When would Shilpa Shetty be revealed?
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, May 15, 2007]
She may have been hailed for her performance in LIFE IN A....METRO but she is still waiting to be revealed. Surprised? Well that's true since she is also a leading heroine in upcoming APNE but one is yet to see her in the promotional campaign of the film.
While all the Deol stars [Dharmendra, Sunny, Bobby] featured in the opening teasers for the film, since last week Bobby Deol and Katrina Kaif have been prominent in the promotional scheme of things with their dance number 'Mehfuz' on air.
This leaves Shilpa Shetty as the sole leading actor from the film who is yet to be revealed in the publicity material of the film.
One looks forward to that happening in a fortnight's time once METRO euphoria settles down and audience is ready to watch Shilpa in a new role. |

Supergirl Rakhi Sawant in yet another music video
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, May 15, 2007]
Rakhi Sawant, who was just seen in the music video of SUPERGIRL with which she made her singing debut, is back on television.
Second song from the album has just been premiered on the small screen and is titled 'Marjanwaan'. Composed and sung by DJ Sheizwood, this Shabbir Ahmed written song has an element of rap-n-reggae interspersed with routine rhythm.
The music video features Rakhi in a Punjabi costume as she sheds her glam-doll image and instead puts on a desi avtar. Needless to say, she manages to catch eye balls even in this 'item number' that has been mainly shot indoors with horde of dancers matching steps with her. |

UTV Motion Pictures to launch SPOTBOY
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, May 16, 2007]
After establishing UTV Motion Pictures as a strong player in Indian & International cinema with the success of its productions such as Rang De Basanti, Khosla Ka Ghosla and Metro, The Namesake, I think I Love My Wife and international tie ups such as a two movie contract with Will Smith and Night Shyamalan抯 next production, UTV is all set to launch its second motion picture brand SPOTBOY, to take the vision of the company to the next level.
Ronnie Screwvala, CEO of UTV, says, 揙ur business has grown many fold and we have numerous projects underway. Also, we are entering new markets and going international in the coming months, which made this the appropriate time for us to launch SPOTBOY Motion Pictures. This brand will take over some existing projects but will largely develop its own fresh content. This is a typical business expansion plan followed by most international production companies and provides the company with bandwidth and thinking flexibility. It also helps bring diverse projects within the same studio through different brands."
Vikas Bahl, Business Head, SAB TV, has been appointed to head this new venture as Executive Vice President. Vikas has built SAB as a strong player in the GEC space in the last 18 months, by more than doubling its ratings and revenue and building a strong brand in a hugely cluttered environment. SAB in the last one year has become an example of re-inventing a brand with consistency of content and marketing.
Vikas, in his 11 years of work experience has spent a large part of it in advertising, with Ogilvy and then Contract as Vice President. He also worked with indya.com and Radio Mirchi as its national marketing head. Ronnie Screwvala says 揤ikas brings with him experience from across entertainment and the brand building space. His out of the box approach to business and creative abilities will be help take UTV Motion Pictures to new heights. |

Emraan undecided about UTV 3-film offer?
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, May 16, 2007]
If grapevine is to be believed, Emraan Hashmi was recently offered a 3-film contract by country's premier film making house UTV MOTION PICTURES. Surprisingly, Emraan is still contemplating whether to accept or reject the offer and is keeping everyone guessing.
Says our source, "Emraan is basically playing a wait and watch game. Yes, the offer does sound interesting but he first wishes to test the waters and also see how is it working out for other actors who have got into such details."
But what could really be the reason behind all the apprehension? Also won't it anyways add to his profile by being associated with a biggie production house like UTV? "If he had to jump to an offer like this, he always had Mukesh Bhatt's VISHESH FILMS to look up to", adds the source, "But he didn't sign any contract there too, right?"
Is it money, the kind of projects he is getting there or something else altogether which is keeping him waiting? "See, he is at such a stage of his career that he has to think a lot before he decides what is lucrative and what is not. Money is a good thing, yes, but then the projects and the kind of subjects he works on is of utmost importance too. He has to move up the ladder now and show the film world that he has in him which makes for a versatile actor. I am sure UTV would only offer him the kind of projects which he truly deserves; they realize his true potential and are well aware of his star and fan power. Let's wait for some more time and Emraan should be able to make up his mind." |

