Tanushree may seek legal recourse against Raj Kanwar
IndiaGlitz [Friday, May 18, 2007]
Tanushree Dutta is very much upset with the producer of 'Raqeeb', Raj Kanwar.
Raj Kanwar has given some false statements to media to promote his new film 'Raqeeb'. He has stated that Tanushree is playing a nymphomaniac in this movie, which is not true. He has also mentioned in some newspapers that she has done some bold scenes. Tanushree is so upset with these comments and cheap publicity which Mr. Kanwar is trying to get it two days before the release of the film, she sent a notice to Mr. Raj Kanwar. Here is the copy of the notice:
Re: The misleading statements given by you in leading newspapers with regard to film RAQEEB therein stating that I have done hot bedroom and kissing scenes
Dear Raj Kanwarji,
I am deeply hurt to write to you that the misleading and absolutely false statements given by you in all leading newspapers are surely going to tarnish my image in the film industry. You are fully aware that I have not performed any such scenes for your film which can in any manner whatsoever be considered as a bold scene, a hot bedroom scene, or a kissing scene. I therefore fail to understand, as to why are you giving such false statements and seeking to promote your film on the basis of such falsehood.
As the statements given by you in the newspapers on different occasions are very specific quotes, I am therefore constrained to believe that you may have probably without my knowledge, shot some scenes with a body double or with a look alike and on the basis of such scenes I feel that you may be trying to promote your film. Do note that I am forced to think like this only because of the specific quotes given by you in the newspapers.
However as I would yet like to believe that there are no such scenes shown in your film RAQEEB, with any body double or a look alike and that the reports carries in the newspapers are absolutely false, I would like to therefore request you to kindly confirm and clarify the same by giving a statement in the newspapers within two days as the film is yet to release. I would also like to kindly arrange for a trial show of the said film within next two days from the date of this letter, so as to enable me to view the said film personally and clarify my doubts which have been raised because of your statements that were carried in the newspapers.
In an event if you pay no heed to my requests and neglect to give a clarification in the newspaper and also arrange for a trial show as requested, then I shall have no option but to believe that you are purposely trying to harm my reputation and tarnish my image in the film industry. Do note that upon such circumstances I shall be constrained to seek legal recourse entirely at your risk, cost and consequences.
Therefore sincerely hoping that you shall do the needful at the earliest and thanking you in anticipation, I remain.
Tanushree Dutta |

The Sound Of Silence - By Onir
IndiaGlitz [Friday, May 18, 2007]
[Below is the reproduction of a recently written blog by Onir where he urges people to stand up and speak against the Human rights violation]
Yesterday I was at the Jehangir Art Gallery to protest against the arrest of Chandramohan Srilamantula (student of MSU, Vadodra) and the suspension of Shivji Panikkar. This was the focus but the protest was also to start recognising that wider issues of Freedom of Expression, Human rights violation all over the country needs to be addressed. It is a shame that one of the leading Painters of the country is living in Exile. A shame that a writer/art historian's face is blackened, books are burned. Does it not remind us all of something?
Where is it all going?
What saddened me was however the absence of the film industry at the protest. There was Konkona Sen, Ayesha Dharkar, Kitu Gidwani, Chitra Palekar and Sayed Mirza. Why was the mainstream Bollywood marked by their absence? Why is it that when there is a problem with the distribution of Fanaa the industry speaks up and the arrest of a young art student is watched in silence. Is it only Economics? Today it is Paintings and books, tomorrow it will be films (not that we have not already faced it with films like Parzania, Fire, Rang De Basanti).
It is time we woke up from our apathy and self centeredness and realise we are a part of the bigger art Family or rather conscious citizens who want to stand up for their basic democratic/ human rights.
The sound of silence speaks volumes- about how selfish and self centric we are. We need to speak up.... Our silences only encourages the powers of repression. we are guilty in our silence.

