LIFE MEIN KABHII KABHIIE looks interesting
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, April 09, 2007]
Don't go by the box office performance of movies from the past by director Vikram Bhatt; most recent being RED. And that's because if reports of his upcoming film LIFE MEIN KABHII KABHIIE are to be believed, he has come up with a film straight from the heart.
If the film seems to be a campus outing, don't just judge it to be THE feel of LMKK from beginning till the end; the film actually has a lot more to offer. Yes, the film does talk about five college youngsters with different dreams about their future dreams but beyond that the film has a unique soul.
It takes you to a journey beyond their college years and how they build their lives in their endeavor to reach the destination they had set for themselves. From hereon the film delves deep down into the underbelly of corporate world, media, politics, glamour and sex where each of the characters find themselves embroideled.
To resolve another misconception, the film isn't even episodic in nature, something that has been a much used and abused term in the last few months. Though there are multiple stories running in parallel, their is a common connection of friendship woven through all the 5 friends.
The film stars Aftab Shivdasani, Dino Morea, Sameer Dattani, Nauheed Cyrusi and Anjori Alagh as the five friends who place a bet amongst themselves to adjudge who is the happiest of them all once they meet after a gap of few years. In their journey towards happiness, they meet different characters played by Anuj Sawhney, Koel Poorie, Raj Zutshi, Pinky Harwani, Nikita Anand and Yashpal Sharma who make a difference to their lives. |

ECKLL avoids clash with TRRP; moves to May
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, April 09, 2007]
TA RA RUM PUM wave is on and the first flick to avoid the clash and move ahead to a latter day is EK CHALIS KI LAST LOCAL.
People associated with the film are honest enough to acknowledge that the first Yash Raj Films' offering of the year is a huge enough competition. Our source clearly states that it would be nothing sort of suicidal for ECKLL to be arriving so close to the Saif Ali Khan-Rani Mukherjee starrer.
Originally slated for an April 20 release, a week before TRRP takes over screens across the country, EK CHALIS KI LAST LOCAL would now be arriving on either May 11 or 18.
Says our source, "There was no point for the film to come on April 20. The team had earlier designed its release strategy for April but then as things stand, TRRP would be arriving like a storm and would occupy all multiplex screen space across the country. ECKLL does have its strengths but then it is more of a word of mouth film which starts consolidating a place for itself from second week onwards. What's the point to bring on the film on April 20 only to find itself running at some odd places in Mumbai suburbs once TRRP arrives?"
So what's the plan? "Wait and watch", says the source with a tinge of disappointment, "We hear that METRO is arriving on May 11 and that's something which needs to be kept in mind too. Looking at how things move in next few days, we should be able to close on a fresh date soon. But let me confirm yet again that director Sanjay Khanduri has come up with a commendable first time effort with ECKLL. We may bring the film in a while but it is surely going to be noticed in a big way once people see what the script, Abhay and Neha have to offer." |

Big B v/s Big B on May 25?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, April 09, 2007]
If producers of these films have their way, they would both be looking forward to bring their CHEENI KUM and SHOOT OUT AT LOKHANDWALA on May 25. But one wonders if distributors and exhibitioners would give a green signal to this desire of Suneel Manchanda and Sanjay Gupta respectively.
Though both the films belong to different genres and are poles apart when it comes to setting and budget (CHEENI KUM is a light hearted mid-budget entertainer whereas SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA is a multistarrer big budget action/drama/thriller), they both would be vying for an early release. Reason? CHEENI KUM has been ready for months and has already been moved from an earlier planned release in March timeframe.
On the other hand it has been quite a while since a film came from Sanjay Gupta and he would be eager to kick start his year since he has multiple films lined up in the remainder of the year, most notable being DUS KAHANIYAAN, WOODSTOCK VILLA and ALIBAUG.
Looking at the urgency that both film makers would have to bring their product out at theaters, it would be quite an interesting observation to see if the two films move around their release date or stick on to the plan to result in a Bachchan v/s Bachchan clash! |