"I am confused about CASH's song promotion" - Anubhav Sinha
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, May 16, 2007]
Normally it is seen that a filmmaker/music company is confused about the promotion of a film's music if it is not up to the marks. Ironically, it is the other way round in case of CASH. We speak to Anubhav Sinha, director of CASH, to understand the reason behind that.
"I would have ideally wanted to have around 4 weeks of promotion for CASH where the film would have arrived with a BIG BANG", says Anubhav who made waves with 'Dus Bahane' couple of years back, "But in case of CASH, it would be around 5-6 weeks that I would be focusing to keep the film in news."
Why? "That's because there are 5 songs in the film and each of them have turned out to be so spectacular that I can't think of leaving out any one of them from the film's publicity", explains Anubhav.
Fair point, so he can get started with it in June since the film comes on July 13th. What's the issue in that? "The issue is a healthy one here", laughs the director, "Vishal-Shekhar have come up with such fantabulous music that I am now confused about where to start. Each of the numbers in the film is a full-on-high-energy song and there is no single track which I can pick up and kick start my film's promotion with. Yes, it is a good problem to have but me and my team have to decide upon it fast to get the right momentum in place." |

Zakir Hussein to play historical characters
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, May 17, 2007]
Zakir, who had begun his career with television, is once again doing two historical characters for television.
Normally film stars refrain from television unless it is some talk show, but Zakir Hussein has no such issues. For him any medium, as long as it offers scope for good acting, is good. Naturally when he got a good offer from television, he took it on. He is playing the central character of Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Shahajahan, who was a saint by nature.
Everybody knows Aurangzeb as Shahajahan's son and for his power & fanatics, but nobody is aware of his elder brother Dara Shikoh. So, through this serial, makers have tried to educate every generation young or old, big or small; about the facts of our history. Dara Shikoh would have made a better ruler and may be then India wouldn't have suffered the slavery of British.
'Upanishad Ganga' is produced by a Calcutta based Chinmaya institute and directed by Dr. Chandra Prakash Dewivedi. It is based on stories from the Vedas, Purans, mythological and historical books. This serial consists of the life history of some great personalities.
Zakir calls this serial as his learning experience. Collection of many short stories, Upnishad Ganga is exploring history and mythology both. Each story is divided into four to five episodes. Zakir is enacting the character of Dara Shikoh and in another story he is playing the character of Valmiki who had transformed into a great Rishi from being a Dacoit. As for the memorable incident, for Zakir learning about history and his country is more valuable.
Zakir also has many films releases lined up like Johnny Gaddaar, Shabari, Fauj Mein Mauj, Firoj Nadiadwala's Full N Final and Ramu's Darling & Sholay. He had moved away from small screen because of his over commitment towards films. Zakir accepted this serial also because he has known director Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi very well.
When Zakir had begun his acting career in 1997, his first interaction was with Dr Dwivedi only. Zakir's first role was as Krishna's elder brother Balram in 'Ek Aur Mahabharat'. After that he did good roles in serials like Gatha, Kartavya, Adhikaar, Kitty Party and Kora Kagaz and subsequently moved towards silver screen.
Zakir Hussein is an actor first and then a star. This dedicated actor has done acting with sincerity and goes too deep into each character that he plays. He got rave reviews for portrayal of his mean character Rashid in Sarkar. In Risk Zakir portrayed the character of Naidu while in Black Friday he moved into the groove of bomb squad head Nand Kumar Chowghale with ease and expertise. |

KLI-NOL Maker to sue Metro team!
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, May 17, 2007]
Amongst the rave reviews Metro is generating, here comes a completely opposite reaction from one of its audiences. The person in question is the owner of a floor cleaning product Klinol which was featured in the film and he is suing Metro over the fact that the scene has already resulted in cancellation of orders due to misrepresentation.
The scene in question has Kangana Ranaut attempting suicide by picking up a bottle of KLINOL which has been zoomed in the scene where the bottle, brand klinol & the label is clearly magnified and it has made managing director Kamlesh Khubchandani seething over it.
He says, "I was getting constant calls from friends and relatives and at first I thought it was a mere coincidence. But when I saw the film, I could not believe it. It is a clear case of maligning my product with the camera zooming onto the label. It is unethical as they didn't take my permission before doing this. I am filing a case against them."
Khubchandani adds that they have raised a question mark over the credibility of my product which has been around since the last 30 years and is a household name. I am afraid that this being a popular film, it might result in jeopardizing my sales" |
