Although the three young men have had experience playing sports, they had never dived before. During the one month prior to filming, the three attended training camp and worked their way up to jumping from the 10-meter platform (the highest). They are being coached by Keita Kaneto, who competed three times in the Olympics.

Filming is already underway, scheduled to finish at the end of September. The movie will open next year.

Yuko Ogura gets 17-minute monologue in Oshii film
Sat, August 25, 2007 (8:57pm EDT)

"Shin Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden," Mamoru Oshii's omnibus follow-up to "Tachiguishi Retsuden" ("Tachigui: The Amazing Lives of the Fast Food Grifters") and "Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden," is scheduled to open on November 10. The work consists of six shorts, with one of them starring talento Yuko Ogura.

She appears in the segment titled "Kayo no Tenshi: Crepe no Mami," which is directed by Makoto Kamiya. Ogura plays an idol named Mami who shows up at a Harajuku crepe shop in the 1980s. The short lasts only 23 minutes, but it includes a 17-minute monologue in which Mami explains the history of Japan's Showa era (1926-1989). The difficult and lengthy passage required a combination of memorization and reading.

Of the other five segments, Oshii directed two of them, one starring Yuriko Hishimi and the other starring Hinako Saeki. The other leads are: Mabuki Ando in Kenji Kamiyama's movie, Miki Mizuno in Takanori Tsujimoto's, and Yoko Fujita in Hiroaki Yuasa's.

Kyoko Fukada will play the lead in her first suspense drama. In November, WOWOW will air a special titled "Aoi Hitomi to Nuage," based on the novel by Keisuke Matsuoka.

Fukada plays Erika Ichinose, a clinical psychologist who is recruited by the National Police Agency in an attempt to stay one step ahead of a bomb terrorist. Following up his appearance in this year's NHK taiga drama, the enigmatic Gackt led a historical parade in Joetsu City, Niigata Prefecture on Saturday. Dressed as medieval warlord Uesugi Kenshin (1530-1578) in full armor and riding a white stallion, Gackt led the parade of about 450 people wearing samurai and other period costumes. The Kenshinko Matsuri festival is an annual event that centers around the famous warrior, most recently portrayed by the rock singer in "Fuurinkazan". The event, started in 1926 and held this year for the 82nd time, is based around the famous battle of Kawanakajima between Kenshin and Takeda Shingen. The lead up to the battle is also the climactic scene of this year's taiga series and, though yet to be aired, was already filmed earlier this month. A much larger crowd than usual, the 50,000 spectators were impressed with the touch of "authenticity" Gackt brought to the event, and he returned the compliment by encouraging them in their recovery from the recent earthquake that caused heavy damage to the region.
