Is Urmila short of offers?

Urmila Matodkar is ready to grab any movie, as she has no other offer with her excepting that of painter - turned-director M.F.Hussain. Industry circles say that Urmila is signing even those films, which have been rejected by her star colleagues. Recently, she agreed to do the movie, which was hanging fire for quite some time due to lack of dates by Lara Dutta. It is to be believed that Urmila sent an S.O.S to the producer of this movie, offering her services to complete it. The producer was too happy and signed her for this.

Fardeen Khan all set to give Blockbusters.

The second half of 2005 seems crucial for Actor Fardeen Khan as the actor proved his mettle in the comedy films as well.

Anees Bazmee's 'No Entry' was a rollicking fun, who has knocked down David Dhawan from his throne as the king of comedy.

Fardeen has come out with his best performance which is showing in his improvised acting skills.
Fardeen said that he has just forayed into comedy roles and have plans to get into action next year.

Fardeen said he admires a couple of actors like Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor.

After a row of flip flops and semi-hits, Fardeen can expect wonders from this comical flick 'No entry'.

Shilpa Shetty on NDTV's Jai Jawan

Many a Bollywood stars have appeared on NDTV's popular show Jai Jawan. Aamir Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan and Johny Lever to name a few. Next in line is the original sex symbol Shilpa Shetty. The leggy lasso is in Gangtok to shoot for the serial. Her parents and younger sister Shamita are accompanying her. She expressed her gratitude to the soldiers posted at the Sino-Indian border at a height of 14,500 ft above sea level in Nathula. She shook hands with them and also with the People's Liberation Army, China who were on duty along the border area. She was grateful to them for their bravery in the extreme weather conditions.

Shilpa believes that her visiting them was the least she could do. The view of Nathula took her breath away. So much so that she would like to promote the place for shootings. Even the people who she interacted with in Sikkim were very soft hearted. The actress certainly seemed moved by this experience.

Aish: 'Raincoat' has toughest role

Aishwarya Rai's forthcoming movie' Raincoat' will be released within next two months. She is as eagerly awaiting its release as is its director Rituparno Ghosh to watch his debut Hindi movie in theatres. Aish says that her role in 'Raincoat' has been the toughest so far. "If 'Chokher Bali' was my deepest role, ?Raincoat? is my toughest ". To look just like a low-middle class Bihari housewife settled in Kolkata as portrayed in 'Raincoat', she managed each and every thing herself from the market.

ZAYED'S NO TO ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, PAAN MASALA

Zayed Khan has said no to all ads endorsing alcohol, tobacco and paan masala. Besides, the son of actor and director Sanjay Khan has declined to appear on the screen in baniyan or chaddi (underwears) for ads of these products. Bravo! Zayed says he wants to concentrate on acting rather than negotiating his film assignments or stage shows. He has therefore appointed an agency for finalizing his deals. He has an ambition to reach the pinnacle of his career without losing any time or opportunity. He has gained more confidence from his recent performance in 'Main Hoon Naa'.

He changed his hairstyle midway in the movie to attract more fans, he claims. From his debut 'Chura Liya Hai Tumne' to 'Main Hoon Naa' is a short journey but he is impatient to move faster. That's why he has already got many movies in his kitty. 'Vaada' is one and Zayed is placed as an obsessive lover of Amisha Patel. 'Shabd' is another, a psychological thriller, with Sanjay Dutt and Aishwarya Rai as his costars. Still another is 'Dus' of Sanjay Gupta, starring Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty and Abhishek Bachchan. This is a fast- paced movie.

HATTRICK BY AMITABH LIKELY THIS MONTH

Amitabh Bachchan is set to make a hattrick this month by making all of his three movies making hits. After the success of Govind Nihalani's 'Dev' released on June 11th and Farhan Akhtar's 'Laskhaya' on June 18th, Amitabh Bachchan, the super star of Bollywood, is awaiting the release of his third film this Friday (June 25th). Director Milan Luthria's 'Deewar' will hopefully help him achieve this. Both his fans as well as the critics are eager to watch 'Deewar' comprising the star cast of Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Khanna and Amrita Rao, besides Amitabh himself.

According to director Milan Luthria, the story of the movie is in the backdrop of the Indo-Pak war of 1971, when India won it after 14 days' hard fight. Another highlight of this war has been that while ninety thousand Pakistani soldiers and sixty thousand Indian soldiers returned to their respective lands, it left behind 54 Indian soldiers inside Pakistani jails. In the movie, Amitabh plays Ranvir Kaul, the leader of those unfortunate 54 soldiers who suffered atrocities in Pakistani jails.

CROWDS CHEER UP KAREENA IN CINEMA HALLS

Govind Nihalani's film 'Dev', based on the post-Godhra riots of Gujarat, is raking in the moolah in Vadodara, which saw the worst of mob fury. This is noteworthy when the BJP is debating the effect of Gujarat riots on the Lok Sabha polls. This is to recall that the BJP's bigwigs are yet to decide if the party should remove the controversial Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi holding him responsible for spoiling the party's image.

