Swansea vs Man Utd Player Ratings
Manchester United never got out of second gear but still managed to keep their title challenge on track with a 1-0 win over Swansea in the Barclays Premier League.
Swansea
Vorm - 6.5
The Dutchman might have expected to have been tested on more occasions but overall he commanded his box well. He was let down by his defenders for the United goal though.
Rangel - 5
Poor piece of decision making from Rangel. He gave the ball away to Giggs who then in turn set up Hernandez for the only goal of the game. Cost them the game.
Monk - 7
A towering figure at the back although he was guilty of a few late challenges on United players in the midfield.
Williams - 7.5
Excellent display from Williams who was partnering the impressive Monk as well. He frustrated United with his defensive abilities, cutting out attacks and generally just stopping Sir Alex Ferguson's men from playing.
Taylor - 6.5
Did a pretty good job at keeping Nani fairly quiet.
Gower (Off - 78') - 6.5
Did OK but on another day he might have taken one of the chances he was presented with.
Britton - 6.5
Partnered Gower and did a job disrupting United's attacking flow in the center of the park.
Dyer - 7
His pace caused everyone problems and he proved to be one of Swansea's best players out there on the pitch.
Routledge (Off 45') - 6
Hard worker and perhaps he might feel a little hard done by his manager after being subbed at half-time. He put in some terrific crosses but his team-mates did not put them away.
Sinclair - 5.5
What a sitter he missed - it could've changed the course of the game. With the goal gaping in the first half, Sinclair spurned the gift after Routledge had found him in plenty of space to score.
Graham - 6.5
His game suffered from the lack of support.
Subs
Joe Allen (On 45') - 6.5
Provided better balance to the Swansea attack when he came on.
Dobie (On 78') - N/A
Man United
De Gea - 7
The Spaniard kept his focus and his clean sheet against Swansea. Made a good save early in the second half to deny Sinclair and Swansea an equalizer and from there he grew in authority.
Jones - 7
He really looks like a gem of a player when he makes those rampaging runs forward - so unlucky not to score as well when his shot crashed off the post instead of the back of the net.
Ferdinand - 6
Clearly the United man is still coming to terms with his loss of pace and is still finding it tough trying to be the defender he was before all the injuries.
Vidic - 7.5
It's easy to see why he'll be the key to United's defense of their Barclays Premier League title. He's a leader for the team and provides them the confidence they need to be able to hold on to slim leads away from home.
Evra - 6
Rightly got a yellow card for a late challenge on Dyer - and then he was almost instantly replaced by Sir Alex Ferguson who probably wasn't confident the Frenchman would last the 90 minutes against Dyer and Company.
Nani - 6.5
After a fantastic game for Portugal earlier in the week, Nani's performance on Saturday for his club side against Swansea must have been a bit of a letdown for expectant Manchester United fans. He wasn't bad - he just wasn't very good either. To be fair, the tempo of United's play was poor and it had a bearing on the winger's ability to cut Swansea to shreds.
Carrick - 6
Carrick lacked any cutting edge with his passing - too many balls played sideways and not enough forward passes to help United break out of their slow tempo. Perhaps, Sir Alex Ferguson was wary of United being hit by Swansea on the counter but Carrick is experienced enough to know when it is sensible to up the play. He never tried to do it.
Giggs (Off 74') - 7
Giggs was always going to be the central figure in Manchester United's game at Swansea. It was there for everyone to see how determined the Welsh legend was to score on his return to Wales but in the end he had to settle for an assist to Hernandez for the winner. All in all, not bad.
Interestingly, Giggs has assisted three away goals in the Barclays Premier League since December 2009, and all of them have been scored by Hernandez (Opta).
Park - 6.5
Hard working and industrious display. Did the job Sir Alex Ferguson asked of him.
Rooney - 7
There were times when Rooney looked excellent, a striker with unparalleled vision and the ability to pick out the right pass as well. However, you have to admit the Englishman hasn't really been the same player ever since the betting scandal involving certain members of his extended family broke in the media. At Swansea, for instance, he lacked that bit of sharpness in the penalty box which was ever present earlier on in the season.
Hernandez (Off 82') - 7
Hernandez gets credit for scoring the only goal of the game with a typically cool finish after Giggs set him up perfectly. The Mexican striker does tend to get caught offside one too many times in a game but at least he can say he is an efficient striker. Hernandez has scored with 18 of the 33 shots on target he has produced in the Premier League so far (Opta).
Subs
Fabio (On 50') - 6.5
His energy and ability with the ball at his feet made him difficult for Swansea's defenders to get to grips with late in the game.
Valencia (On 82') - N/A
Fletcher (On 74') - 6.5
Calmed things down a bit for United when he came on. United never looked like losing the game and Fletcher made sure the Red Devils didn't throw away three points in the closing stages. |