Box office analysis
Exclusive by Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Friday, May 18, 2007]
First weekend performance of latest release
Why has there been so much brouhaha around the average opening of METRO? Who was actually expecting the film to open with an earth shattering response? Was the movie ever meant to begin with a bang and recover its investment in 3 days flat? Wasn't it always meant to be a movie that would pick up mainly on word of mouth if the product was indeed good? And pray, who expected it to be create serpentine queues at centres outside metros and other major cities?
All of this makes me surprised (yet again, after TA RA RUM PUM) to see obituaries been written about a film soon after the first show has commenced. Arrey, give the film a breather. At least wait for the first weekend for the film to get over! And especially for a film like METRO where a lot is dependent upon the first week to complete and at least a week more to follow, one needs to be a little more patient.
This is what exactly has worked for METRO....the patience factor. After an average opening, the word of mouth for the film (as expected, in the urban centres) has been quite good. Audience can be seen relating to the film's subject and recommending it to people around in a big way. As of now, the film is en route to turn out to be a decent first week earner and with reports looking positive, it should turn out to be a good success for Anurag Basu and UTV.
GOOD BOY BAD BOY was never meant to be a great cinema but even for people who like their cinema to be no-brainer-masala-entertainer, this Emraan Hashmi-Tusshar Kapoor film didn't turn out to be a satisfying affair. There were select set of audience and some pockets in the country where the film saw a sizeable chunk in the opening weekend, but the word of mouth wasn't quite happening. On shaky grounds, this comedy is currently struggling to stand on its feet. Controversies surrounding the entire production of the film with reported rift between the cast, crew and the maker is not helping the cause either.
Last week's movies
YATRA was the sole release of the week and it's stint at the theatres too was only for a sole week! Collecting 25 lakhs in the first week (even this amount sounds surprising as one would have expected way lower than this), the film has marched out of theatres and is barely in the running. A film which doesn't have much scope even in DVD or satellite circuits.
From the past
A 50% industry standard fall in the second week confirms that TA RA RUM PUM has turned out to be decent, if not blockbuster, at the box office. With 8.5 crores more coming in and the total moving to 26 crores, the film has done well at the box office and now gets into a comfort zone from where it starts earning profits.
The film did fall by more than 50% in Mumbai where it slid from 4.25 crore to 2 crore while even in Delhi the collections fell from 2.5 crore to 1 crore. Though one was apprehensive about SPIDERMAN 3 wave hitting it extremely hard, it hasn't quite happened and the film has managed to survive the scare. It's all about how well does this family entertainer manage to consolidate from hereon.
BIG BROTHER manages to live on for yet another week and gets 15 lakhs more in its kitty to bring it's total close to 7 crore. An earner in most circuits [barring Mumbai and a few more], the film has given an account of Sunny Deol's continued popularity amongst his loyal fans.
BHEJA FRY continues to rock the show as it elevates to Superhit status with yet another superb week. Bringing in another 80 lakhs with the total crossing 6.5 crore, it has proved to be the second highest earning movie of the week when it comes to Hindi films.
Meanwhile NAMASTEY LONDON continues to earn moolah and even in it's 7th week, it got home another 40 lakhs to inch closer to 37 crore mark. VIVAH, at 32.5 crores saw its collections on a lower side with 10 lakhs more coming in.
In the future
RAQEEB and EK CHALIS KI LAST LOCAL are the two thrillers of the week! Both of them see debutant directors (Anurag Singh, Sanjay Khanduri) trying to make their mark in the world of Bollywood. With decent promotion to support, the films are known amongst the audience though a lot will depend upon the word of mouth to pull them through. There is not much that one is looking from an opening point of view though it would be interesting to see how the final product eventually turns out to be.

Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Monday, May 21, 2007]
Concept of singles is still to catch up in India.
Though Euphoria has tried it once while Karan Johar too kick started the campaign of K3G with the title song as the first single to arrive on stands, the trend is still trying to find its way into the Indian music market. On these grounds, Jazzy B has tried to do something different with 'Kaun Nach Di', a single which is the only track in the album.
To compensate for the lack of any other track, there are as many as 5 different versions of 'Kaun Nach Di' for his fans to pick and choose from. Adnan to Dance in his Video 'Baarish' For the First Time!!!!
IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, May 22, 2007]
Adnan Sami's latest album with T-Series ' Kisi Din' has already made waves with his songs topping all charts.
Now for the first time you will find him dancing to his own song!! The third video from the same album "Baarish" will see the artiste grooving and moving to the disco beats of the song!!! Interestingly, with all his weight loss and all, Adnan looks quite dapper and in his element serenading a pretty lady.
The song, set in a haunted house, looks funky and Adnan simply rocks!!! In fact, if Adnan continues this trend of dancing to his songs, we might just witness a few actors getting the jitters quite soon. After all it's not often that we get a package deal where a singer has created a niche for himself, can dance and to top it off has all the pretty women eating out of his hands!!! Looks like Adnan's hit the main league this time. Bollywood calling Mr.Sami??? |

After Emraan, it is Mallika's turn to go 'Ya Ali'
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, May 22, 2007]
Amongst his dozen odd hits, Emraan Hashmi would certainly place 'Ya Ali' [GANGSTER] in at least one of his Top-3 hits ever.
Now the co-star of his first big hit [MURDER], Mallika Sherawat, too is seen lip synching to 'Ya Ali' though the setting is completely different. She gyrates to the namesake track for her upcoming release AAP KAA SURROOR - THE MOVIEE where she reportedly plays a negative character.
Sunidhi Chauhan sings for Mallika in a westernized mode with her voice suiting Mallika's on-screen appearance.
Also featuring the lead cast of the film, Himesh Reshammiya and Riya, 'Ya Ali' is set as a party track where Mallika is shown to be falling in love with the composer/singer/actor as he renders the track. |
