all possible praises on Vashu to secure an re-entry in his movies though via a short cut.

Aish as 'Rani Ki Jhansi'
Aishwarya Rai will be doing the role of 'Rani Ki Jhansi', which is being produced by Ketan Mehta. This is to recall that Aish had quit Ketan Mehta's 'The Rising' due to her conflict with the movie's hero Aamir Khan. Besides acting as 'Rani Ki Jhansi', Aish is also playing as Maharani of Budha in 'The Buddha'.

Anil & Anupam siblings enter movies
Actor Anil Kapoor's daughter Sonam Kapoor will soon appear on the big screen. Luckily, Sanjay Leela Bhansali will launch her in his next opposite Sikander Kher. Interestingly, Sikander is Anupam Kher's son. Let's wait and see how the new pair of Bollywood families fares on the screen. Hopefully, they would follow in the footsteps of their dads.

RAMJI LONDONWALEY - MADDY A BIHARI (Aug. 31, 2005)
Maddy, to act like a Bihari.
R.Madhavan, of Kollywood fame is on cloud nine these days. With a heap of bilinguals and remake being mode of his films. His Ramji London Wale, a remake of his hilarious Tamil venture Nala Damayanthy is all set for a release. The film is a remake of Kamal Haasan's Tamil hit Nala Damyanthy, in which Madhvan played a Bihari cook in London, who is Amitabh Bachchan's fan.
The character goes to London to arrange the required dowry for his sister's marriage. The problems he faces in adapting himself to the new environment and his success in doing so, is the main plot of the film.
The Hindi comedy is directed by debutant director Sanjay Daima who was earlier an assistant to maverick filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker in the film Lagaan.
Madhavan hopes that his antics as a Bihari will get him round of applause from all who see his film.
Slated for a September release, the film will definitely bring laughter on the faces of the audiences.

AISH PROUD OF PLAYING KIRAN IN 'PROVOKED'
Aishwarya Rai has acted as a heroine in 'Provoked'. She explains to us why she accepted the movie offer. She says, " Domestic violence is a big slur on our society. So, I took no time in accepting the 'Provoked' offer. I hadn't played the role of a female character who had undergone such a brutal physical as well as sexual torture." Whenever a husband tortures his wife and doesn't change his behavior despite several requests, the wife is left with only two options-suicide or struggle. While the first step speaks of the wife's cowardice, the second reflects her courage. A woman NRI named Kiran Ahluwalia showed such courage. The 'Provoked' is based on her real life. She suffered physical, mental and sexual torture for ten long years. Then, she thought of making her husband Deepak realize at least for once the suffering she has been passing through. She planned to burn the feet of her husband so that the latter is unable to run after her and thus torture her. She tried to put fire to his bed while he was asleep at night. Since Deepak got up, Kiran threw the burning matchstick on Deepak's bed. This injured Deepak seriously and he died after ten days of hospitalization. Kiran was arrested for murdering her husband. The court ordered life imprisonment for her, ignoring the husband's torture of Kiran for ten years. An NGO working among South Asian women named Southhall Black Sisters, appealed to the court for revision of the order. The court reduced her sentence to three years and three months. Kiarn was released from the prison on Septemer 25th, 1992. Meanwhile, the NGO had held meetings, rallies and dharnas to appraise the society about Kiran's torture by her husband.
So, Kiran's became a household name. Kiran got inspired to write her autobiography under the title of Circle of Light. Director Jagmohan Mundhra was impressed with Kiran's courageous story and decided to make a film on her life. He has therefore based his 'Provoked' on Kiran's story. Since the media had kept her story alive, Kiran thanked the media after she was freed from the prison and said, " I feel free now." Mundhra says that this remark of Kiran shook him completely and he decided to sign Aishwarya Rai for playing Kiran's character in the movie. He says that there are many parts of Kiran's life. In the first part, a Punjabi girl in Kiran begins her life with a lot of golden dreams, but her love meets with betrayal from her partner. The second part is significant. Kiran meets with a woman prisoner. Both talk to each other though they belong to two different cultures and languages. The British prisoner helps Kiran in turning courageous. Thus, Kiran begins her life afresh following her release from the prison. While Kiran's 21-year-old son wishes to see a movie made on her mother's life, her younger son aged 19 isn't familiar about Kiran's earlier torturous life. However, the Southall Black Sisters is thrilled to know about the film in the making. Aishwarya Rai is happy to play Kiran. After shooting of the film was over, Aish met with Kiran, and says, " I couldn't help embrace her as Kiran is indeed a living example of courage before us. I saluted to her for her courage."