Rodgers salutes United's tenacity
Swansea 0 Manchester United 1
Most of the Manchester United clichés aren't original. Take the one about Sir Alex Ferguson's men winning when not at their best. Been there, done it, won the title. Over and over. Even that tale's beard has a beard.
Of course, the danger with any old truth is that it can mask the cracks. And there were cracks at the Liberty; just as there were in the two Premier League one-nillers which immediately preceded this latest dicing with a draw and which have succeeded that 6-1 humiliation at home to Manchester City.
On another day, against another team, Swansea would have secured at least a point. But as Brendan Rodgers was quick to note, United aren't just another team. Which to his mind is why they will hound their neighbours to the very finale of any championship race.
"Those guys are genuine winners – it's their mentality to keep going until the end," said Rodgers, after presiding over his first home defeat in the Premier League. "They know what it takes and will just keep chipping away. They knew that this was an important game for them, a difficult game for them, but they have come out the other side with a result. United will continue to chase. City have really come to the party but United will always be there."
Always there, like a greying Welshman who doesn't know when to stop. Rodgers praised Ryan Giggs, who turns 38 next week, for the clinical way he leapt on Angel Rangel's howler to set up Javier Hernandez and, as everyone does, marvelled at his longevity. For Ferguson, however, it was the performance of Michael Carrick which was most worthy of extolment.
"Michael was outstanding," he said. "I thought he did really well, it was a big performance from him. To get Michael back to that form and have the likes of Ryan available gives us good options. We also brought on Fabio [Da Silva], [Darren] Fletcher and [Antonio] Valencia which shows you the strength of the squad ... I can make changes with confidence and that's very important at this stage of the season."
This particular stage of the season could have proved defining. United kicked off the Saturday evening fixture eight points behind City against a team whose cultured passing game is in the habit of capitalising on over-expectancy. "Swansea play off the ball and keep it for long spells," said Carrick. "We knew that before, so it was just a case of staying patient, really. It's about winning games and it's a good sign that we can win games like that. We haven't been at our best but there'll be a point in the season when everything will come easily."
It would have been interesting to see how easily it would have come if Scott Sinclair had converted the simplest of opportunities to equalise. But he didn't, and so Ferguson was able to wax lyrical about a defence which was under a barrage a little under a month ago. "Keeping clean sheets has been an integral part of our success and we have been careless with our defending," said Ferguson, mindful that no Premier League team has kept fewer this season. "We've tightened things up."
So, why aren't they scoring more? "That's not a concern," said Carrick. "We'll score some more goals because of the talent in our team. At this time it's about grafting, sticking together and showing a lot of character." The Carrick mindset of industry first, entertainment second could prove key.
For their part, Swansea knew what was heading in their direction, so the experts duly launched the accusations of the home side being naive in not mixing the pragmatic with the poetic.
"The players are prepared for that [criticism]," said Rodgers with a smirk. "They have been well schooled in that, that's part of the culture in the English league. Our philosophy doesn't change. We will win more games than we lose if we play like that. But I don't like being the heroic loser. It doesn't sit well with me." |

– AFP |

Saya mungkin akan main dengan PSG sekiranya mereka berminat. Tapi yang penting saya tidak akan bermain ke Premier League semula untuk Tottenham atau QPR saya akan pulang ke Premier League cuma untuk Manchester United "
