Imported used cars to get PARF benefit
By Foo Siew Shyan, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 24 August 2007 1952 hrs
SINGAPORE : From September 1, imported used cars registered in Singapore will be eligible for the Preferential Additional Registration Fee (PARF) benefit.
The scheme, introduced in 1975 to encourage the timely replacement of old cars, is currently applicable only to new cars.
To enjoy the benefit, the car owner will have to de-register his car before it reaches 10 years old.
Meanwhile, also from September 1, one can use the PARF benefit and COE rebates to offset the upfront taxes and fees payable when buying a new or imported used car.
The PARF benefit will be granted to the last registered owner upon de-registration of the imported used vehicle. - CNA/ms |

Imported used cars now more attractive to buyers
MOTORISTS looking to buy mid-to high-end marques, but do not mind a used car, will have more and possibly cheaper models to choose from, with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) liberalising the import of cars.
Changing a regulation put in place in the 1970s, the LTA said on Friday that used cars imported to Singapore will now be eligible for a scrap rebate.
Owners get the rebate or preferential additional registration fee (Parf) if they de-register their cars before the tenth year. The rebate can be used to offset taxes for a new car.
The LTA's new rule takes effect from Sept 1, and applies to vehicles no older than three years.
One other rule affecting imported cars stays unchanged however.
Importers will still have to pay a $10,000 surcharge for used cars, on top of all the usual taxes and the certificate of entitlement (COE) required for owning a car here.
The rule on PARF benefits was introduced more than 30 years ago to keep the vehicle population young.
But the industry had argued that there are now adequate environmental laws and an absolute control on vehicle population - the Certificate of Entitlement system - making it possible for the rules to be revised.

Car showrooms see surge in customers after dips in COE prices
By Valarie Tan, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 25 August 2007 2059 hrs
SINGAPORE: Car dealers are having a busy weekend after prices for Certificates of Entitlement (COE) dropped on Wednesday.
COE prices fell across the board, except for goods vehicles and buses.
Drivers flocked to the showrooms, and the hunt was on for smaller models as COE prices for cars below 1600cc fell by over 50 per cent - from S$17,000 to just slightly over S$8,118.
Despite the recent announcement to extend ERP (Electronic Road Pricing) charging hours and set up more gantries, many still want their own sets of wheels.
"I was trying to get a car for the past six months or so. But I wasn't very sure. When I heard about the COE drop, I thought this is the right time," said a member of the public.
"The recent drop in the COE was very sweet. We saved about $5,000 on the car. And obviously we felt that we got value for money," said another.
Small cars, such as Toyota Vios, are going for slightly over S$50,000, roughly S$4,000 cheaper than usual. - CNA/ac |

DAPAT KERETA BARU DAN $7,000 BILA COE JATUH
Oleh
Nadzri Eunos

COE prices for cars up across the board
By Wong Mun Wai, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 05 September 2007 1709 hrs
SINGAPORE: The Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices for cars rose across the board in the latest open bidding exercise, which ended on Wednesday.
The biggest jump was for small cars, which rose by S$9,881 to S$17,999.
For big cars (more than 1,600cc), the COE price was S$2,190 higher at S$18,200, while that for the open category rose by S$2,021 to S$19,323.
Meanwhile, COE prices for goods vehicles and buses rose by S$2,649 to S$9,539.
The COE price for motorcycles, however, went down by S$108 to S$1,081.
Dealers said the reason for the rebound in COE price for small cars is the unusual low price in the last bidding round, prompting some people to buy cars.
They noted the previous low price was due to a mix of factors, one of which was the volatile stock market.
Dealers predicted the COE prices would rise further in the next few rounds, adding that the prices would depend on the number of COEs available after the upcoming half yearly review. - CNA/ir |

Ha'ah Mi....u bayar annual fee as member, then as and when you nak pakai keta tu, u buat booking. Very easy coz u can book online. Tapi Chic calculate, naik taxi lagi murah....ada dreber lagi....
Tapi of course yg suka memandu tu, good option la. It's cheaper then owning a car. |

Ckp pasal bawak anjing naik keta, org2 kat sini mmg gemar bawak anjing jejalan naik kereta or naik lori kecik tu. Kkdg kesian tgk anjing dia naik kat belakang lori. Kesian sbb angin bertiup, dan anjing tak leh bokak mata.
Tapi kalau beli keta secondhand kat sini mmg kena bersihkan betul2. Sbbnye spt diatas. Anjing selalu berjalan ngan tuan dlm kereta, like my husband's aunt. |
