Oricon charts: Hey! Say! 7 youngest to reach #1
Mon, August 6, 2007 (4:43pm EDT)

According to Oricon's sales charts this week, Johnny's unit Hey! Say! 7 came in at #1 with their single, "Hey! Say!" They sold an estimated 121,000 copies, edging out TVXQ's "Summer Dream" by about 8,000 units.
With this release, the group has become the youngest male group to top the singles chart. The five members have an average age of 14.8. The previous record was set in 1987 by Hikaru Genji, with an average of 16.1.
Meanwhile, TVXQ was not the only Korean group in the Top 10. SS501 barely made the cut with "Kokoro," their Japanese debut. This accomplishment actually makes them the first Asian (non-Japanese) group to enter the Top 10 with their debut single.

On the album charts, Sukima Switch took #1 with their first best album, "Greatest Hits." Orange Range's two best albums were bumped to #2 and #3.

In TV Asahi's adaptation, Somegoro Ichikawa plays the lead role as Samanosuke, while Hiroshi Tamaki plays Nobunaga.

SMAP's Kimura Takuya and fellow cast members walked a 50m red carpet yesterday at a PR event for the movie adaptation of his hugely successful TV drama "Hero". The event was held at the Nippon Budokan and attended by 5,000 screaming - and very lucky - fans. Demand for tickets had been such that some 400,000 people were less lucky. First aired in 2001, "Hero" is the most popular drama series ever for Fuji TV and was revived for a special last year. The movie version will open on September 8 on something close to the record number of 461 screens nationwide currently showing "Saiyuki", which stars fellow SMAP member Katori Shingo (30).

On September 5, Kome Kome Club will release its new album, titled "komedia.jp." It includes what is being billed as the world's first "download system" with a CD - while the album contains 16 regular tracks, buyers will gain access to 8 download-exclusive songs.
When listeners place the CD in their computers and access www.komedia.jp, they will be able to purchase the downloadable songs. The tracks will only be available between the CD's release date and the end of the year. Each of them will cost 210 yen to download.
The experiment is sure to be closely watched by the music industry, as CD sales continue to drop in favor of digital distribution.

Oricon: the new "hime sexy" trend
Tue, August 7, 2007 (5:00am EDT)
Last year, Japan saw the rise of the terms "ero kakkoii" ("erotic-cool") and "ero kawaii" ("erotic-cute"), thanks to pop star Kumi Koda. This year, it seems the new buzzword is "hime sexy," referring to someone princess-like but sexy at the same time. And according to an Oricon survey, the leading celebrity to fit that description is Kyoko Fukada.

Fukada was ranked the most "hime sexy" celebrity by female respondents, but she was only ranked third by males. The men surveyed instead preferred model Yuri Ebihara, who made #2 on the overall list.
Ayumi Hamasaki was #3 overall, followed by Erika Sawajiri and Masami Nagasawa.
The new "hime sexy" trend (overall):
1) Kyoko Fukada
2) Yuri Ebihara
3) Ayumi Hamasaki
4) Erika Sawajiri
5) Masami Nagasawa

Saeko dating pitcher Darvish
Tue, August 7, 2007 (4:22pm EDT)

It has been discovered that actress Saeko and the Nippon Ham Fighters pitcher Yu Darvish are currently dating. It was reported last year that Saeko was in a relationship with actor Keisuke Koide, but it appears that they broke up at the start of this year.
The two 20-year-olds met in March at a party with their friends. They naturally hit it off, as Saeko is a baseball fan, and they began going out in May.
Darvish's father, who lives in Osaka, acknowledges that they are dating. He said that he has already met the actress, when she visited the Kansai area with Darvish in June for a baseball match. Saeko's agency has also confirmed the relationship.
