Andrei Arshavin Boards Plane To London
The Russian playmaker is on his way from St. Petersburg to London for further talks, according to reports in England.
Andrei Arshavin has reportedly boarded a private jet that is flying him over to London for further talks regarding a possible move to Arsenal, Sky Sports News reports.
It had been reported that, although a fee had been agreed between the Gunners and Zenit, believed to be at least £20 million, the player's wage demands were proving a significant stumbling block to the completion of the deal.
It now looks as though the player will begin discussions once more with the north London outfit though, and he may well be asked to temper his demands in the light of the move being such a potentially significant one in his career.
Arshavin, at the age of 27 an established player and therefore an unusual choice of transfer target for Arsene Wenger, who prefers to sign up-and-coming players whom he can develop, must consider the chance to play in a major European league carefully as it may not come again.
Wenger himself was realtively optimisitic when discussing the move after his team's uninspiring 0-0 draw with West Ham United at the Emirates.
"We are not far away and we have a bit of time now this game is over," he said. "We will see what we can do in the next 24 hours. I don't know if I'm confident or not. With the experience I have, anything can happen in a transfer."
It now looks as though the seemingly interminable wait for Arsenal fans may at last be coming to an end, as Arshavin travels to England tonight.
