Liverpool interested in out-of-favour Atletico midfielder Garcia
Liverpool have been linked with a £6.5million move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Raul Garcia.
The 25-year-old cost almost £9million when Atletico signed him from Osasuna five years ago, but he will be allowed to leave after falling out of boss Diego Simeone’s plans.
Brendan Rodgers may well feel the need to beef up Liverpool’s midfield options given the poor form shown by Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson when playing in central roles last term and a move for Raul Garcia would be a cost effective move to make.
The former Spanish under 21 international had a stand-out season on loan at Osasuna last term, notching up 11 goals from a midfield role helping the Pamplona based side to their best finish in seven seasons.
The 25 year old was a regular at the Vicente Calderon for four seasons before being farmed out back to his former club where he displayed a return to form that could well help force his way back into the Atletico Madrid first team despite reports of a bust-up with boss Diego Simeone.
Rodgers has been linked with a raft of possible new additions to the Anfield squad that he inherited from Kenny Dalglish and given Liverpool’s inability to make up ground with the Premier League’s top four it would appear logical that the former Swansea City boss would like to make significant changes to his playing staff. |