Revathy impresses Big B
Super actor Amitabh Bachchan has worked with almost all directors, big and small. Still, he has a great desire to act in a movie being directed by Revathy. Why so? Yes, Revathy's acting in a movie opposite Amitabh has immensely impressed the latter. Is Revathy listening? Will she oblige?

Meghna dying to be Sanju's heroine
Though Meghna Naidu of the ' Kaliyon Ka Chaman' fame has been getting movie offers from the producers, yet she is not very happy, as she hasn't yet been cast opposite famous heroes of Bollywood. She is desperate to act opposite Sanjay Dutt. She wonders if she would ever get a chance to be Sanjay Dutt' heroine. Industry sources say that she could at least get an opportunity to do an item number in Sanjay Dutt's movie.

I DON'T WEAR SWIMSUITS IN REAL LIFE, SO WHY SHOULD I WEAR THEM ON SCREEN
She arrived in the industry with a flop film Raja ki Aaayegi Baraat. Today she enjoys the status few other heroines do in Bollywood. Rani Mukherjee - the sensuous girl from superhit Ghulam - strongly believes that superstars are not made by big banners or big directors, but by the hard work they put into their acting. The measure of success in the film world is not just by how efficiently you display yourself in a swimsuit, but by your acting talent, says Rani, asserting that she has more than once proved herself as a successful heroine.
Q: A spate of flops have made the producers lose confidence in you. Do you think this is right?
A: First I must clarify that none of my films have been a losing proposition for anyone. Badal, Bichchoo and Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega have only brought more money for distributors. It is ridiculous for anyone to assume that every film will be as successful has Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Q: You keep saying that you would like to handle all kinds of roles, but after the couple of roles that you have done recently, you are being labeled as a "love specialist."
A: I don't honestly care about what people say about me. I am an actress and will execute all roles to the satisfaction of my directors. Anyway, most roles involve love triangles, what can I do about that.
Q: Although you and Aamir Khan touched dizzying heights with your success in Ghulam, it is being said that you both have fallen out because Aamir has not cast you in his ambitious forthcoming project Lagaan.
A: That's not true at all. Aamir and I are on the best of terms. He spoke to me for Lagaan, but I could not have given him dates. That's why it fell through.
Q: Is it true that your once-romantic relationship with Govinda has now sourced?
A: Our so-called romance was all in the minds of the gossipmongers. I must tell you that Govinda and I shared a very professional relationship and will continue to do so in the future. In fact, we are working together in two or three films at present.
Q: Do you feel insecure in an industry where there are new faces every couple of weeks?
A: If there is anyone in the Bombay film industry who says that he or she is not insecure, he is lying because in a big place like this you are always insecure. It is human tendency to be insecure about one's future. And I am no different. It is however important that new additions keep coming otherwise one tends to be complacent about one's work and there is no growth.
Q: You have this unique quality of being friendly with fellow actresses. Are you not jealous?
A: Jealously does not help and fighting with others and being rude and bitchy only makes survival tougher. That is why you will see that I get along with all - Aishwarya to Rekha.
Q: You have done several kissing shots in films, but are adamant not to wear swimsuits. Why is that so?
A: If there is a need for a shot where two lovers have to kiss, then I will do it. But if I am told to walk around in a swimsuit unnecessarily just because others do it, I am not going to do it. I don't sport swim-suits otherwise in real life,, so why should I wear them on the screen?
Q: How fast do you want to reach the top actress slot in the industry?
A: Like everyone else, I aspire to do well. But I do not believe in being part of any rat race for the number one position. I want to be known as a versatile actress. I want to carve out a niche for myself in the industry and I am working towards this in my own way.
Q: Don't you think you need the help of big names like Sooraj Barjatya, Karan Johar, Yash Chopra or Subhash Ghai to meet your aim?
A: I do not think just working with top banners can make you a top heroine. Look at Mahima Choudhary - she worked with Subhash Ghai. Where is she now? Farha worked with Yash Chopra - she is in the wilderness now. As if none of these filmmakers have ever given flops? I do not believe that banners can make your future, it needs will power and consistent hard work to achieve your aim.

