Injured man found on MRT track, disrupting journey of commuters
SINGAPORE : About 1,300 MRT passengers had their journey disrupted on Monday morning when a man was found injured on the rail tracks.
The disruptions between the Woodlands and Jurong East stations happened at about 7:30am and lasted around 10 minutes.
Callers to the MediaCorp News Hotline said the man, in his 30s, was on his way to work when the incident happened.
Civil defence officers were called. They found the man with visible head injuries and later sent him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
It is not known as yet how the man was injured. - CNA /ls |

SSO musicians entertain lunch crowd at various MRT stations
SINGAPORE : Musicians from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra have been entertaining the bustling lunch crowd at various MRT stations all over Singapore, since March 29.
Four of them have been performing at the Raffles Xchange at Raffles Place MRT station for the past two days.
And for almost an hour, "The Fabulous Four" string quartet charmed their audience with a wide selection of well-loved classics.
The lunchtime concerts are held in conjunction with the launch of the SSO train, which will last till mid-May.
The effort is sponsored by SMRT as part of its Arts for the Community Programme.
This is not the first time SMRT is supporting the arts.
Last December, SSO musicians performed at Orchard MRT station at the launch of the SMRT Silver Tribute Fund which raises funds for elderly homes.
In another effort to raise money for this same fund, SMRT will be donating proceeds from a special SSO opera gala performance in July this year. - CNA/ms |

Construction worker walks into office with 30cm motar shell round
There was panic at a construction site office of the Circle Line's Bukit Brown MRT station at lunchtime today (18 Apr) when a worker turned up at the office holding a 30 cm mortar shell round.
24-year-old Rezwan who works as a drafter making drawings and plans told STOMP that the worker walked about 10 metres with the mortar from to the office merely because he wanted to show his supervisors what he had found.
The construction site was at Jalan Mashor in the Mount Pleasant area.
Rezwan added that the worker was quickly instructed by his bosses to leave his lunchtime find on the office floor.
While evacuating the office, he took this mms picture and later sent it to STOMP.
Rezwan said the Police and bomb disposal squad were on site by 1pm and by 2.30pm the all-clear was given to all to return to the site.
According to the Police, two war relics were removed by the bomb disposal squad.
One was the mortar shell round (see picture) and the other was a 10 cm anti-aircraft ammunition.
