Manchester City's Edin Dzeko believes Manchester United are still Premier League title favourites
The Bosnian insists that "United are United" despite the Blues being five points clear at the top and attempted to clear up his negative reaction to being substituted in Germany
Following City's 6-1 demolition of United at Old Trafford last weekend, the Blues preserved their five-point cushion with a 3-1 victory over Wolves at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Despite their position at the top of the table, former Wolfsburg attacker Dzeko admits "United are United" and that they are still favourites to retain their crown.
"I still don't think we are favourites," the Bosnian said, as quoted by the Guardian.
"There are still a lot of games to play. We have played 10 matches and are five points clear of Manchester United but for me they are still favourites for the title. We are first and want to stay there but United are United, although we are growing up with every game."
Dzeko was embroiled in controversy last month after his negative reaction to being substituted against Bayern Munich in the Champions League but the 25-year-old insists that he apologised after the game and that it was normal for him to be angry after failing to score.
"I apologised afterwards," he added. "Sometimes, it is hard when you play badly and don't score goals. Sometimes, you are angry and that is normal. I played for two and a half years in Germany. I wanted to win and maybe score a goal. In Munich we played well for the first 30 minutes and then nothing." |

Man United vs Otelul Galati Player Ratings
Man United
David De Gea - 8
De Gea proved his maturity in handling after making all of Otelul Galati's efforts from far and crosses in with ease.
It's hard to believe this is the same De Gea who looked uncomfortable with any shots coming in from range and struggled to claim crosses into the box earlier in the season. Made a stunning one-on-one save to deny Ionut Neagu in the first half.
Phil Jones - 8.5
He's only 18 but he was United's best player in the match, patrolling the right flank tirelessly. Jones was the one that provided the cross that led to the early goal.
He was unlucky not to score his first United goal after a creative one-two with Valencia and a quick twist left him with a free shot that was headed away by Sergiu Costin.
Rio Ferdinand - 6
Sir Alex Ferguson raised his concern over Ferdinand's lack of speed and the same point was emphasized in the match itself.
Ferdinand was facing Neagu alone but was too slow to react as Neagu simply poked the ball past him and won the following chase. Someone needs to tell Ferdinand that being so slow that he seems to go in reverse won't turn back the time and bring the young Ferdinand back.
Credit to him, though, he held solid and managed to produce a clean sheet.
Jonny Evans (Off 90') - 6.5
A better performance from Evans after his horror show against Manchester City, but he still needs to improve if he wants to keep a Manchester United jersey on his back at the start of next season.
He still showed some poor decision-making, like after a needless two-footed tackle on Marius Pena when the striker was near the halfway line and not in any way threatening De Gea. And that is saying something given the amount of ridiculously far away shots the Spaniard has to handle.
Fabio Da Silva - 7.5
The Brazilian was impressive going forward, as most footballers from his country are, and was hardly tested at the back. His overlapping play with Nani created some of United's best chances. It remains to be seen if he will be as impressive going up against a more attacking side than Otelul Galati.
Antonio Valencia - 6.5
Valencia was on hand to poke home the ball to give United an early lead but other than that, he has been quite dismal. The lack of match practice is obvious in his play. The usually-sharp Ecuadorian was dismal in terms of delivery and hardly provided a proper cross into the middle.
A shadow of the cutting-edge Valencia last season.
Wayne Rooney - 8
Played in a deeper role as a center midfielder, Rooney was steady and sprayed passes all over the pitch with ease. Brought stability and creativity to the midfield that was often-criticised as dull by critics without Cleverley.
However, one couldn't quite shake the feeling that Rooney would have been a better creative influence if he was played further upfield.
Anderson (Off 80') - 6.5
A very sloppy performance in the first 45 minutes from Anderson, giving away the ball too easy in many occasions. He improved and looked sharper after the break, almost managed a goal that was cleared off the line by Costin.
Luis Nani - 6
Nani was subdued by the crampness in the Otelul flanks and at many times cut a frustrated figure at being unable to get through the crowded Otelul half.
Michael Owen (Off 11') - 7
Didn't have much time on the pitch after injuring his thigh but managed to make a positive influence by helping on Jones' cross for Valencia to score.
Dimitar Berbatov - 6.5
Showed some good first touches but it was his final touch that let him down. Berbatov managed to find his teammates well enough but he had more than a few chances to put his name on the scoresheet if he had been more clinical.
Substitutes
Javier Hernandez (On 11') - 6.5
Impressive movement to cause Otelul's defence a headache. Hernandez still looks lost whenever he takes more than three touches of the ball though, and needs to work on that aspect of his game.
Park Ji-Sung (On 80') - N/A
Ezekiel Fryers (On 90') - N/A
Otelul Galati
Branko Grahovac - 7
The Bosnian international showed some safe hands to deny United throughout and couldn't do anything about the two goals conceded.
Cornel Rapa - 6.5
He impressed in the reverse fixture and continued his fine form, keeping Nani a forlorn figure out in the flank.
Cristian Sarghi - 7
Did well to hold solid against Berbatov and Hernandez's barrage of runs and was available to head away Jone's goal-bound shot. He was unlucky to have redirected Rooney's hopeful shot into his own net.
Sergiu Costin - 8
A magnificent display from Costin as he managed to track Hernandez's sneaky movements to slide in and deny the Mexican plenty of chances. He also rescued Anderson's flick off the line.
Adrian Salageanu - 5.5
Salageanu looked comfortable going up against Valencia but struggled when Jones came on the overlap.
Silviu Ilie (Off 53') - 5
An anonymous display from the defensive midfielder as he failed to track bursting runs from Fabio and Anderson, leaving more work for the men he was supposed to protect to do.
Liviu Antal (Off 62') - 5.5
Antal lacked the penetration to capitalise on Fabio's attacking tendencies. Rightfully brought off on the hour mark to make way for the more energetic Sorin Frunza.
Ioan Filip - 5.5
Played as a defensive midfielder and was troubled by Rooney all the time. Failed to stick to the England striker enough to deny him the space.
Ionut Neagu - 7
Neagu was the best attacking option for the Romanian side, bursting free of Ferdinand easily and had a couple of chances where he could have put his side on level terms if not for De Gea's reflexes.
Gabriel Giurgiu (Off 81') - 5.5
Giurgiu was isolated and cut off from his teammate most of the time. Didn't manage to threaten United as much as he would have liked and lacked the necessary energy that might have easily made United's defence nervous.
Marius Pena - 6
Led his team on the attack but needed more of the ball to work with. He did bug Evans enough to make the defender slide in on a rash challenge though.
Substitutes
Sorin Frunză (On 53') - 6.5
Sparked his side to life after coming on, always threatening and looking sharp with the ball at his feet.
Laurenţiu Iorga (62') - N/A
Gabriel Paraschiv (On 81') - N/A