Incidentally, a cinema hall owner has advertised in local dailies asking every Hindu and Muslim to watch the movie before it is banned. ''The advertisements helped and the night shows are packed with Muslim youths. Though it is an art film, this movie will do well for at least four weeks,'' says the owner of a cinema hall.

The advertisements appeared a few days after the film was released in Gujarat. The media has rightly described that the catch phrase, ''Ardh Satya: Part II'', seems to be working. When Kareena Kapoor as Aaliya makes an appearance in the movie and later takes up the courage to file a police complaint, she is greeted with the shouts of ''Zaheera Sheikh''. This proves that the viewers have related the riots to their hometown.

According to another cinema hall owner, the movie is doing well. In fact, she adds that there is a rush of bookings, both from corporate and the people, who want to understand what happened during the riots.

GRACY AWAITS HER NEXT TWO MOVIES

The audience and the critics have always applauded Gracy Singh's performance in her movies. She began her career with 'Lagaan' and followed it with 'Armaan', 'Gangajaal' and 'Munnabhai MBBS' with equal success. Meanwhile, she got offers of a glamorous heroine but she did not compromise and declined them. "I do not accept offers of obscene films to become glamorous. Many directors offered me glamorous roles but I rejected them. I do not do what my conscience does not allow".

Indeed, Gracy is fully devoted to her art and does not want to make a compromise with her image. Her second movie 'Armaan' did not succeed. However in 'Gangajaal', Prakash Jha presented her as a housewife, which did have an impact on her audience though it failed to make it to the Box office. In her last flick 'Munna Bhai MBBS' she has frequently being on the stage though Sanjay Dutt has stolen the limelight.

Her forthcoming movies-- 'Vazah - A Reason to Kill' and 'Yeh Hai Zindagi' -- will hit theaters very soon. Gracy is banking on the success of these films. She regrets that her art had not been appreciated fully though she is an expert in Bharatnatyam. However, she is very excited about her next movie 'Yeh Hai Zindagi' in which she plays the role of a classical dancer and is the central point of the whole movie. When asked about her character in 'Vazah', Gracy explains that she plays the role of Trishna, the wife of a Nero surgeon. "An astrologer had forecast that I would be killed by my husband. This forecast created a lot of disturbance in my family life". Arbaaz Khan plays the role of Gracy's husband named Aditya in 'Vazah'.

She became philosophical and told, "Glamour is aligned with obscenity in Bollywood these days. I am opposed to it."

BIPASHA: MOTHERS CAN BE SEXY TOO

Whatever industrialist Dr. Vijaya Mallaya does, he does with style! Whether it's his party, fashion awards or a film! His first film as a producer 'Rakth' is ready and the music launch was also done with a lot of panache. In one of Mumbai's five star hotels, the ballroom had life size posters of the film. This multi starrer has Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Amrita Arora, Neha Dhupia and Dino Morea, besides Yana Gupta in an item number.

When asked about the film, Dr. Mallaya says, "I am very happy with the film and the music. When you hear the music you will be surprised. It's brilliant. I flew down specially from the Mittal wedding (in UK) for my film's music release." There was a lot of fanfare before the music was launched?a couple of dances, some clips from the film and then the entire cast on the stage holding the CDs and cassettes. Bipasha Basu plays the protagonist in the film who is a tarot card reader, she can see future visions and she also plays a mother in the film. "Who says mothers can't be sexy, and I do look pretty good, as we have made changes in my look, so my sexy image will still be there. But it's a movie that will scare everyone," says the hot Bipasha Basu.

Sanjay Dutt plays the role of a guy who is searching his fiance who has suddenly disappeared and Bipasha helps him. "The movie has turned out well. Its on a different subject," says Sanjay Dutt. Mahesh Manjrekar, who is excited about his big multistarrer, directs the film. "Its my first super-natural thriller, so I am a bit nervous. But at the same time we have portrayed everyone in a different character so that is the novelty of the film. And the music is terrific, for a scary film, the music score is perfect."

Dino Morea plays a role in which there are some gray shades, first for him as well. "It's a role which is different me from this sweet romantic boy. I have some negative shades which I absolutely loved doing. I hope the audience likes me in this character." Playing Dino's wife is Neha Dhupia, who is in yet another multi-starrer. "I don't mind doing multi-starrer. Though in 'Qayamat' I was the only heroine, here there are a few more. But my role is great and that's why I am in the film."