YRF - Jugal Hansraj film titled ROADSIDE ROMEO?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, April 09, 2007]
Is the directorial debut of Jugal Hansraj titled ROADSIDE ROMEO?
That's the speculation going around the town ever since news came in that actor Jugal Hansraj has been roped in by Yash Raj Films to direct their first ever animation film. Another highlight of this film is that it won't be based on human beings but, hold your breath, dogs! Hence the title ROADSIDE ROMEO!
To add spice to the flavor, there are also rumors of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor being roped in to give voiceover for the two dogs who are the prime protagonists in the film.
Will there be an official confirmation soon? |

ADLABS turns messiah for small films
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, April 09, 2007]
ADLABS is soon turning out to be the corporate house to visit if you have a film ready for release. Even more so if it is small budget and is waiting to get a presenter.
After picking up films like EIK DASTTAK and SAY SALAAM INDIA, ADLABS has now gone ahead and given a helping hand to a small time film called PANGA NAA LO that stars veterans Om Puri and Satish Shah in the lead. Said to be a film for an entire family, the film also stars other character artists like Viju Khote, Supriya Pathak, Navni Parihar and Razzak Khan.
While both EIK DASTTAK and SAY SALAAM INDIA have been commercial disasters and have even failed to get a proper release, let alone being accepted or rejected by the audience, it now has to be seen if PANGA NAA LO meets with a better fate. |

"Success of METRO is success of rock genre" - Pritam
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, April 09, 2007]
"If the music of METRO would have failed, it would have translated into rejection of rock genre", says composer Pritam who now has yet another success to his name with the music of METRO raising up in the charts.
"I was apprehensive about the music; in fact I was never too sure about it since rock is still in it's infancy stage in India", confesses Pritam, "In fact even when composing for it, I was left wondering if we actually took a right step in trying to do something so out of the box and unconventional by placing a rock band within the film."
And how does he feel now? "Of course it's a high for all of us associated with the music of METRO. Success of the film's music is success of the rock genre. I was confident about the music; though not as much about its acceptance or rejection. But the way music has been performing so well all over in spite of promotion still waiting to heat up, it only gives me a chance to continue experimenting with my work and keep throwing surprises."
Now he also appears in the music videos of the songs. 揟hat was always the idea |

Eleven years ago, Karisma Kapoor rocked the charts with 'Sexy Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bolen' number from 'Khuddar', produced by N R Pachisia.
These days, Kareena is repeating history by grooving to the song 'It's Rocking Yaara Kabhi Ishq To Karo' from the forthcoming film, 'Kya Love Story Hai', also produced by N R Pachisia, and releasing worldwide on April 20.
Alisha Chinoy has rendered both the hit numbers for Karisma and Kareena !
Kya coincidence hai !

'In 36 CHINA TOWN critics were not too positive" - Upen Patel
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, April 10, 2007]
Upen Patel seems quite pleased with the positive reviews he has received from critics for both 'Namastey London' and 'Shakalaka Boom Boom'.
Upen plays the role of an Indian Boy Raghav who has dreams to be a singer and goes to the US and becomes Reggie. He plays a very energetic character who is lively, ambitious, aggressive & focused.
Upen is gung ho about the way he is stylishly presented in the film.
Says Upen, "I am so glad at the way I have been presented by Suneelji; he has done his best for a newcomer. It's my first film where I am playing an interesting and a lead character. In '36 China Town', I played small cameo which got me noticed. In 'Namastey London', the critics have been very supportive towards me. I'm very thankful to Suneelji. He has stood by me & supported me. I hope to live up to his expectations."
He adds, "Though in '36 China Town' the critics were not too positive, I took it positively and that only urged me to do better in 'Namastey London', and in 'Shakalaka Boom Boom', I have grown as an actor since my debut. I am thankful to the critics."
Even industry is betting very high on this newcomer and are taking note of his strides in Bollywood.
Says Suneel Darshan, "He will go places since he is sincere, hard working and is ready to learn. Besides he has this extremely high screen presence, charisma and is a killer onscreen." |

