We won't let you leave on the cheap! Man City demand £50m for wantaway Tevez
5 julai 2011
Manchester City will demand a fee of around £50million for Carlos Tevez to get his wish and leave Eastlands after rocked the striker rocked the club by telling them he has to leave the club for the sake of his family.
City had been fearing their captain would leave this summer, but hoped he would have a change of heart. However, on Monday night he confirmed their worst fears.
Currently playing for Argentina in the Copa America, Tevez, 27, spoke to City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak to explain his decision.
'It is with great regret that I have to inform Manchester City of my wish to leave the club. I would like to state that I have great respect for the club, its supporters and the owner, Sheik Mansoor, who has been nothing other than respectful to me.
'I hope that the people understand the difficult circumstances I have been living under the past 12 months, in regards to my family.
'Living without my children in Manchester has been incredibly challenging for me. Everything I do, I do for my daughters, Katie and Florencia. I need to be closer to them and to spend more time with them.
'I need them to be happy because my life is about them now. I need to be in a place where they can adapt.
'Being captain of Manchester City, qualifying for the Champions League, winning the FA Cup and finishing as top-scorer last season has made me very proud.
'I hope that most of the City fans will understand that I have given them my all on the pitch and that my dedication to the city cause has been 100 per cent on the pitch.
'I hope I have done my bit to help City continue their progress towards their ambition to be champions of England and to advance in the Champions League. I have no doubt that the players and management of City will achieve great success in the future.'
We've got Nasri! Manchester City claim £19m deal for Arsenal rebel
The deal is close to completion and will represent a significant victory for City with both Manchester United and Chelsea also keen on landing the Frenchman.
The fact that City are grabbing Nasri just 24 hours after Carlos Tevez told Sportsmail of his wish to leave the club is also seen as an important moment for a club who will play in the Champions League for the first time this season.
After the signing of Gael Clichy for £7m earlier this week, the Nasri move represents another serious loss for Arsenal to one of their Barclays Premier League rivals.
City are also tracking a frontline replacement for Tevez and expect another transfer powerplay by owner Sheik Mansour within the next week.
City have dug their heels in over Tevez's Eastlands future and insist he will not be allowed to leave for less than £50m.

Stefan Savic has joined Man City for £6 million
Savic, who was being tracked by Arsenal earlier in the summer, follows Gael Clichy in joining City this week ahead of their first Champions League campaign. He moves for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old Montenegro international, who was part of the side which held England to a goalless draw at Wembley earlier this year, played for Partizan in Europe's elite competition last season.
He operates either in the centre or the right of defence.
There had been reports that City would have to wait until after Partizan played FK Skendija in a Champions League qualifier later this month. But if Partizan then qualify for the group stages of the competition the player would be ineligible for City until the latter stages.
As Savic has only six international caps to his name he was not automatically entitled to a work permit, but he has now been approved by the Home Office.
"I was up against Shaun [Wright-Phillips] when he came on as a substitute and he was very tricky," Savic told the club's official website in reference to the draw with England in a Euro 2012 qualifier. "I never imagined that I'd be team-mates with all those City players within a year and I'm so happy to be at this club.
"I can't wait to play alongside them and all the other fantastic players we have here. It is a dream come true and I'm especially looking forward to meeting Edin Dzeko and Aleksandar Kolarov because they both speak my language and come from the Balkans, too.
"Aleks has already phoned me to welcome to City which makes me feel at home already.
"I watch the Premier League all the time and I know it's the place to be so I am just looking forward to helping this club achieve great things. We have an incredible stadium and I've seen how passionate the City fans are many times on TV.
"Montenegro play England later this year so I'm expecting to have some great banter with the England lads. I'm just really happy to be a City player."
Shay Given has completed his transfer to Aston Villa.
The goalkeeper joined City from Newcastle United in February 2009 and immediately established himself as first-choice for manager Mark Hughes with some outstanding performances, including a match-winning display in a penalty shoot-out against Aalborg.
He went on to make 69 appearances for the Blues, but he spent most of last season understudying Joe Hart after Roberto Mancini decided to opt for the England stopper as his number one.
Nevertheless Shay kept himself in tip-top shape after recovering from the dislocated shoulder that ended his 2009/10 campaign, and he played several games in the Carling Cup and Europa League.
Popular with fans, team mates and staff at the club alike, Shay leaves City with our best wishes.
Sergio Aguero is set to fly into Manchester Airport on Wednesday to finalise a transfer that is set to cost Manchester City £38 million.

City will hope to complete the signing of Sergio Aguero over the coming days
According to widespread reports, an impasse in the potential deal was broken when City's Abu Dhabian owner Khaldoon al-Mubarak became personally involved in negotiations with Atletico Madrid.
With Carlos Tevez unsettled to the point of again asking to leave Eastlands - a deal with Corinthians collapsed last week - City require further striking talent. Craig Bellamy, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz are surplus to requirements while Mario Balotelli's weekend fall-out with boss Roberto Mancini perhaps crystallised the need for an additional striker.
Tevez is for sale at £40 million, which would mean that Aguero, believed to be expecting less expensive but hardly low wages, will likely replace his Argentine compatriot if a buyer can be found for last season's captain.
City's previous record signing was Brazilian Robinho, for whom £32 million was paid for a player who never settled at Eastlands. Aguero's pricetag would make him the second-most expensive signing in Premier League history after Fernando Torres' £50 million January move to Chelsea, the club Aguero was once heavily linked to.
Their previous deals this summer saw them land Gael Clichy from Arsenal and Stefan Savic from Partizan Belgrade to replenish a squad already brimming with expensive talent.

'I am a City player' - Sergio Aguero announces he has signed for Manchester City Atletico Madrid striker claims he has signed a deal at Roberto Mancini's side via his Twitter account, as Premier League big boys add another big money name to their squad 27 Jul 2011 20:50:00
The Argentina international was in north west England earlier on Wednesday to iron out the details of a £35 million move from the La Liga club, and has now revealed a deal has been made.
It is believed Aguero has signed a five-year deal with City worth around €225,000 per week, though neither club have so far confirmed any details about the transfer or the player's contract.
"I am a City player already. I am happy to be at this club and in this city. Thank you everyone for the welcome and the reception !!!," Aguero tweeted.
Goal.com understands that the player will cost City €43m [£38m] plus performance-related add-ons, which falls just shy of the €45m release clause attached to his Atletico contract.
Aguero joined Atletico in 2006 after three years in Independiente's senior ranks, and quickly emerged as one of football's most talented strikers.
During his time at the Spanish capital club, he helped Atletico win the 2009-10 Europa League and the following Uefa Super Cup, but such success did not prevent him from airing his wish for a new challenge at the end of the last season.
Real Madrid and Juventus were both thought to be leading the chase for Aguero's signature at first, but as neither side managed to come to an agreement with his employers, Manchester City came in quickly with their chequebook to sign the player.