Of course, the album has two item numbers and one of them has been picturized on Yana Gupta. " I love to dance and it's great to do an item song which becomes a hit. I hope this one becomes a hit too," says the dancing queen. Apart from the cast and crew of the film minus Suniel Shetty (who was in Spain shooting for a film), John Abraham was also there to support Bipasha, and model Upen Patel was there for Amrita Arora. A huge bash and a star-studded event, we hope the music of the film also does well for the kind of money spent on its launch.

Is Shah Rukh Khan feeling insecure?

One can't help but wonder why the actor needs to release a DVD on his life, called The Inner And Outer World Of Shah Rukh Khan.

The official reason is that it is an interesting concept and people would love to know more about King Khan. It could even be a collector's item.

But rumours circulating in the industry suggest that Shah Rukh is suddenly feeling left out this year.

His only 2005 release, Paheli, bombed.

His new endorsement, Lux, may have backfired, as his fans feet he should have not done the advertisement. SRK in a bathtub full of rose petals is not a very macho picture.

He has no other release this year, and so does not want to fade from public memory. Answer: DVD.

Another rumour doing the rounds is that SRK is feeling threatened by Saif Ali Khan. The Chotte Nawab is clearly making inroads into the Yash Raj camp, and is doing another film with them while the original favourite, SRK, has none with them.

Shah Rukh did clarify in an interview recently that there were no differences between Yash Chopra and him.

Maybe true, Shah Rukh. But can be there be smoke without fire, is the question doing the industry rounds.

Who's the real Shah Rukh Khan?

Shah Rukh Khan has been in the limelight for the past 10 years
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is a bundle of contradictions.
Humble and arrogant in the same breath, a dreamer and a realist, now vulnerable and now supremely confident.

Who is the real Shah Rukh Khan?

The actor has now allowed the camera to capture his private life for the first time - London-based filmmaker, Nasreen Muni Kabir, has directed two documentaries on his "outer" and "inner" worlds.

The documentaries will be out on DVD early next month and may unravel the enigma for his millions of fans, from Morocco to Malaysia.

Will the DVDs sell?

"Shah Rukh Khan sells, period," he replies, with his famous dimpled smile.

Autobiography

But if the answer appears arrogant, the notion is quickly dispelled.

These documentaries will stand as a tribute to the uniquely creative life and thoughts of a marvellous human being and truly iconic star

Nasreen Muni Kabir,
director

"Any comparison between me and superstars such as Amitabh Bachhan and Dilip Kumar is blasphemous," he says.

Shah Rukh Khan, 40, says the documentaries are not an expose. "There's a personal me, there's an actor me and there's a star me."

He says he has been writing an autobiography for the past four or five years and that the idea behind the documentaries was to let his fans know he is as ordinary in real life as they are.

"My life may seem glamorous from the outside but off screen it's as ordinary as anyone else's. I want people to know that movie stars live a normal, middle-class life."

Khan has been in the limelight for more than 10 years now.

He started his career as a TV actor in his hometown, Delhi. But soon after moving to Mumbai (Bombay), home to India's entertainment industry, he established himself as an accomplished performer. Innumerable hits have followed.

Khan is one of the most coveted Bollywood actors today, winning all the awards the entertainment industry can offer.

His critics say he is awards hungry.

"I've won many awards and I want more. If you want to call it hunger then I'm hungry for awards."

He is highly competitive. "I'm the child inside who, when taking part in a race, wants to win, when he jumps he jumps the highest," he says.

Religion

"King Khan", as he is popularly known, is one of the most saleable faces in Indian cinema.

He has also made commercials for more than 25 brands.

The star's critics say he is awards hungry

Nasreen Muni Kabir, who followed him for more than 25 days to make the documentaries, says: "Time seems to stop when you are with SRK. These documentaries will stand as a tribute to the uniquely creative life and thoughts of a marvellous human being and truly iconic star."

Shah Rukh Khan, born into a Muslim family, is married to a Hindu and his children follow both religions.

At home, next to idols of Hindu gods he has the Koran. The most important thing is that "the children should know about the value of God".

Khan lost both his parents before he became well-known. His tenderness comes to the fore when he talks about them.

"I do miss them a lot, especially now that I'm successful, because I would have liked them to see part of it."

He was very attached to them and says his way to avoid depression is to "get up in the morning, wear make up and be someone else".

Shah Rukh Khan rules Bollywood, but who exactly runs his life?

"My two children, my family and friends. I do whatever they tell me. I love spending time with them."

And what about his fans? "They run my professional life."

BHUMIKA: LIKES PLAYING ROLES THAT TOUCH HER HEART

Amitabh Bachchan is on top of the world. He is being seen in almost all films and is considered a sure sign for a movie becoming a hit. This is evident from his recently released movies like 'Sarkar' and 'Bunty Aur Babli'. So, Ramesh Sharma has made a movie starring his son Karan Sharma in the lead role along with Big B, to make it hit. Ramesh is releasing this movie on September 23rd. This is the solo movie releasing this Friday as it's a mourning fortnight called Pitrapaksh (Sradh) among Hindus. The regular cine viewers will like to watch it in the wake of no competitor. Ramesh Sharma and Amitabh Bachchan have been good friends. Earlier, Ramesh Sharma had produced 'Hum' with Big B.

