Muslim cast and crew members of My Name Is Khan denied US visas
By now its common knowledge that after doing all the publicity and promotional drive for Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Shah Rukh Khan has embarked along with good friend Karan Johar to Los Angeles for the shooting of his next film My Name Is Khan. The film re-unites the super-hit jodi of SRK and Kajol after a hiatus of nearly 7 years (they were last seen in Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001)
However, even before shooting could commence in full swing, the unit of My Name Is Khan has been hit by a roadblock. Some Muslim members from the cast and crew of the film have been denied US visas. Among these include SRK's personal staff and also actor Aamir Bashir (who was last seen in A Wednesday).
Post the Mumbai terror attacks, the US consulate has become extremely cautious of issuing visas and reports say that despite telling them that they were going for a shoot, the authorities didn't budge.
Now the rejected members, left with no option, have submitted fresh applications and are praying for better luck this time around.
All those who love the lavish song and dances, the typical Indian values and traditions, and the stuff that most NRIs feast on in the typical Karan Johar brand of cinema, are in for a major disappointment. The reason being that Karan has categorically stated that Dostana was the last of the Karan Johar stereotype film. And this has nothing do with the fact that Dostana was not as huge a success as Karan had expected it to be.
Karan says that he has realized that it is high time that he, like other directors, reinvents himself and do stuff which would make him as well as India proud. And for that he has made a conscious effort to move away from the norm and do some serious stuff. He gives the example of three films, all belonging to different genres that are presently being made under Dharma Productions. The film that he is directing, My Name is Khan, has the top most actor, Shahrukh Khan and actress Kajol, yet the film is very different. No typical romance and song and dance stuff here. The next film, the Rensil D'Silva directed Saif, Kareena and Vivek starrer too is not the usual love triangle. And the third is Wake Up Sid, the Ayaan Mukherjee directed Ranbir flick, which once again is not a hard core commercial film.
Well, Karan we will miss your kind of films but you are on the right track and here is a gut feeling that you will make Hindi cinema proud with your achievements, not that you haven't till now!
