It was revealed that a couple of veteran rockers recently got down to some bare-knuckle fisticuffs. Last month, Maeda Kou (45) filed a complaint with Chiba Prefecture police after he was beaten by 6-foot-3 legendary guitarist Hotei Tomoyasu (45). His blog has vague references to the incident from June 14 onwards, mentioning that he was visiting the hospital every day and saying how he wanted to "destroy that lying S.O.B." It seems the two were driving back to Tokyo from Hotei's villa in Chiba when they got into a fight that left Maeda with nasty injuries. The two have been friends for many years, with Maeda sometimes writing lyrics for Hotei and taking part in a collaboration album last year. Maeda has also found considerable success as a writer, winning several top literary prizes including the Akutagawa Prize in 2000 for the novel "Kiregire." Hotei was lead guitarist for the top 1980s rock band Boowy and his famous track "Battle Without Honor or Humanity" is used in Michael Bay's recent movie adaptation of "Transformers."

[US] ELLEGARDEN invaded Hollywood!

In front of a crowd of approximately 300-400, ELLEGARDEN rocked out at Knitting Factory, Hollywood, on July 24, 2007.
The 4-member band toured the US last year but never made a stop in Los Angeles.
Vocalist Hosomi told the enthusiastic crowd in his fluent English that the LA crowd was even better than the one they received at SXSW last year in Austin, TX.
To promote their latest album ELEVEN FIRE CRACKERS for a US release, ELLEGARDEN was all fired up and performed all their English songs from the album in the set, as well as many classics from previous albums, such as Red Hot, Marry Me, Missing, I Hate It, Supernova, The Autumn Song, etc.
Their punk-pop-rock sound gave nobody a break, and the whole floor was shaking the entire night, with arms waving all over the place.
They even came out for two separate encores because the crowd just refuse to let them leave!
The Chiba natives formed the band almost eight years ago, and now with five albums under their belt, the band is ready to explore the US market.
Under Dynamord Records, even though ELLEGARDEN is still technically considered an indie band, their singles and albums have consistently atop the major music charts in Japan whenever they were released.
Although most of ELLEGARDEN抯 lyrics were in English, language has never been an issue for them in Japan, and the Japanese have greatly embraced ELLEGARDEN抯 music, as proven by the popularity and success in their CD sales and nationwide tours.
With the language barrier out of the way, is the US ready for ELLEGARDEN?
ELEVEN FIRE CRACKERS will hit the stores on July 31, 2007, and is already available digitally on iTunes and Nettwerk store.
Also check out ELLEGARDEN抯 official webpage at http://ellegarden.jp/ and their myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/ellegarden.

Charts: Ai Otsuka, Orange Range, Code Geass
Mon, July 30, 2007 (6:07pm EDT)

Pop artist Ai Otsuka managed to outsell Morning Musume this week to take the #1 spot on the singles chart. Her 15th single, "PEACH / HEART," sold about 25,000 more copies than the competing "Onna ni Sachiare." This marks Otsuka's third #1 single. It is her first since the 2005 release "Planetarium," which was also a tie-in with a highly popular drama series.

Meanwhile, rock band Orange Range dominated the albums chart, garnering both the #1 and #2 spots with their simultaneously released best albums, "ORANGE" and "RANGE." Each sold more than 210,000 copies, far surpassing the #3-ranked "Sora wa Maru de" by Monkey Majik, which only sold 82,000 in the same week.
In the overall DVD rankings, Volume 7 of the "Code Geass" anime series came out on top. This is the show's second DVD to reach #1, and every volume so far has shown up in the Top 3.
