I’m going to tentatively say something here. Tentatively, because it’s just an opinion and I can’t speak for Korean culture or customs. Feel free to tell me if you think I say anything wrong.
The RM cast has been family for a long, long, while. It’s understandable that they’d play around with each other - and sometimes we forget six of them are male and one is female. Of course this thing with JK’s underwear is toeing the line of what is probably appropriate to broadcast - but let’s talk about what their intentions were.
Firstly, they’d probably never have done this if there were female guests on the show - or indeed, any other guests that were sunbaes or they were less familiar with. BIGBANG are all men, and so are most of the staff of RM. Notice that immediately after they do what they did to JK, the shot pans to Ji Hyo turning away, and later on, they show that the female staff have backed away a bit, too. It’s also to be noticed that Ji Hyo disappears from the game immediately after the incident.
Secondly - It is…less…of an issue in Korea when people of the same sex see each other naked. They have public bathhouses and the RM cast are practically brothers.
Thirdly - they didn’t leave him entirely uncovered. They gave him a jacket to cover up with and only laughed for a moment about his underwear before handing it back to him.
So…in conclusion I’d say it was toeing the line - but they’re all brothers and you don’t see JK being overly angry about it. The RM cast is close enough that they can all joke about it.
And let’s not forget how often they tried to strip Kwang Soo. And invading Gary’s privacy when he was sleeping totally naked.
We fans protective about Kim Jong Kook but our rant would only cause him trouble. he sacrified himself to make us laugh. Let’s appreciate his effort by enoying the show
I agree. I guess some fans forgot that one episode with Jung Woo Sung where JK pull KS’ shorts and, with them, his underwear and the production team had to put a big question mark to cover KS’ private part. Or when Jae Suk (and Suk Jin, I think?) entered KS’ bathroom in a pension his team paid for while he was showering. So you know, this has happened before and nobody really complained? I don’t know, maybe I missed things…
If anything, I think KS punching and elbowing JK (right before the stripping happened) was more alarming to me.
At the same time, I guess I kinda understand some fans’ need to protect JK (although I don’t think he needs it; he’s a big mature man who’s able to protect himself and can make his own decisions), so yeah, I get where the anger is coming from.

You guys are all so double standard. If it was Jongkook who had pulled another member’s underwear off, he would have been hated so much instead of being shrugged off like this.
1. How is public bathhouse comparable to being what’s shown on broadcast? You know what broadcast means? It means it’s being shown to the whole South Korea, and out of it. Your underwear gets stripped off and shown to everyone who tuned in to watch RM. Elderly. Working Adults. Teen. Children. Wow. Totally nothing big about this.
2. Are Jihyo and the female staff not females? Do they not matter?
3. You guys say JK isn’t overly angry about it. Even if he is angry, what can he do about it? Made a fuss about it? Quit filming halfway? If you are his fan, you jolly know well that JK isn’t one to do anything that would compromise filming. He will endure it and continue filming. But it doesn’t mean he is fine with it, and it doesn’t mean it is okay to strip his underwear just because he is not overly angry about it. Being close doesn’t give you the permission to strip each other’s underwear in broadcast.
4. They always try to strip Kwangsoo, but has his underwear been ENTIRELY stripped off of him and hung up on a boom mic for all to see? Has it? It was Gary’s choice to sleep naked, but was it Jongkook’s choice to be stripped off of everything including his underwear?
5. Are his fans not allowed to rant? So we should just laugh it off that our bias’ underwear is being stripped off and left to fend for himself underwater. He couldn’t even fight back, and you guys think this is funny? To see the strong one being so helpless? Is that it?
6. The episode with Jung Woo Sung. It was Haha who pulled KS’s pants, along with his underwear up, not JK. Since when has Kwangsoo’s underwear been stripped off entirely and parade around? When? Tell me the exact episode if you would please. And that bathroom scene. KS was in the bathroom, an enclosed area, with a few staff around. He wasn’t out in the public with all the guests and all of the staff. And did no one complain? I’m pretty sure his fans did.
7. We are his fans, of course we feel the need to protect, because if we don’t, who would? People laughing at his misery? If you guys know just how much Jongkook had to go through in all his 20 years in the entertainment industry, you would understand why most of his fans are so protective of him.
Intentional or not, what done is done and can’t be changed. So perhaps just let us rant in peace even if it’s just for a day or two, and stop finding excuses that this kind of action is acceptable just because they’re one close family. Maybe next time when you go swimming out in the public, have your family member or close friend strip you of everything down to underwear, then filmed it all down and upload it to the net for all to enjoy.
