Chelsea to make bid for Modric
Chelsea are set to make Luka Modric a big money offer to move from Tottenham Hotspur.
According to reports in the Sun, the Premier League big-spenders are keen to offer the Croatian ￡130,000 a week swap White Hart Lane for Stamford Bridge, tripling his current ￡50,000-a-week deal.
The Blues seek to add some guile to their midfield, and is currently one of their top summer targets, apart from a right-back and winger.
Modric currently still has three years of his deal to run at Tottenham, and is rated at ￡15 million.
Chelsea want to add some much-needed flair and creativity to a squad that ended last season empty handed.
According to quotes from a Chelsea source, the club's lack of a manager will not stop them from bringing in new blood for the next Barclays Premier League season.
The Sun reported their Chelsea contact as saying: "Not having a manager yet won't slow anything down.
"There's a hitlist of players to sign and Modric is right at the top of it."
Captain John Terry is confident that there will be fresh faces at the club sooner than later.
Terry said: "We made two fantastic signings in January in Fernando Torres and David Luiz. They have really freshened the club up, and hopefully there will be some more new signings." |

Porto announced earlier on Tuesday that Villas-Boas had resigned and that the coach had told the club his 15 million euro (￡13.3 million) release clause would be activated.
The fee has now been paid to Porto, who have appointed Villas-Boas's former assistant Vitor Pereira as his replacement at Estadio Dragao.
A statement from the club read: "Porto has received from Andre Villas-Boas the amount foreseen in the release clause of this employment contract."
Chelsea subsequently confirmed they hope to agree personal terms with Villas-Boas, who took Porto to the league title unbeaten last season, as well as winning the Portuguese Cup and the Europa League.
A statement from the Premier League club read: "We note that the release clause of Andre Villas-Boas has been activated. We can at this time confirm our interest in him and hope to reach agreement with him on personal terms and make a further announcement in the near future." |