Q : Is it true that you will be teaming up with your old-time screen sweethearts like Jaya Prada, Hema Malini etc. in your forthcoming films?
A : Yes. In Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam' I am teaming up with Jaya. Suneel Darshan is talking to Hema Malini about a role opposite me in his 'Rishta - the bond'. I'm not aware whether Hema has agreed to do the role or not. Yes, I'd have loved to romance Aishwarya Rai or Tabu on screen but how can I put the clock back on my age. I am 59 now, so I have to be content playing the father to Aishwarya Rai in Aditya Chopra's 'Mohabbatein'.

Q : Do you agree with the critics who insinuate that 'Kya Kehna' advocates free sex in times of Aids which is a harsh reality and the population of our country is spiraling through the roof?
A : Who says that the film is sending wrong message to the youth of today? I think it is downright stupid to say such horrid things about the movie, which does not propagate free sex. It tells to learn from Priya's mistake. For once a film brings the topic of sex out in the open and forces parents to think and talk to their daughters about it, so that they never get into a tricky situation like Priya did. Sex education is a must for youth. Besides, there's a big difference between real life and 'reel life'. I wouldn't get into a situation like this. Frankly, if I ever did, I wouldn't know how to handle it.

Q : How has it been possible for you to be unaffected by the backlash of the media?
A : I am not being modest when I say this, I am being honest. I am glad I have the intelligence to understand what is happening to me. if I allow myself to get affected by all this hype, I'll stunt my growth as an actor and be damned for life. I know that I still have a long way to go before I can even aspire to equal the achievements of any of the superstars. I know I am good at my job, and I am sure I will be damn good one day but right now, I also know how bad I can be.

Q : Are you involved with either Ajay Jadeja or John Abraham?
A : Ajay Jadeja is a good friend. However we hardly meet these days. Because he is busy with his activities, the way I am with my shooting schedules. In any case before you jump to any conclusion, let me tell you that right now I am busy and married to my work which takes up 36 hours a day! As far as John Abraham is concerned, all that I can say that he is a very dear friend who will always remain so. Just because I am the most eligible "bachelor girl" around, people are keen to link me with any guy

BOBBY DEOL
Q: Now that you have spent five years in the Bombay film industry, have you wisened up to the ways of the industry?
A: Attitudes here depend on how successful you are. I have seen people change overnight in this industry when I wasn't doing well. And the moment I scored a hit, they were saluting me once again. Earlier, this behavior used to upset me, but now I have wisened up to it. Today, at this stage of my life I think I am quite saleable. I am working with top directors and banners like Mahesh Manjrekar, Indra Kumar, Raj Kunwar and Abbas-Mustan. I am in a position to reject offers that I am not convinced about. I am also not in a tearing hurry like some of colleagues to reach the top position. I want to do well for keeps.

MANISHA KOIRALA
Q: Is it true that you goofed up and mistook Bhagyashree's husband Himalaya for Manoj Bajpai some time back ?
A: Yes, long before I met Manoj personally, I walked up to Himalaya at a party and told him that he was indeed a fine actor. Himalaya immediately realised that I was making a mistake but nevertheless shook hands and thanked me. But, let me tell you, I still insist that there is a big similarity between the two and they can be mistaken for each other. I was quite embarassed, but I told myself that to hell with it anybody can make a mistake. I loved Manoj's work in Satya and I insist that he is a great actor. I am looking forward to an opportunity to work with Manoj but that hasn't come my way yet.

Q: There are rumors afloat that you are bieng promoted vigorously by none other than Sunny Deol ?
A:Sunny and I share a very good rapport. The relationship between the Deols and the Patels goes back a long way. Dharamji and my grand dad Rajni Patel were very good friends. Sunny had signed me for his banner Vijayata Films long before Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai took off. Sunny is not promoting me. It's sheer coincidence that besides Gaddar, I'm doing Devaa with him as well. I had such a good time on the sets of Gaddar that I am actually quite upset that it is getting completed. Earlier, I do admit that I had reservations about doing Gaddar because people in the industry told me that it was a bid to pair me with someone older. But I think Sunny and I look quite perfect together. In the first half of the film, I am supposed to be younger, but in the latter part of the film I play mother and wife.

Q: Is it true that you have signed a programme with Sony TV to anchor a show on the lines of Amitabh Bachchan anchoring Kaun Banega Crorepati ?
A: That's not true. I have not signed any contract with Sony for this show. In fact, talks are on with a couple of channels who have made interesting offers. I have yet to decide on which one I choose. The game is new for me and I am not familiar with the rules of the game either. I have my advisors. People are double-minded, but I am worse because I am triple-minded. Television is a very interesting medium no doubt, but I have not finalised anything yet.
