Liverpool Launch £15.7m Bid for Highly Rated Real Madrid Attacker

Brendan Rodgers clearly know Jose Mourinho very well from their time working together at Stamford Bridge and this could well have led to the speculation surrounding a Liverpool bid for Real Madrid attacker Jose Callejon. The 25 year old adaptable forward finally made a tangible impact at the Bernabeu side last term having struggled to get a look-in at the Spanish giants.

Callejon was at Real Madrid from age 15 to 21, working his way through the club’s youth ranks and into their second string sides but was then offloaded to Espanyol where he began to make a name for himself following three successful seasons at the Barcelona based side.

Then in the summer of 2011 Real Madrid paid £3.8m to bring the player back to the club and Callejon didn’t waste the opportunity to impress Mourinho. The Granada born forward, who can play either as a support striker as well as on either wing, made a total of 36 appearances of which only 11 were starts and racked up 13 goals including five whilst on Champions League duty.

However with Mourinho said to be looking to add to his striking options, having only two other recognised senior forwards in Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain, Callejon may find next term a struggle.

Rodgers can certainly do with alternative attacking options having a fairly threadbare attack with Luis Suarez perhaps the only effective option to turn to, though veteran Craig Bellamy did make a successful return to the Merseyside club. Andy Carroll showed sign of real improvement as last term wore on and did well at the Euro 2012 finals but other options are needed and Callejon could be a very useful player to make a move for.

Liverpool to Make Offer for Arsenal Winger Theo Walcott as Gunners Contract Talks Stall

Anfield boss expresses interest in Emirates Stadium wide-man.

Liverpool are reportedly readying an opening offer for Arsenal winger Theo Walcott. The England international has just a year to run on his current contract and with talks said to have stalled between the winger and his North London club a number of prospective suitors are said to be considering registering bids for the 23 year old.

Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to improve his wide attacking options after both Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson struggled to impress in their debut seasons at the Merseyside club. The former Swansea City boss will look to make an offer for the Arsenal man as he sets about plans to improve a squad that only managed an eighth place finish last season.

Arsene Wenger has seen captain Robin Van Persie publicly state his intention to leave the Emirates Stadium and may see Walcott push for an exit as well. If Liverpool are to succeed in luring the England international to Merseyside they will have to match his wage demands, demands that the Gunners board seem reticent to agree to.

Though Liverpool boss Rodgers is thought to be operating on a smaller budget than that offered to previous incumbent Kenny Dalglish, who spent £120m on new players during his brief second spell as boss, the 39 year old has been promised significant sums to invest in players.

Rodgers failed in his attempts to lure Gylfi Sigurdsson, who opted instead to move to Tottenham, but still has a number of targets in mind and will hope that the promise of a possibility of a new era of success at Liverpool could help to persuade Theo Walcott to consider a move to a side who does not have Champions League football to offer the former Southampton man this coming season.

Sterling and Suso: Two Liverpool Youngsters Who Could Break Into the First Team Under Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers is yet to make a new signing for Liverpool but there is a growing belief that he will look to implement a number of young players into the first team squad next season.

However, perhaps the two players that are drawing the most excitement from Liverpool fans if the duo of Raheem Sterling and Suso. Let's start with the young Spanish midfielder.

Jesus Joquin Fernandez Saez de la Torre, more commonly known as Suso, was brought to the club by Rafa Bentiez and is in a similar mould to a number of the current Spanish side with his diminutive frame and excellent passing ability.

"I was going to sign for Real Madrid but one day before it the phone rang and Rafael Benitez spoke to me. He convinced me that Liverpool was the club for me and after that I had to change my plans. I was going to come to Liverpool," revealed Suso.

Journalist on Transfer Signings: Do you plan to sign any new players before the pre-season tour? We’ve heard reports of Real Madrid rejecting a sizeable bid for Granero…is there any news on new transfer signings?

BR: [smiling] All I’m going to say is that as is the Liverpool way, I’m not going to say anything and we’ll do our business behind closed doors. The reality is that it’s not as many players as we’ve been linked to and there are very few, real targets. We made 3 or 4 inquiries and we’ll be looking to close one, hopefully two by the end of this week.

sape la agak2 nye....

Granero Link Emerges – What Does He Offer?

Liverpool are being heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Esteban Granero. In the wake of manager Brendan Rodgers confirming he expects two players to sign for Liverpool this week, many are now convinced that Liverpool are in advanced talks with the La Liga Champions about bringing the Spanish midfielder to Anfield.

Granero has had limited opportunities in Madrid with the likes of Mesut Ozil and Kaka pushing him down the pecking order in the Real Madrid team and many are tipping him to seek a move away in search of first-team football this Summer.

So, what does Granero offer? The first thing that comes to mind is his creative ability. Liverpool lacked this in abundance last season and his creative spark would surely be welcomed at Anfield as would his movement off the ball.

Technically, he his typically Spanish. He has a great pass on him and has the ability to cause problems and find gaps in opposition defences. He is also very good at running with the ball and one of Liverpool’s problems last season was lack of midfield runners who would penetrate defences and Granero would add this extra piece of the puzzle to Liverpool.

Granero also has impressive set-piece ability in his locker, with a very good cross on him and a good free kick. Very composed on the ball one would expect that the pace of the Premiership wouldn’t present much of a problem for him.

So Granero’s attributes seem to match what Liverpool are looking for in an attacking midfielder. Personally, I would be happy with this signing if reports are true and it comes to pass. What are your thoughts fellow LFC fans?

Liverpool unveil new 'Mighty Red' mascot

The Reds introduced a new community representative at a children's party on the weekend, with the reception ranging from glee from the youngsters to embarrassment for the elders

Liverpool have unveiled a new team mascot - the ‘Liver Bird’, based on the symbol of the city.

The figure, nicknamed, ‘Mighty Red’ has been created to appeal to the younger generation of Reds fans, however the poor ‘bird’ was met by a mixed reception at a children’s party on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool have never had a pitch-side mascot to represent the club and it seems that the American owners are set to continue this tradition, with the new recruit solely being used for community events to entertain children.

And while the mascot went down well with the younger members of the audience, the older generation were less than impressed.

One onlooker told the Daily Mail: “It looks ridiculous. We'll be a laughing stock if this thing appears on the touchline. It's just more Americanisation of the club.”

“While it's fine for the kids - it will be good at children's parties - and is marginally better than the utterly dreadful Olympics mascots, just keep it away from Anfield.”

Another audience member, however, was much more receptive of ‘Mighty Red’, stressing how much of a hit the bird was with the children.

The fan, who seemingly wanted to remain anonymous, added: “I was there for the launch of Mighty Red and he went down brilliantly with the kids, who are the intended targets for this mascot.”

'They ran like mad to get their goodie bags off him, they danced around him and queued up to have their pictures taken. They loved him!'

‘Mighty Red’ isn’t the first mascot to have gone down like a lead balloon in Merseyside, with Everton unforgettably attempting to introduce ‘Mr Toffee’ in the 1990s. He lasted a year on the Goodison Park touchline before being given his marching orders.
