New Moon rises to No.1

TWILIGHT TRIO: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
30 Nov β In the United States, "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" sinked its fangs deeper into the weekend box office (Nov 26β29) as it topped the charts for second week running. However, Eonline reports that after a record breaking opening weekend, "New Moon"'s ticket sales dropped nearly 70% from Friday to Sunday, garnering US$42.5 million if early estimates hold. Still, the sequel's total box office now stands at US$230.7 million and US$473.7 million worldwide according to online tracker Box Office Mojo.
Meanwhile in Malaysia, "New Moon" takings for the opening frame alone (Nov 26-29) is already not too far off from the entire box office run of "Twilight" last year which registered an approximate RM3.2 million, according to Tayangan Unggul. GSC Mid Valley's cinema manager Mr Lee Kong Yew said, "'New Moon' had a really good response despite it being the week-long school holidays and Hari Raya Haji celebration where a lot of people would normally go back to their hometowns."
The film also had a positive response during the 4-day island-wide sneak previews in Singapore where it "outperformed the sneaks of its predecessor 'Twilight'", according to movie distributor Shaw Organisation. The film is set to release in Singapore on 3 December 2009. Meanwhile, disaster epic "2012" is seen is seen to have no signs of crumbling in its third week in Johor Bahru as showtimes were spotted to be sold out at TGV Tebrau.

In line with the film, numerous polls online have gottenTwilighters' tongues wagging with the major debate of "Team Edward orTeam Jacob?". Cinema Online readers have voted over the past week andthe result is neck and neck, with Team Edward taking the lead at 466votes. |