Adnan Sami now plays GODFATHER
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, April 11, 2007]
Move over Marlon Brando, Adnan Sami is here!
35 years back, Marlon Brando had made Don Vito Corleone a legend of sorts as he enacted the title role of all time classic THE GODFATHER. Now Adnan Sami too dons a similar wardrobe (literally) as he does his own take on GODFATHER for his upcoming music album.
GODFATHER in a music video? So what's the connection?
Well, in accordance to his exclusive tie up with one of the leading music channels of the country, Adnan has begun publicity of his album by acting in specially designed promos where he features as Godfather. The resemblance is simply unbelievable here as not just he dresses up like Marlon Brando, he even has the make up done in such a manner that his looks too match.
Add to that the tone, voice, mannerisms and an entire body language being so similar that one can't help but one wonder if we have yet another musical talent ready to be explored as an actor! |

IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, April 11, 2007]
Jiah, who has been well appreciated by the critics for her acting in her debut film NISHABD, is presently living it up in London. Her video 'TAKE LITE' which she has sung, written and choreographed her own belly dancing steps like Shakira, has also been creating waves.
She has also gone to London to spend time with her sister who is settled down there. But a little birdie informs that Jiah, besides living it up in London, has also been training in Tai Chi & Motor cycle stunts for her next film which she has signed.
Jiah is not disclosing anything though since she is under a contract.
When asked about her next film, Jiah just laughs "Hey, I am having great fun in London. I'm just chilling out. I'm glad that my debut performance has been appreciated. Let me have some fun before I focus completely on my next film." |

Now watch out for bare-chested Himesh
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, April 11, 2007]
Himesh Reshammiya would soon be seen in a new avtar....literally!
Salman Khan has done in the past. Upen Patel is following suit. Now it seems that Himesh Reshammiya's turn has come to face the camera bare-chested as he rechristens himself as HR in his acting debut AAP KAA SURROOR.
The promos of the film have arrived and in one of the passing shots, one can spot Himesh exposing a little more than what one would have accepted him to do as he wears nothing underneath his jacket. And guess what, with his bare chest display sans any hair, he only appears to be enhancing his rock star image.
With the release of the film late summer, it would be worthwhile to see if he goes the full distance and gives Salman and Upen a run for their money. |

I was missing my boyfriend during KLSH - Ayesha Takia
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, April 11, 2007]
When asked about her favorite track from the hit album of her forthcoming title, Kya Love Story Hai, we didn't expect her to say 'It's Rocking', which is Kareena Kapoor's track. She didn't!
Instead, she selected Jeena Kya Tere Bina! The reason? "I was in South Africa for nearly 40 days, shooting for Kya Love Story Hai, and was missing my boyfriend! This song echoes the sentiments I felt at that time!" smiles the cutie.
We're surprised she didn't select Miss You Everyday then! What say Ayesha? |

IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, April 11, 2007]
UTV Software Communications Ltd has resolved to transfer all its Motion Picture Production activities -Domestic and International - into one of its overseas subsidiaries, which will move to get listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange.
UTV's present Hollywood motion picture business including co-productions like Mira Nair's 'The Namesake', Chris Rock's 'I think I Love My Wife', Will Smith and now M Night Shayamlana's 'The Happening' and its worldwide distribution activity of Indian movies including, were a part of its overseas subsidiaries. Company's film production businesses worldwide (including the movie production slate of Indian Movies) will be part of the listed entity going forward. .
Mr. Ronnie Screwvala, Chairman, UTV Software Communications Ltd explains - the transfer and overseas listing, " The reasons are manifold
(a) We have matured our Movie Studio business to a LEADERSHIP position both in South Asia and globally and we need to unlock value for our UTV shareholders.
(b) In India we are constantly benchmarked with "pure play" Hindi movie producers - and our Movie model is far more Robust, Stable and Global than anyone in South Asia and we believe that international investors on overseas stock exchanges understand such a mature model better.
(c) Of course we will produce more Indian Movies than international ones- but -in 2 years OVER 50% of our motion picture revenues will come from International markets.
(d) Some US Studios are in advanced stages with us - in their interest to partner with us in India and an overseas structure supports this alliance.

Adds Mr. Screwvala "With our close association with global creative brands like Mira Nair, Chris Rock, Will Smith, M Night Shyamalan, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Ashutosh Gowariker & Vishal Bhardwaj - along with media majors like Fox, Disney and Sony - we are very uniquely positioned as an Indian company in the international marketplace." |