'Dil Jo Bhi Kahe' is the story of a young man who fights with his father to win her lady love . Amitabh is acting as Karan Sharma's father. The two actresses in the race for Karan's love are British actress Annabel and Indian beauty Bhumika Chawla. This is a musical movie and has several touching scenes between Karan Sharma, Amitabh Bachchan, Revathy, Annabel and Bhumika. The movie is inspired by the story of a French serial. Significantly, the movie has been shot at the beautiful locations of Mauritius and Stockholm. Amitabh Bachchan playing Shekhar Sinha lives in Mauritius with his son Jay. Both Amitabh and Revathy have beautifully played their respective roles of Shekhar Sinha and Sandhya. Shankar Ahsan Loy have given the music. Zaved Akhtar has provided the lyrics . Cinematographers include Vinod Pradhan and Gopal Shah. Interestingly, we met and chatted with Bhumika Chawla about her role in this movie .

What's your role in 'Dil Jo Bhi Kahe'?

I am playing a doctor who has interest in other subjects too.

How did you feel working with Karan?

It was nice to work with Karan . I have found him intelligent and hardworking.

And what's your experience of working with Big B ?

Wonderful. He is very punctual and devoted to work.

What are your forthcoming movies?

My forthcoming movies are 'Family' and 'Mahatma versus Gandhi' .

What type of roles you prefer?

I like playing those roles that touch my heart.

SHILPA SCOTCHES MARRIAGE RUMOR

Bollywood's fittest actress Shilpa Shetty is very angry on those, especially a section of the media that has indulged in making gossips about her marriage in the near future. She says that she has no plan to marry at least in the next three years, as she needs to concentrate fully on her professional career. She isn't wrong as she had been facing a bad phase in her filmi career until the luck brought her back in the limelight following her excellent performances in 'Phir Milenge' and 'Dus'. At present, her career has been taking a new turn. So, she has discounted all rumors about her early marriage.

She also scotches rumors that her parents are busy in arranging her marriage with a non-filmi boy. However, she admits that she would marry some time later. She says, " I shall marry but after three years. There is no one in my life as on today. And, I am very happy living single, at present." We may recall that some years back Shilpa was almost going to marry with Akshay Kumar, but suddenly the matter came to an end. Later, her name was linked with some film actors. Maybe, she isn't therefore in a hurry to enter into wedlock. Industry circles wonder if Shilpa is back in news due to her marriage controversy otherwise she had been out of the media attention. However, we don't believe that Shilpa will create a controversy to get into the news.

Preity towards stardom

Yesterday's dimpled darling and a pretty doll of the Mumbai filmi world has acquired a status of a full-fledged actress on way to stardom. In a very brief period, Preity Zinta has become the darling of the directors, the producers and even writers. All of them look towards getting her in their projects. This is not for any other reason but for her stunning performances in her latest few including 'Dil Se', 'Kya Kehna', 'Armaan', 'Dil Chahta Hai' followed by 'Koi Mil Gaya' and 'Kal Ho Naa Ho'.

Anil's first smooch with Sameera

'Musafir' will exhibit a seductive smooch scene between Sameera Reddy and Anil Kapoor. This is the first such smooch between Sameera and Anil Kapoor though. However, this is not a new thing for Anil. He has had enough of the stint before with his several senior heroines like Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala and Dimple Kapadia.

Priyanka sings too

Priyanka Chopra is following in the footsteps of Kareena Kapoor. She has sung a song in her forthcoming thriller 'Aitraaz' directed by Abbas-Mustan and produced by Subhash Ghai. What provoked this? Priyanka was humming a number and directors Abbas-Mustan overheard her. He asked the former Miss World to sing it louder. The actress obliged only to impress the director-duo and they persuaded her to give singing a try. Himesh Reshammiya, who claims that 'Aitraaz' is his most ambitious project, composes the song. Earlier too, Priyanka had crooned a song and that too for a Tamil film 'Thamizan'.

Zayed replaces John in 'FIGHT CLUB'

Sohail Khan had only recently signed Suniel Shetty, Dino Morea and John Abraham for 'FIGHT CLUB', directed by Vicky Chopra. Sohail was to play a pivotal role himself. But soon John Abraham opted out saying he has date problems. Now, Sohail has replaced John with Zayed Khan. For the film's heroines, Sohail and Vicky have already finalized one -- Dia Mirza, besides two others. They would be finalized soon. The producers have also hired the services of Jung Hung Doo, an action expert from South Korea, to execute the action scenes. After this entire movie is titled 'FIGHT CLUB', and therefore needs an action expert.
