MSL Round Report: Perak take charge of Super League standings while Selangor and LionsXII play out a drawThe Seladangs continued their impressive form by defeating Sarawak 2-1 while the derby clash between Selangor and LionsXII failed to replicate all the pre-match hype.
Perak became the new Super League table leaders after overcoming Sarawak in a rather one-sided affair at the Perak stadium. The Seladangs took an early lead courtesy of aMichal Kubala strike in the seventh minute. Fahrul Razi then increased their lead in the 24th minute with a well taken header, before Vedran Murotovich reduced the deficit with a well-taken penalty in the 33rd minute. The score remained until final whistle as Perak sealed their fifth victory of the season.
Elsewhere, the derby clash between Selangor and LionsXII could not generate much sparks with both sides being contented with a draw. The away side took the lead in the 43rd minute through a brilliant strike from Shahril Ishak. However, their joy was shortlived as K. Gurusamy restored parity with a majestic long range effort in the 45th minute. Both sides missed a flurry of chances as the scoreline remained until the final whistle
Meanwhile, Sabah held Kelantan to a 0-0 draw in a pulsating encounter at the Likas Stadium. The defending champions dominated the tempo for most of the match, but were unable to extert their killing instincts on the final third. Negeri Sembilan got back to winning ways after a 2-1 comeback victory against T-Team on home turf. Zairo Anuar Zalani gave the visitors an early lead but were pegged back by a resilient Negeri side. Jean-Emmanuel Effa Owona netted the equalizer before Ahmad Shakir Ali continued his impressive form by smashing in the winner for Azraai Khor's men.
Terengganu failed to capitalize on Kelantan's slip-up against Sabah by being held to a disappointing draw with PKNS FC.Francis Doe Forkey opened the scoreline with his fifth goal of the season, giving Terengganu a much-deserved lead. However, Helmi Rameli came back to haunt his former club by restoring parity for PKNS in a tightly contested affair at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium.
It was a great day for Kedah fans as the Canaries sealed their first victory of the season against fellow strugglers Kuala Lumpur. Kyril Muhymeen netted the only goal of the match early in the first half, but the scoreline could have been much more cruel to Kuala Lumpur, with Kedah's total domination throughout the match. However, they were far from clinical in front of goal as the scoreline remained until the end of the match.
Lastly, 10 men Felda United came back from the brink of defeat with a stunning equalizer in the dying minutes of the clash against Johor FC. K. Devan's side debuted their new signing, Fernando Augusto, and the former Racing Santander man impressed in defence. Syazwan Zainon scored the opening goal for the Lebahs before Irfan Ghani was sent off after receiving two yellow cards. MSL Round Report: LionsXII flourish on home turf, Kelantan conquer East Coast derby.
LionsXII sealed a terrific home win after beating Negeri Sembilan 3-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium. V. Sundramoorthy's men were evidently the better side from the beginning and they took a much deserved lead through a Shahril Ishak penalty on the half-hour mark. Shahdan Sulaiman increased their lead in the 50th minute, before Shahril netted his second of the night 10 minutes later. Negeri did pull one back late on through Mohd Firdaus but it proved to be a mere consolation as the Lions pulled off an impressive victory.
Elsewhere, Perak's short stint at the top of the Super League table came to an end yesterday as T-Team defeated them 2-0 on home turf. K. Nanthakumar's absence from the starting line-up was sorely missed as goals from Bojan Petric and the in-form Zairo Anuar Zalani were enough for T-Team to earn a valuable victory. ]Michal Kubala forced a late Perak onslaught but it was not enough to deny the home side from a terrific result.
Selangor's topsy-turvy season took another wild turn as the Red Giants succumbed to a 0-2 defeat to PKNS FC. Irfan Bakti's men continued to justify their obtuse attack as Rudie Ramli netted the opening goal for PKNS. Helmi Rameli then continued his solid form by netting the second goal, which ultimately settled the tie as Selangor's terrible start to the season continued,
Kelantan scored a massive 2-1 victory over arch rivals Terengganu in the East Coast derby. Norshahrul Idlan Talaha was yet again the man that opened the scoring for the Red Warriors before skipper Badri Radzi doubled their lead. Mohamed Ghaddar had a great chance to make it three but his penalty was brilliantly saved by Sharbinee Alawee. Ashaari Shamsuddin scored a late consolation for the Turtles but it took nothing away from Kelantan's dominanat performance.
Sarawak picked up their second victory of the season, courtesy of a 2-1 win over Felda United in Kuching. The Settlers initially took the lead through Mohd Firdaus, but Robert Alberts move to bring on Ashri Chuchu at half time proved to be a perfect catalyst. Vedran Muratovich restored parity for the Crocs before Ashri popped up with an impeccable late winner to conclude a glorious night for Sarawak fans.
Sabah showed tremendous grit and determination to secure a comeback 2-2 draw against Kedah despite being a man down for the last 20 minutes of the match. Justin Ganai's men initially took the lead through an own goal by Sabri Yaakop, but Kedah netted two goals within the space of 10 minutes to take over the lead. Nonetheless, Shahrudin Yakop restored parity for the Rhinos and despite Brendan Gan's early bath, they held on for a crucial point away from home.
Elswhere, Kuala Lumpur scrappy season showed no signs of healing down as they suffered their sixth defeat of the season to Johor FC yesterday. K.Devan's side were predominant throughout the match as goals from Haris Safuan and Jasazrin proved to be enough for an easy victory. Razil Ismail gave his Zakaria Charara and Emmanuel Okine their debuts but while Zakaria threatened occassionally, Okine had a match to forget after getting sent off. |
